WALKS IN SUSSEX at DIDLING & TREYFORD (SOUTH DOWNS NATIONAL PARK) (4K)

In this episode of my series “ Walks in Sussex” I take a walk along the South Downs between the pretty hamlets of Didling & Treyford. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan - it is our 150th “video walk” together on this channel.
I start my 5 mile circular walk at St Andrews church which is located at the Southern end of Didling, nestled on the Northern side of the South Downs. After exploring the church, I head South with an ascent of the Downs themselves.
It is not long before I reach the top and join up with the South Downs Way, heading Westwards to Monkton Wood and then the Devils Jumps - a series of 6 Bronze Age barrows.
Passing through the top of Philliswood Down, I enjoy stunning views both North & South from the top the Downs before dropping down to the hamlet of Treyford.
I check out the ruins of St Marys church and the location of where St peters church (known as “the Cathedral on the Downs”) used to be … it was demolished in the 1950's.
My homeward leg takes me along footpaths from Treyford back to Didling.

That looked like a pretty strenuous walk in places! I loved the musical accompaniment and the high jinks on the Devil's jumps which seemed to energise Logan. The house info was good too - wonder if it's still purple today!!

It was fairly steep going up by luckily not too far! It was certainly worth the effort for the views for sure.

Loved this one as we love walking this area, although lack of parking restricts access. Didling church is very special. More Sussex videos please!

Hello Dave. If you’ve made 150 episodes, I reckon you’ve walked about 1000 miles in that time. I guess they were all with Logan by your side. Very pretty area. I’m surprised that church had to be demolished after such a short life span, especially when you consider the vast number of similar buildings erected in the 12th century and still going strong. That was quite a journey from your home too. Logan is obviously a good traveler.
