liking the build, when your building your own motor and not worried about eating labor it can be fun trying different stuff..

we have had good luck with the AA parts including pistons and heads. Under 6800rpm. I think those new heads with the proper machining are a winner compared to just about anything else=on the budget side. Of course there is better for racing.

Love the experimental motor I'm ready to here that thing fire up. I see you have awakened the grizzly bear that really hates China parts. Even though he is going to run a empi China crank up to 8500 rpm with Ida's. ;)

+TheEZGZ This is a good experiment and I am anxious to see the outcome. You are doing your part by taking your time and inspecting and prepping the parts really well prior to assembly. I have no doubt it will be a super clean assembly. Looking forward to see it running and in use.

Thanks for sharing all this great info. I got my quick shift installed today and I love it. BTW, I love that you're working in the kitchen! I only do that when the wife is out of town. :D

Very helpful ! ! Yes I have noticed the adds AA has in Hot VW mag. Have been wondering about their parts. I follow acouple VW pages on face book - just local to my area. It's seems opinions are like most everything else everywhere. Someone asks about a certain part or brand - several say - works great - then there's always the Joker screaming it's crap. Even thou they have never tried it.I'm not much on the Chinese stuff either. But they are getting better.I'm a tool guy - I like having the right tools for the job. Now how much you spend on that tool - well - depends on how much you use it. I guess what I'm getting at is - buying parts these days is kind of like buying tools. Some stuff at Harbor freight is good - some will get you by - most is garbage. Craftsman & Snap On both have so much made overseas now. So just cause is says Snap On & cost 3 times more - doesn't mean it's the best.

Ez, don't get me wrong, I like the heads but to get the torque you are looking for, you really need to blend the chamber to the seat to get low lift flow. Have a look at the link input in my other post. Thanks for putting the video up. 👍

Great video, and you are correct some people can destroy a tank in a few hours if they want to. GL with the build but I am sure it will turn out great can't wait to see it running.
@afonsomotors36918 жыл бұрын
I was balancing a set of forged pistons from Mahle, and for my surprise, they were within 3g of each other. Then i was balancing a set of AA`S, and for a bigger surprise, they were within 0,2g of each other! That tells not all stuff from China is junk, they can make decent and budget stuff too. I agree with you that some people can ruin a tank in a week. Most of the modified engine problems i hear about is down to the builder, not the parts. Good luck EZGZ, i really like your style. Abel

I have a Manx style buggy like yours, and am planning on doing some engine work. Right now it is a bone stock bottom end and cam, with a 1641 displacement. I want to put new 1641 cylinders and pistons on it, check the bearings etc, and change the cam. From your years of off-road experience, what cam would you recommend. I am not pulling the front wheels, and want low end torque, and about 4000 rpm. I have brand new dual single 34 mm Empi carbs, dual port stock heads, and 1.25 rockers. I really want to build an 1835, but I want to learn a few things before going there. I really enjoy your channel, and older guys with a ton of old aircooled VW experience are getting harder to find. Keep up the videos.

+Kevin Kline I took a chance and put a stock cam in my last 1776 and it turned out so nice I put the stock cam in my 2 liter build with 1.4 scat rockers and it's amazing and smooth. I think your size with stock cam and 1.25 is perfect
