Nice info on the Torque multiplier tool. 👍 You have me confused, with vintage speed vw, or maybe he give you the same info.

Glad you covered this. Although I have a drive plate on my autostick super beetle, I am glad you took the time to show each step clearly. I'm having to fabricate special metal pieces to lock the driveplate to the engine so I can torque it down, wish me luck! Always great watching your channel on how to do stuff, thanks.

i just did mine. I bought the torque converter which made my life so much easier. the tool made it so easy that i had a hard time believing that the gland nut is torqued to 250 ish ftlbs.

Right?!?! I should probably do a dedicated video to this tool, some more people know about it. Honestly it has saved my butt, while trying to get some cranky drum nuts loose.

I've been following your series with the idea of pulling my engine to work on the heater boxes and install the engine tins (that were not on when this beetle was purchased). I was happy to see the blue mount on your engine stand. I am planning on purchasing a stand and use the bench stand mount with it for the space to work on the flywheel if I chose to do that.
@SladesVWBeetle

I bought my engine stand at harbor freight. Since beetle engines are really not that heavy. The only thing I regret is I didn’t buy the four-legged stand.

Honestly I was just being picky, they had a couple of scuffs on them. So I’m kind of strange like that. I have read it in many places, where you always want three. You never want more, or less. I read it in so many manuals that it’s stuck in my brain

Slade, you have been my life saver of my 73 Supper Beatle. However, the engine and I have come to an impasse. I cannot for the life of me get the flywheel gland nut off. I've broken my breaker bar and pipe and can't get it to come loose. I'm really reluctant to put any air tools on it, because I don't want to damage the crank. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

What is the exact purpose of the 3 shims? And what is the danger of reinserting then not in the exact order in which they were removed? What is the typical life span of a rear main seal?

Thank you Dan I truly appreciate that. If they deep well with change it, it would have to be very slight. Not enough to worry about. When you start using extensions, that’s when it changes it a lot more.

Three years ago, you recommended used dielectric grease on the seal. This time you recommended oil. What changed your mind ?
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 5 ай бұрын
Nothing changed my mind, you can use either one. I like the dielectric grease because it doesn’t corrode the rubber which you already know that from me repeating myself. But I need a new tube of the dielectric grease

One last thing to my earlier comment --- since you have a 250 Ft; Lb. torque wrench -- have you ever followed up and double check the Torq multiplier and your standard torque wrench to see if there is a difference in torque between the two?- Rodney
@livinthelife6056

I have been wanting to do the same to verify the torque multiplier . When doing the drums mine seems sloppy and wanted to check the accuracy.
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle Жыл бұрын
Funny you brought that up my friend. I should have put that on video. I didn’t think to, so that will be a good shorter video that will be consistent five minutes maybe. I will tighten up with the torque multiplier, then use my torque wrench with the needle, and then use my clicker torque wrench. And we will compare notes. Good idea Rodney.
