@R0DisG0D8 жыл бұрын
I hate to use this argument, but the people who say that it is lazy don't get it. It's not as great listening to it now, but actually being in the crowd an singing the song with 70.000 people is just magical. I've yet to experience something to match that feeling in a live concert, even Maidens Fear Of The Dark can't hold up in my opinion.

I so much agree with you RODisGod, i were there on both of them, i hadent even heard about Blind Guardian before i found my self at the concert. I'm not a fan of this group, but I was at a show of theirs with my best friend just the other night. When they wrapped up with this song, it really felt like it wasn't just the band there to play, and the fans there to listen, but that EVERYONE was the show, and the connection between the crowd and the band was just electric.

I saw them last September, and although there wasn't a crowd like this one, our venue was absolutely packed. Getting to be a part of the Bards Song live was one of the best things I've ever experienced. Cant tell you how lucky I feel I was able to be apart of that.

it's fucking magical. in October this year i had sung a cover from The Bard's Song (in the forest), when i started and all the crowd started with me, i lost myself in the moment, the song, the crowd, everything was like in the fantasy books, where the hobbits, dwarves, men and elves come to see the Bard's Song.

@wackentv8 жыл бұрын
Knowing that people like you, in a place where metal isn't as strong as in other parts of the world, share the same spirit is a beautiful thing! Stay metal and do the best you can to push your local scene. Metal from Africa still is a rare thing and rare sounds are getting more and more interesting to the audiences of bigger metal countries. Bands from Egypt and Botswana for example already made it to German festivals. Horns up!

There were a couple mic glitches (during "Fly" and "Time Stands Still") but that doesn't make the entire concert shitty. Every time Blind Guardian played Wacken they killed it... check their 2007 performance! Maybe I'm biased because they're my favorite band, and you evidently don't like them much?!? Or did you mean that you were so far away from the stage and maybe somewhere much off to the side of the speakers that it sounded bad ONLY TO YOU because of that? I swear this is more than just a good song, there is actual magic infused with that melody, in that voice and acoustic guitar. I've never heard a crowd sound so good and clear between so many notes like 3:40 - 4:00. Like the song was masterfully crafted to still sound amazing even with massive crowds. It's hard to describe the genius and beauty of this song without coming off really pretentious or annoying

Truelest comment i read here in this section bro, literally for me this song is both musically and in lyrical terms very representative of how a bard's song in both real life and in a Tolkinian universe composition would sound like. At the beginning he said that they're glad playing at wacken and he'd like to let the audience keep on screaming, but they're running out of time. Further he said that the majority will know which song is coming up and that this song was time and again legendary at wacken and he got the feeling that today will cap it all of. After the bard song he said that this time was more awesome as usual and they had a awesome time at the stage, that they're always liked playing at wacken, but now is the time to move on and then lets get crazy for a last time and so on... And last but not least in the middle of valhalla he started with saying: "looks awesome, sounds awesome..I think marcus worked hard enough and we're ready to bring frederik into the game, therefore you should get a little bit louder. At 11:19 he screams "Impressive", at 11:23 "gimme all" and at 11:55 "Sing us down from the stage".. That's pretty much it, greetz

To be fair, those are their 2 most iconic songs. Valhalla is pretty much the Blind Guardian hymn. If you wanna go to their concert, you better know that song. And as a german metal head in Germany you either can sing 'The Bards Song' in your sleep if you are ever going to a Metal Open Air Festival in Germany (and we have many, from late spring to mid autumn between 1 and 5 each weekend, and that's only the official ones with a minimum number of concert goers). And yeah, it's amazing. I've been at one festival where they headlined and played Valhalla as the last song. The band had long left the stage, the lights turned off and the staff went home and the audience was STILL chanting that refrain.

@@olgahein4384 The most remarkable part to me is that the volume doesn't seem to drop off outside of the chorus. Not every fan is there for this band. Yes, they know the song, but they know the verses and have the confidence to full send it. Very few songs from any group reach that level of saturation. There are plenty of people who don't know the words to their own national anthems, but the whole crowd can sing this. That's special.

What really brings me back to hear this version of the song is the crowd singing all the words! Really emotional to hear that many people singing anything!

Man Wacken really is the Mecca for Metal!!! Acoustic guitars and thousands on thousands of metal-heads singing the song word for word, that is fantastic. If that crowd singing your song doesn't affirm that you made the right career choice then nothing ever will. A scene you rarely see here in the States, real fans really interacting with band and singing a song along with them. Then to switch to a real power/speed song just shows the talent level in this band. I can see how they have lasted since 1984, and Hansi sounded great and better than even especially LIVE. Man to be in that crowd for that performance must of been amazing.To be a resident of Wacken for those 4 days each August must be magical.

The end of the bard's song, where they go down in pitch, always hits me. Feels so unsettling and harrowing but also beautiful.
