I can see EGR's filling and faultering even more than normal with this new rule, that and higher fuel consumption. It will not save lives - if anything from the build up of pollution being kept in urban zones for longer - long term this will lead to more illnesses and maybe even more deaths

At 20mph we are going to spend longer driving anywhere, which mean even more ''emissions'', also, we will need to drop down a gear which will probably mean more revs, which will mean more ''emissions''. 20mph in certain parts of towns and villages is fine when you have narrow streets and parked cars, but in other areas where you have clear visibility and wide roads it is idiotic.

Top tip, if you were heading for Llandudno stick to A55 and then A470! Note goverment thinks it will re-coup costs in lower NHS expenses and costs incurred in accidents, emergency sevices, disability costs etc. At least Flintshire has exempted more roads than Wrexham and Denbighshire.

@@WilliamMurfitt Because our road is now 20mph .. traffic sound is half, less dust is kicked up, the road seems less hurried and less stressed, and of course, it's much safer. It used to be 30mph which was bad enough but drivers used to do 40-60mph instead. The 20mph limit has had a psychological effect and reduced the speed 20-25 .. that is why I am happy about the change.

Youd better get your wife or you used to walking in front with a red flag, shouting danger horseless carriage coming. Here in South Australia we have fifty kmh as default, some areas are forty kmh, school and road works zones and passing an emergency vehicle or school bus with lights flashing are twenty five kmh. We're three km from shops and go through three fifty k one sixty k a twenty five k if kids are around and to come home add a forty k.

My point was that if you were looking to overtake a cyclist who was doing 15mph (for example) you only have 5mph left to overtake with. Before it would have been 15 mph. It now takes 3 times longer to get past once overtaking commences. Hence MORE dangerous as you spend more time in the opposite lane for the overtake.

We have had 20 MPH or 30 KM in new zealand towns where shops and schools are. And only 50 KM or 30 MPH in suburbs. And between 100 KM or 60 MPH to 110 KM or 70MPH on motorways for over 3 years now. Surely if the road says 30mph you can do 30 mph or why would it say 30 mph. That makes no sense. If anything that comes under the trade description act to falsely advertise something is against the law, and if the road sign says 30 but the road is actually 20 that would be false advertising at the base minimum. If on the other hand they brought in 20 and took away the 30 signs then ok drive around in first gear. But remember the highway code is not all law, it is a code of conduct, and if the law says you must obey a road sign and the only road sign says 30 maximum then you are entitled to go 30 mph in law, the code of conduct may suggest to you to go 20 but you are entitled to go 30. They need to change the signs or any challenge in court would see the driver win I believe.

But some signs are mandatory others are warnings, you can't have confusing signs and then fine someone that is not right, and where there has been such situations the courts have to sort it out. Make sure your dash cam is on and submit it as evidence should you ever get stopped.,

Well Scotland had 5 billion pounds for new rail and northern Ireland got 2 billion and England got 130 billion for Hs2 and Wales got absolutely nothing big fat zero because hs2 is a England and Wales project even though its nowhere near Wales.
