Fringemas Day 11. Mucha Lucha was a show I watched quite a bit back in the day mixed in with a bunch of other popular shows like Yu-Gi-Oh, Ozzy & Drix and some many others. So today let's take a look at Mucha Lucha, what it was and what happened to it.

Only? For it's time 3 seasons for a kids cartoon that wasn't selling tons in merchandise was the best creators could ask for. We've been spoiled with cartoons that last 4+ seasons but in the early 2000s, it was heartbreaking catching a show you loved but knowing since it isn't super mainstream you probably weren't gonna a second or third season.

One thing to definitely appreciate about the series is the voice cast, being one of the few shows to use a fairly solid mix of American and Canadian voice actors. For the main trio, Rikochet was voiced by Carlos Alazraqui for seasons 1-2 and Jason Marsden for season 3, Buena Girl was voiced by Kimberly Brooks, and the Flea was voiced by Candi Milo. Some of the supporting characters were voiced by Terry Klassen (who I think voiced Rikochet's grandfather) and Tabitha St. Germain (the voice of Penny Plutonium). Collette Sunderman (the show's voice director) must have had a field day directing actors from two different countries.

As someone who is a major wrestling fan, i rewatched this whole show plus the movie with friends and while it isn’t a great show by any means, it was a fun watch and I didn’t feel like I wasted my time watching it. They had references to real wrestlers like Rey Mysterio (the wrestler wasn’t called Rey Mysterio, but it was an obvious reference) and even got the real life Blue Demon Jr to voice himself in the final episode. Also had a lot of wrestling terms that made wrestling fans like me like “ahhh! They mentioned that! They mentioned that”! You can tell it was written by people who love wrestling and that was my favorite part about it.

I liked this show a lot as kid and always tough this was a Mexican made show, I was very surprised when I found out it wasn't the case, it had a lot of references that are very accurate to lucha libre and old luchador cinema. Spanish dub was a lot of fun and added a lot of regionalisms specially The flea voice actor (known to improvise and adding a lot of Mexican slang to his characters dialogs) he was my favorite, this is one of those shows that I feel weird watching in english and always look for the dub whenever I go back to it.

Also, hot take, Kevin Michael Richardson has the best voice for the Joker. I say this mainly because it’s not another impression of Mark Hamill, which actually makes this Joker stand out against the sea of high pitched cackling that’s come to define Joker voices over the last 20+ years. The second wave of both Signature Moves and Mix-A-Lot ended up hitting Mexico, with some English sets of wave 2 of Mix-A-Lot managing to slip into the American market in very limited quantities. I've only seen two and a half sets of the Mix-A-Lots sealed for sale, and two sets loose in my lifetime, and only a very small handful of wave 2 of the signature moves

Similar. I didn't have strong feelings towards it one way or another but if it was on I was watching it. Similarly to Jackie Chan adventures at first, then I really started to love JCA. Still Mucha Lucha wasn't bad.

I remember not caring for this show that much as a kid. I liked the style, but the overall feel wasn't really for me. HOWEVER, when I was about 15 I got super into wrestling as a sport, I ended up watching a lot of lucha libre and that eventually led me to watching this show! I loved it a lot when I watched it then, but I think it more so had to do with my huge interest for pro wrestling at the time. So, I guess you can say I do have some weird fond memories of this show.

I hope you'll do a "Wait, remember....?" On The Secret Show. That was my favorite Nicktoon growing up, and I think it's pretty obscure.

I had the most vestigial memories of this buried away, but the moment I saw The Flea I could hear his voice. And vague recollections of the girl turning into earth moving equipment. Aaah, the things that make our childhood.

Buena girl was honesty my favourite of the main trio. Her design was just so cool overall I thought, mainly with her legs parts showing. Flea was also really cool too. The voice actor for that character also did bat in almost naked animals as well.
