Hello friends from North Carolina Happy New Year. There is serial number in the front under the storage hood where it is stamp on label. After take out the spare tire and look for the serial number that way it it report to DMV and getting to know the correct year and make. The 1965 Volkswagen Type 1 means that the type one is called bug or beetle. Type 2 is called super beetle because it has dual ports but it depends on custom order. The type 3 is that the generator 40 amp is offset to the right side. Type 2 and type 1 have generator under the carburetor so it is not offset to the right. Type 4 is 1800cc up to 2000cc usually called Microbus. Another thing, the Type 1, 2 and 3 is 1480cc each up to over bored 1600 included bigger cylinder replace original cylinder. Type 5 is Porsche Wolfsburg into the 356 running 4 cylinder where the fan shroud is totally different as it looks like flat 6 cylinders Carrera.

Great job on keeping the trim and resisting the temptation to go with Cal-Look rubber; the car looks more finished that way. OkFixer; another KZbinr who’s a glazer by trade also uses butyl sealant inside the seal between it and the body for extra assurance. Window leaks, (especially rear window) kills parcel trays not to mention window channels. The carpet looks great and the EMPI steering wheel looks amazing. EMPI has stepped up their game recently and are making an effort to provide good quality parts. Getting the rubber emergency brake handle cover under the carpet is a real “biotch” 😂

Do you guys wax your string before installing it in the window grove of the window seals? When my father was alive, I used to help him all the time putting the window on the VW cars. He always waxed his strings..l he told me it was easy for him to slip in the window groves of the seals. And easy installing them into the window frames of the car. I was just wondering on your technique… thank you for posting your videos online of your process of fixing and restoring VW cars. This reminds me a lot of working with my father when I was growing up. Unfortunately, he was sick on sold his VW car. He wasn’t in his right mind. The only thing I have are wonderful memories working in the garage on VW cars…. All of you guys are doing excellent work. I can’t wait for newer videos!

Super fun. I recently restored my '64 steering wheel. 2 year only style with no ring. Filled the cracks with JB weld, good primer and silver Beige paint from WW. Perfect match for the new German turn signal switch. Cheers!

Hey how's it going? Actually there is a really nice cheap alternative they sell it at Lowe's and it's called press and seal. If you do a search for the KZbin channel called classic VW bugs and sound deadening. Chris vallone did a great video on it. Matt used this in his bus and it's been 5 years and it has held up great

boy that would be a tough video to make, but just start digging and tracing down each wire, you can get a wiring diagram and label each one if you want. if they are factory, they are color coded. you can do it!

Stephen, We used some rubbing compound first, then polishing compound. All by hand. Really took out a lot of the scratches and blemishes.
