This is another video in my series “ Walks in Sussex” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I visit the village of Stedham which is located 2 miles to the West of Midhurst in West Sussex.
My five mile circular route actually starts at a free car park on Iping Common, just to the South of Stedham on the Southern side of the A272 Midhurst to Petersfield Road. I initially follow part of the Serpent Trail footpath Westwards across Iping Common before heading North across Trotton Common - with a small detour to explore the Black Pond.
I cross the A272 and head towards the hamlet of Chithurst however along the way I take a minor detour across afield back to Trotton to visit St Georges church with it's magnificent wall paintings & brasses.
Back on my route, I cross the River Rother at Chithurst bridge and check out another church - the tiny Saxon church of St Marys. My walk then takes me Eastwards along the Northern bank of the river to the hamlet of Iping where I get to explore another church!
Crossing the River Rother again, I walk along the Southern bank to Stedham bridge. The Rother is close to flooding following recent heavy rain but I am able to cross the bridge and continue along the Northern bank to Stedham Mill. The ford there is only just passable with the river level so high and I continue past the Mill house to Stedham church - St James - (my 4th & final church of the walk!).
My homeward leg takes me through Stedham village to the Hamilton Arms pub for some light refreshment before I head back to my car at the Iping Common car park.

Thanks Kevin. I tend to not film so many walks in the Winter as my camera (Gopro) isn't so good in low light. I therefore film a lot in the Summer & build up a schedule of videos to take me through the Winter. It also gives me a bit of time off to research for new walks. Having said that, I do have a few "Winter" walks planned as some walks do have a different outlook to them in a different season. Thanks for watching.

What a glorious walk, Dave, Sussex is so rich and varied in its geography, flora and fauna and architecture. I used to do brass rubbing as a young chap but never got to this one. Truly amazing. Thanks

Loving you walks! Your camera does an excellent job in dark places! I really like that you have so many public footpaths. Not so in most of the US. We are making a push with "Rails to Trails"--but they are pretty spread out.

Thank you. Yes, we are lucky over here to have so many accessible footpaths & byways.

What a really fabulous walk Dave. I remember parts of it when you showed Richard Vobes a walk in that area some years ago now. I enjoyed that at the time as I had been trying to plan a walk there myself... But I never quite made it. I will definitely follow your route if I'm back that way.. The river scenes looked amazing and what Fab sunshine.. Well done for showing us this. David.

I know all the churches very well, Iping is very impressive, a rather big church for the size of the village. I find it quite imposing standing in the base of the tower looking up the inside of the tower!

Very interesting walk. That river in flood was amazing. I have no idea how you both got over that torrent without getting wet feet.

Dave. I have seen and viewed many of your walks in the New Forest and West Sussex.. Those that I have seen from within a church have been excellent so O am wondered why you always lament that the images wii not come out clear.. The last church you visited on your stedhan, trotton route you spoilt bu swithing on a torch.. SO DO NOT WORRY THAT WE WILL NOT BE ABLE to see the nteriior without the lights MOST TIMES THEY ARE BETTER SEEN WITHOUT LIGHT THAN WITH

Thanks for the feedback David. The issue that I have with low light (especially in buildings) is not so much that the image cannot be seen but the image stabilization on the Gopro just cannot cope when there is any movement. The image flickers and becomes very "grainy". Often the quality is so poor, I have to "cover up" the problem by putting up a still photo instead - that way the viewer isn't aware of the problem. Gopro cameras are known for being poor in low light due to the small size of the sensor although I understand that the next model (Gopro 11 due out in a few months) will have a larger sensor & thus should perform better. It is such a shame because in good light, the picture quality & stabilization (especially when viewed in 4K) is normally very good .I will , of course, take your feedback on board although as I have already filmed a fair few video walks that are already scheduled in for the next few months, you might still hear of few more of my laments in the short term! Thanks for watching. Dave.
