Fantastic reaction. And yes, "Man of Steel" is a masterpiece that continues to hold up to this day. Why it didn't get a direct sequel is all due to the WB Executives. They wanted the film to make one billion dollars right off the bat and said anything less would be a "disappointment". When the movie came out, it grossed about $668 million dollars for its box office run, more than "Batman Begins" and Marvel's "Iron Man" film, but that still wasn't enough for the executives so they decided to forgo a direct sequel despite Zack Snyder, David S. Goyer, and Christopher Nolan all saying otherwise. Instead, they decided throw Batman into the next movie and make "Batman V. Superman: Dawn Justice". The "Ultimate Edition" of that film is great, but it's very clear it was meant to be a direct Man of Steel sequel.

There are many reasons but the gist of it is that Snyder’s movies weren’t making a billion like avengers was and the studio thought that meant they were failures. So they started interfering with the movies and others. Focusing more and forced humor than good stories then they fired Zack snyder and completely abandoned his plan.

Yes, this movie is a masterpiece. Some of the comic book geeks were upset because he killed Zod with the "Superman doesn't kill" thought, but Superman has killed in the comics and he has killed in previous movies, we just didn't see it onscreen per se. I would have loved to have seen a direct sequel to this movie and it definitely deserves it. If you watch Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, make sure you watch the Ultimate Edition, as well, watch Zack Snyder's Justice League

The simple answer is the critics couldn't get past the fact that Superman killed Zod. Then WB put pressure on Zack to not be so dark and to also speed up the process to be more like marvel. Instead of a MOS 2 they did batman v Superman and then JL. Critics again complained it was Too dark and not funny like marvel ( DC should Never be like Marvel.) Zack was filming JL and his daughter died. Out of frustration Zack walked away and was replaced by Josh whedon who did what the studio wanted and changed JL to be more like marvel and it Bombed at the theaters.

Man of Steel has two sequels. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition(2016) Zack Snyder's Justice League(2021) BvS is Man of Steel 2 and ZSJL is Man of Steel 3. They are sequels that directly pick up from one another. Superman is the central figure in the 3 movies and was suppose to be the central character of DCEU who directly and indirectly affected the world, the people, the heroes and villains around him. I won't get into the behind the scenes drama that derailed the original DCEU in this post.

As you said it is a masterpiece 🔥. Due WBs demands Snyder planned an arc of 5 movies with some let’s say spinoffs (individual movies) So Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition is a direct sequel from this one, the next one is Suicide Squad 2016 (this movie has a directors cut that WB haven’t release yet so still waiting for the original version of it #ReleaseTheAyerCut) the next one is Wonder Woman and the last movie made of this universe was Zack Snyders Justice League 2021 aka the Snyder Cut. After those movies every DC EU movie that came out is not part of his plan nor universe so have that in mind if you want to watch more DC movies (they don’t follow the continuity nor the tone). Aquaman 2018 could fit in there but it was confirmed by Snyder that it is not part of the SnyderVerse. Hope you enjoy the rest of them. So far DC (movies) is dead without Snyders vision so let’s hope #RestoreTheSnyderVerse happens 🙌

Its actually very flawed in story and character, superman's inconsistent morality and characters acting like 1di0ts to make the plot work instead of reasonable characters doing what they could. it looks pretty that's for sure and the soundtrack is really good but the film was kinda forgotten outside Snyder fans for a reason, didn't you ask yourself why superman feels bad about ending zod but he destroys the whole kryptonian bloodline without even trying to bargain with zod when it is clear that zod was emotionally attached to it? nah he just blasted it without asking zod *hey right now if you want to help the kryptonian race, maybe help me move this thing from the way* or when he lets the petro truck explode on a building probably letting many people die in the process.
