the collar is a safety to prevent the rod from coming out of the steering gear in case the bottom bolt comes loose. It needs to be up top. If the bottom comes loose where you have the collar will not stop it from coming out of the steering gearbox.
@joshuabushard7432

That's what I was thinking, up at that little boot would make it stay the same length, steering gear is mounted to frame, so dimensions aren't supposed to change
@johnperkins630
@johnperkins630 Жыл бұрын
@@joshuabushard7432 Even though the steering gear is mounted on a frame there is a certain amount of body flex on any vehicle. As you can see the depth of the rod and design is different on the original steering rod. Newer does not always mean better. Sometimes its just a cheaper design to accommodate older systems and to make profit. That is the reason for the additional stop. To prevent them from losing in a lawsuit. Improper installation that leads to death is not their fault. It becomes the fault of the installer. Big companies only care about the bottom line. PERIOD. If they can make it cheap and make a good profit with liability then its a win for them. The collar makes the installer liable.

Before you paint the box/headache rack for the ol dodges' flatbed. You should rework the headache rack so it's at least as tall as the top of the cab, that way you can haul longer materials, like lumber for a house or garage, and not worry about caving in the cabtop....just my .02

We have a tracked machine and it’s nice for picking stuff up and not worrying about flat tires, but going across hard summer pack July august ground it sucks, I remember the first year I worked for my fencing boss and I picked up about 18 line hedge post with the wheeled bobcat machine and it picked it up but the tires squated and then we got the new cat 259 and it’s on tracks and I do not think we will go back to wheels ever again for a main machine

#GoodYear use to sell flotation tires for the old new holland L778 in the late 70’s and 80’s they were smoother than the industrial tires every one uses now. They looked kind of like the LSW’s on the 747. Also the big ditch witch tire machines use them. Thanks for sharing y’all’s videos.

Hey Nick, morgan here cause I ain't there. My name frequently gets traded for the common nickname of More'gonzo, Na, don't ask why when the obvious is most easily figured out. Our old iron is still keeping many rigs going as our pockets say new to us is good enough. Ah before I ramble too long, my comment is about skidsteers.. the Case "Manticore" as always.. spelled wrong and just hoping you have heard of the new beast... if memory serves me at all, its a 550 in size with a quick change on its front so the bucket and pallet forks can go on but hold it... a dozer blade, six way blade with the backblade ripper attachment. Plus it has a real ripper on its backside as to a toy in sense. The ripper on the back is no joke. I wish to say now that this machine is a game changer in skidsteers. If and when those peas, beans, corn, grain or cow turds ever turn into money for you, then add it to a wishlist that is longer than the new to this rig sideboards and headache rack. I think that if only the headache rack remains after some time goes by, the back of the cab will say thanks. Prices on fuel make it hard to even think a diesel engine is the sweet swap for a pickup that never really needs that extra torque a diesel is known for. Who knows just how many years go by before you get a newer machine like the new beast mentioned as Bill Gates takes over running our country eliminating our election process. Its how I feel its going.... in any case, Joe ain't running things as again I bump the political sides of a conversation not supposedly to be mentioned. Guys, as I age or ferment along in years..... I see our youngest generation be hornswoggled into thinking.. thinking might just be a "too strong a use of that part of our vocabulary." Longevity has been added to each generation of us as time does go by. In my earliest years remember that around thirty five to seven was old age and commonly known to be when many men passed on. Now we are nudging a part that says to me.... maybe a hundred will be the new old age limit to drawing SSI. If your a poor but hard working man, it might at least feel this way. The floors although just a camera angles for inspections on this end seem quite solid like the many nice rigs just parked along the Alcan highway system in canada where no salt was used on the road system. No place to send any metal to meant the old rigs when farmer/traveler said new is now in order and their old rig parked in the weeds sat for years with a seat torn and a few rodents make it home, are now being discovered for a new old toys for young folks to discover and make road worthy again. Just when found in the last few years was a ultra rare 1942 Hudson pickup truck with some really innovated for the times. It was setting in a barn that had given up due to snow, rain, time in general took out its ability to remain standing... plus a tree also laying on the roof of this barn helped to see it collapse onto this old truck but tin worms hadn't removed its own ability to remain in general good health. That particular pickup would be a even trade for this new skidsteer I referred to. I guess this is a good spot to close out my storyline or a book would fall into line here... hoping a few more years remain for Coby and that all Welkers remain healthy, your voice is troubling as our new strains of bugs... Errr, don't get me restarted/LOL, wishing ya all good times and health

That collar does a 2 fold job, prevents the boot from sliding down and keeps the shaft in the steering box. So, as another commenter said, it needs to be up top. Certain skid steer brands do ride nice and smooth, others, not so much as you found out. My personal preference is Bobcat, they're just a solid machine.

I don't know Nick. When you are working dirt, tracks are king. They say Once you go Cat, you won't go back. Seriously, the Cat Multi Terrain is the smoothest machine that I have run. The new Bobcat or John Deere are ok. It makes a difference what tracks you use also. Nice video.

Tracks are only good in limited situations, provided you have the right tracks. With the wrong tracks they are worthless in the snow, at least you can chain up bald tires and get some grip. Little TLC and the old truck will be good as new, hopefully the new truck will be back up and running soon. They make a module that disables the active cylinder management thing or whatever Chevy calls it, so it always just runs on all eight cylinders.

Surprised the tracked skid steer took a long ride, the newer one sounds like a much better fit. The metal yard just keeps producing great items, all just waiting to be picked up. My first thought on the truck deck was you might want some sort of siding on it.
