Oh spoke too soon as I got to about 60% download I had an error code tried numerous times and still the same always around 60% download

Thank you for that, just successfully updated my 2017 Golf TSI no problem. 2 Comments though which may help others, there is no need to format the SD card you can just delete the existing maps folder (which is what I did) or even overwrite it although I would delete. You do not need to download 7zip as the built in zip fuctionality in win10/11 works just fine. Hope this helps someone.

I have the Discover Pro with Australian maps on my Golf R and no SD card in the radio unit. When updating to European maps do I need an SD card or is it USB stick?

If you go on the website I list in the video buddy go right to the bottom of the download page you can download the step by step instructions and it will tell you what you need and how to do it :) hope this helps

@@TheVWMechanic_official I have actually downloaded the guide from VW and followed all the steps but the head unit doesn’t recognise the card. I am using a Sandisk SD card. Currently downloading onto a USB stick and will revert if it works.

Won’t reformatting the sd card delete the VW root info on the card?

My grandads skoda sat nav needs to be updated. The message we are getting is that his 32gb SD card is not big enough for the update. I have bought a 64gb card and downloaded the north Europe map and extracted it. The route folder is called north Europe and there are many files in that folder. Can you tell me if I should copy the route folder to the card or just the files within the route folder please?

You need to follow this video and use only the original Volkswagen sd card nothing aftermarket is guaranteed to work

I've downloaded the package but I don't have the maps folder. In the root there's MIB1 and MIB2 and inside there are several other maps. Don't know what to do :( I have the Discover Pro and I've managed to update the maps in 2021 though (with my own SD card, as the update is installed onto the car's storage).

@matevzkrajnik94 I see what’s happened because you’ve got a discover pro it’s a slight different process so what you need to do is at the bottom of the download screen it will say installation guide pdf if you click on that it’s written down step by step

Can you do a video on the RNS 315 nav update? The Internet is like a wild west of ideas. Some say it's a dvd, some say it's a CD, some say it's an SD card. The radio has an SD card slot. Also, if you could point us in the direction of where to get the firmware / nav updates for, I would be very grateful. My car is a Seat but, they used the same head unit in Skoda and VW.

Depending on the unit fitted if there’s no sd card then it’s internal hard drive updated via usb stick
