I think it was calculated. Alastor is all about projecting an image of being powerful. He's always exaggeratedly polite to those he considers his inferiors, because that implies they're not powerful enough to upset him; he's sarcastically polite with his peers because that implies they're not powerful enough to risk his response if they call him out; and he's openly antagonistic of Lucifer because that sends the message he can say "fuck you" to the Lightbringer himself and still get away with it. I love Lucifer's character as well. It's easy to forget from the pilot how it talked about Hell itself being Lucifer's punishment, where he would only see the results of the POOR choices his gift of Free Will produced, and never any of the results of the GOOD choices. It's unsurprising that he feels all the denizens of hell are not worth bothering with, and also why he's so hands-off and isolationist when it comes to "ruling" Hell.

I absolutely ADORE how immediately you picked up on Lucifer and his internal battles.. so many people are too quick to judge him as an "absent father", but he is hurting so badly.. and he is so scared to lose Charlie or watch her get hurt. I really like how, when Lucifer initially starts with his “what did I tell you” speech, we get little moments that show how he’s wrong, that not all sinners are completely irredeemable. The main one that comes to mind was one that didn’t make it into the final reaction, with Sir Pentious pulling Niffty out of the way of falling debris. Already a far cry from his wannabe supervillain days.

The rainbow-colored image in Lucifer's room I believe is supposed to represent the seven rings of Hell, each embodying one of the Seven Deadly Sins. In Helluva Boss (Viv's companion series on KZbin rather than Amazon), we see most of the other rings of Hell, as we follow a team of Hellborn Imps. But since Hazbin Hotel primarily involves Sinners, we are only on the uppermost ring of Hell, the Pride ring, the only ring in which Sinners from the Living World can occupy. I believe this includes Lucifer as well. In most depictions Viv makes of the seven rings of Hell, they're typically each displayed with a different color of the rainbow, and thus making the full rainbow when shown together. This therefore explains the image :3 Also, the reason Lucifer cannot join Charlie in Heaven isn't a matter of fear, he is outright banned from Heaven entirely. So he literally CAN'T go there.

All these details are pretty good but one small correction for 2:39, that is the father of the Von Eldritch family (first name unknown, to me at least), their families were friends and Charlie dated the son Seviathan which can be kinda seen in the top left. There was a picture of both families together and the same picture of Charlie with Seviathan both in the pilot, also the daughter appeared during the song at the news station and Charlie was happy after scaring her.

@@littlelizard1020It's fine as they're not some huge plot point (yet) so a lot of people probably don't know them, not much is known about them and what we do know comes from things like old live streams that may not be viewable anymore so info is from fan to fan. They're from really old lore, so even the few things we do know may change before we meet them, for example they existed before the concept of hellborn but were not Sinners and were called "new money", they also had some connection to Leviathan (and HP Lovecraft) but before the 7 Sins existed so that probably changed but we just don't know.

I have been wanting to see your reaction to this episode the most, and you certainly didn’t disappoint. This is by far my favorite episode of the show with my favorite and second favorite songs, and you all get one chance to guess which is which. Don’t get me wrong the rest of the show is good as are the songs, but honestly nothing can beat this episode in my opinion. I think it’s mostly just how different Lucifer is from how we all imagined. Also I relate to him on a personal level. I have ADHD and high anxiety, so I am a space case that literally can forget things I was just told 5 seconds ago. I also act extra silly and hyper to hide my anxiety and insecurities, and that take that depression is indeed funny, but to me it’s not just the delivery, it’s true. I know people who struggle with depression, and sometimes success can be as simple as ‘I’m getting out of bed today, so take that depression’. I feel many people don’t realize how much the little steps help when fighting depression. So yeah Lucifer is my favorite next to Charlie, and something you might have missed that I don’t think anyone else mentioned is that Lucifer still has his wedding ring on. So have fun theorizing that.

Fun note about the setup of Hell in the Hazbin/Helluvaverse, and how that relates to Lucifer's design/personality: Hell is divided into seven rings, each named for one of the Deadly Sins and ruled by specific beings that have the title of "Sin of _____". Some theories suggest that the Sins were high-ranking angels or archangels who sided with Lucifer during his rebellion, and the original Ars Goetia(you'll meet them if you watch Helluva Boss, set in the same universe)were the other lesser Angels who sided with Lucifer. Lucifer, as the Ruler of Hell, primarily resides within the Pride Ring which sits on top. Lucifer also doubles as the Sin of Pride. Sinners are also largely restricted to the Pride Ring. The Second Ring is Wrath, ruled by Satan, the Sin of Wrath. We haven't seen Satan on-screen yet but he has been described as being incredibly physically strong and muscular. I've seen a lot of art depicting him as being somewhat draconic with a bit of a 'strongman cowboy' aesthetic, which fits into the Wrath Ring's very western sort of design/environment. The Third Ring is Gluttony, ruled by Beelzebub, the Sin of Gluttony. Beelzebub is a sort of sexy Fennec Fox/Bee-looking demon with a lavalamp sort of design around her belly, as well as trailing out of her tail and back of her head. Beelzebub primarily deals with the Hellhound population in Hell, who are mostly used for various menial labor around Hell. We haven't seen too much of Gluttony, but Beelzebub is constantly throwing parties and supplying her predominantly Hellhound guests with endless booze, food and when she can get her hands on them, drugs. It's theorized by some that Beelzebub does this to result in Hellhounds having constant alcohol and drug-fueled sex, continuously supplying Hell with a population of Hellhounds. The Fourth Ring is Greed, ruled by Mammon, the Sin of Greed. It's a lot of industrial and rampant criminal activity, as well as where a lot of larger entertainment things like circuses and concerts are. Mammon is a green/black almost run-down looking fat spider-clown looking figure who's just trying to go full Scrooge McDuck on how much money he wants to make. The Fifth Ring is Lust, ruled by Asmodeus, the Sin of Lust. Asmodeus is a humanoid 'rooster' looking figure with blue and red flames, likely meant to symbolize passion, and Asmodeus' clothes seem like a stage magician aesthetic and has also been shown with one of those two-sided fire sticks that circus performers juggle. The Lust Ring is a city with lots of neon signs, sex stores, nightclubs and other such places of business. The Sixth Ring is Envy, ruled by Leviathan, the Sin of Envy. We have not seen Leviathan OR the Envy ring on-screen yet, but given that Leviathan's name is.... well, Leviathan, I have to imagine the Envy ring is predominantly oceanic with underwater cities. The Seventh Ring is Sloth, ruled by Belphegor, the Sin of Sloth. The one time we've been to Sloth, it was very... cotton candy pink and seems to be where high-end hospitals and pharmaceuticals are, and though we haven't seen Belphegor, we HAVE seen the Baphomets, the goat-demons native to Sloth, and they seem very freakshow-y and deformed. Do you see the theme? Strongman, animal trainer, clown, magician/fire juggler, and freakshow. Add in Lucifer and it's a Circus Troupe, with Lucifer as the Ringleader. That's why he's so presentational, theatrical and over-the-top. He's literally the ringleader of his own circus.

My theories: Alastor didn't sell his soul to Lilith, he sold it while alive in exchange for dark magic to whatever spirit or spirits his veves are meant to conjure. I think the character manifests in his shadow. This might or might not be a sign that Christianity is the only true religion in the Hazbin Boss universe. Mimzy will return in season 2, having sold Alastor out to get revenge on him and/or to win the patronage of a new overlord (or trio of them). Lilith has been replaced by her evil twin Eve. Literally no idea why I think so, I just can't stop thinking it.

Yeah, I definitely think Lilith and Eve are twins and there was a messed up swap in a key period of time, can't wait to get into that discussion in later videos. Hmmm maybe it is some sort of misdirection with that seven year detail that connects both Alastor and Lilith but Alastor's reaction Husk's reveal is a bit telling to me that Lilith is directly involved, given that she's one of the most powerful members of Hell and the main topic of this episode is family reconnection 👀🤔

And... people thought Alastor was better than Val... :P Does have more style, though. Alastor v Lucifer... Alastor feels so out of control, as in pure power, it isn't even comical how much of a difference in physical might there is. A headcannon, I feel is viable, is that the reason Lucifer is so fascinated by ducks, is the last memory of Charlie being happy to see one.

Ah, yes, one of the biggest mysteries of the show. Who has Alastor on a leash? Lilith is the obvious answer thanks to the coinciding 7 year gap of both of them being missing and her very powerful status in Hell, and she's one of the very few known characters that make sense, but she's so obvious that I think it's just as likely that she's a red herring and it ends up somebody completely different.

Como no me enteré de este video? Algo a notar, Lucifer, sin duda, un pesimo padre, despues de este episodio mejora, pero antes, ni se diga. Pero ahora si, Lucifer dio su opinion del infierno, de los pecadores, sin ves, es una opinión igual a la que tiene Adan y en general el cielo, solo porque hay personajes carismáticos no hay que olvidar que es el Infierno, el lugar de tormento para humanos que cometieron actos viles o cualquier otro requisito para no ser aceptado en el cielo, al final Lucifer no apoya porque crea en la redención, solo comenzo a hacer lo que un padre debe hacer, apoyar a sus hijos incluso si no tienes fe en lo que hace. Si hay algo que no me gusta es el rumbo que fue tomando la serie con esto de Infierno bueno, Paraiso malo, Lucirer se interpreta como un soñador al que el cielo desterro y limito sus "alas" pero no olvidemos que es culpa suya que el pecado surgiera en la humanidad, en esta historia puede que no fuera por maldad, pero al final es el responsable. Otro punto, es obvio que quieren al Cielo como enemigos publicos de Charlie, cuando el verdadero villano final muy probablemente sea Alastor.

Another theory of mine: Lilith left Lucifer because, as Charlie says in the first episode, they were dreamers when they fell in love but Lucifer lost his will to dream. He stopped being the man she fell for. Maybe they could have made it work anyway, but I think his depression finished the relationship off. When we meet him, he's refusing to do anything to create his own happiness or pursue the family he loves; instead, he waits for them to reach out to him and make happiness for him. That's a crippling amount of labor to ask of a partner for any kind of long term.
