I've had a grom for years and it's my daily transport ,50 mile round trip for work 5 days a week and I love it . I sold my larger motorcycles because after riding a grom they are frankly boring. I do live in a very rural part of the UK so speed isn't necessarily a issue. As a daily they are Brilliant they cost next to nothing to run and maintain , everyone should at least try one .

Respect to this guy if it's really his daily. My 390 duke can feel cramped sometimes for my 6' frame, and my work commute is only 35m round trip. The grom is too limited a bike for daily practical transportation in the US. It's really just a bop-around urban toy, the top speed would be a real issue for my location on Long Island. The baby KTM cruises comfortably at 70 mph at only 6k rpm. I guarantee I'd melt the grom engine in a month.

I'm Brazilian and I can't avoid smiling a little seeing you guys like that "Grom" so much. 125cc and 160cc bikes are the standard around here and some people who have them only think about getting rid of them and buying a bigger motorcycle. It's comprehensible, since it's all most of those guys can afford and they want to ascend, but I really wish people understood better the simple and pure pleasure of riding, no matter the bike. Thanks for giving me a taste of that!

@M Bacon Agreed, also if interested in more of a cruiser format the Kawasaki EL125 is also a great bike IMHO for around town riding. Overall remarkably similar specs to the CB125F, but 26" seat height as opposed to 30" and a bit less modern engine (carburetor instead of injected). The Eliminator isn't in current production though, so it'd have to be purchased used, but is dirt cheap usually (about $1k to $1.5k around here).

M Bacon getting a normal sized bike with such a small engine is a huge waste of money. You’ll get bored of it after a month top. I’d never recommend to get anything below 300 for sport bikes. 600-750 for cruisers. The advice of starting small is bullshit, waste of money. I started on a 750, no problems.

The Grom reminds me of the tiny toy (but still motorized) motorcycle that I would ride around the cul-de-sac as a kid. The experience of freedom of travel, especially on 2 wheels, was so novel and fun. It wasn’t about how fast you were going or how quick you could get there... it was about riding a little bike around and exploring. This bike would be worth the buy for me just to remind me of those times! It’s like the adult version of a kids bike, if that makes sense lol (in a good way). There was a random kid that came up to me earlier in the week while I was doing yard work. He was riding a Razor scooter and told me about how the red scooters can go in the dirt but blue ones can’t and how he taped a piece of paper with a smiley face to the front of his scooter so that it could act like a sail and make him faster. I bet he’d love to have that little bike that I had when I was a kid and somehow the innocence and purity of the Grom reminds me of all this... like I would buy one and make sure that it’s red instead of blue so that it could go off road and I could tape a piece of paper with a face on it to the front of the bike to make it go faster.

I love my GROM. Had it for several years already and ride it often. It's a very useful and practical bike for doing errands and shopping (throw rear rack and a trunk on it). You can park it anywhere, which I like, because I can almost always find a nook to stick it in right by the entrance or exit of some building. It's also so light that you can just pick it up and move it if need be...though that would also be an issue for theft. Mine gets about 110 MPG so the 1.5 gallon tank is nearly 200 miles of range. As for mods, I recommend dropping a few teeth on the rear sprocket and getting an upgraded rear shock. These two mods alone will make it a lot better. Adjust the front spring preload to your weight to help cut down on diving under braking. That's really all it needs...and maybe some better tires. My grom can hold 60 MPH on a flat surface and no headwind. With a headwind I can usually hold at least 55 MPH so it's fast enough to use just about anywhere other than insterstate highways.

Grom is simply Great. I have been riding all year long for over 30years (always owing 600cc or larger). But last year I bought a Grom to teach my 16y/o daughter to ride (as my Z800 was not suitable). But I found out what a fun ride it is and now has become my winter commuting ride (so much easier to handle lightly snow covered roads with 100hp). I also found myself going through curves at higher speeds. With big CC bikes, it's too easy to brake hard before entering turns and then rely on the big HP to accelerate out (promotes lazy riding). But with the Grom, with the poor acceleration, you soon learn to enter turns much faster (not to lose speed) in order to exit quicker (promotes better skill riding). And when the wind and grade is just right, can hit 71 mph.

I own a Honda Monkey (same engine and such as the grom, just prettier) and I absolutely love it! I started riding last year after owning a 50cc scooter years ago. I live in a midsized city where the speed limit is 45mph, so it's plenty powerful enough for what I need. While I'm looking at getting something bigger soon, the only reason I want to is for road trips to visit family. I'll never get rid of the Monkey though, either to mess around on or to teach others how to ride. Oh and while I get mocked for wearing full gear on it, I'll remind them that even falling off a motorcycle that is stopped is enough to seriously get injured. It could kill you even, especially without a helmet.

I bought my girlfriend one, loved it so much I bought a second one, well I tried. I ended up with a Benelli 135 because groms are sold out everywhere. If I have an errand to run or time to kill I’ll ride the small bike over my 18 Harley 114 Breakout. Save for the power, it’s just more fun.

There's a group of grom owners in my town. We have a very tight group of core members and then some randos that show up every now and then. We do cruises every Sunday. There is nothing better then doing a goon ride with 10-20 other small bikes. The guy who usually leads is some old dude that's been racing bikes for decades. He can hurt sport bike owners feeling in some parts of town

I use a golf cart, but I know buzzing around on two wheels will be more fun. Lol. Been researching many of the mini-motos. I can't wait to get one. Videos like this get me excited. Thanks for the review.

When the weather is good, I can ride my grom all week long with just $5 gas lol. If you do some mods you can easily cruise with traffic going 60mph plus. If you don't want to do a bbk, the cheapest option would be a DHM stage 3 kit with the high compression piston, cam, intake, exhaust, and ECU flash. I've done a top speed run gps confirmed going 77mph.

I think for getting around a small city or college a 400cc used scooter is better than a new Grom, assume price is the same. Yes, shifting is fun but the 400 scooter can do highways and used as 1st bike is great. Ur right it is hard to have only the grom.

Some of us are older now, like me at 75, and facing physical problems that limit our riding ability. I sold my '94 Yamaha V-Max that I could no longer swing my leg over and March 1st I bought a new '23 Grom. The V-max got 22.5MPG on a good day, but the Grom gets 133MPG with my big butt on it and is good safe fun to ride. My wife, also 75, now has a new Kawasaki KLX 230 and we can take the two little bikes out and ride together again. She just traded in her MT-09 Yamaha. Small and light is GOOD. You don't have to have a big bike to enjoy riding

Yeah, mine maxes out at around 54, like yours RPM stops at around 7K, you won't redline it in 4th, but if you drop a cog in the front, you get better acceleration, and 4th will rev higher, so you will still get the same max speed. I"m also a heavy bastard, 260 pounds.

How fast small bikes flick is kinda funny, had a crf110 at one point and it was funny how that little dirt bike made for 9 year olds would tip right in. Even with its ergonomics and fairly knobby and thin tires you could kiss an apex at was probably like 30 maybe 40 mph. I forget how exactly she was geared but I had changed out the stock 13mm carb with an 18 and it made it quite a bit faster.
