I went to school for interior design, and quit after one semester. I have learned more about real scenarios that I face in my own home now than from school. I am blown away by your knowledge and ability to teach. These videos are so well done, so concise but packed full….I am blown away. I lack confidence, and you have given me much needed direction to express myself in my home. I can’t thank you enough. Every time I watch one of your videos I am so grateful you answered a question that stopped me from moving forward. I want my home to be a beautiful expression of my creativity. I want to feel the beauty. How can I possibly thank you for inspiring me?! It’s an enormous deal, especially when you doubt yourself. Also… I know, but it’s from the heart… thank you for covering different styles. I see so many designers just throw up Homegoods…. And it’s alllll the same. I loved your bathroom stenciling with that deep orange!!! My heart was like yeeeeeaaasss!!! Give me that color! You keep it up. You’re are making the world a more beautiful place, and I truly sincerely thank you. ❤️

Hi Julie 😊. I look forward to your videos. Such good info and bright energy. I was spoiled with an interior designer/artist for a dad as I was growing up, especially during the early ‘70’s, the heyday of Barbara D’Arcy of Bloomingdales. She was the one who loved “Purple and Orange. Together.” Still cracks me up. After taking down Schumacher/Waverly/Bloomcraft fabrics from the display room walls where Dad worked, he’d cart it home, and run it through the washer, make things. I had some wild jackets and bellbottoms! I’m in a rental, unable to paint or wallpaper, but I’m using starch to apply cloth to accent areas with mirror panels on them. Hot water will dissolve it when I leave. I’m a lifelong lover of textiles, loomed/knitted/embroidered, and I’m loving the new aged-looking rugs. One day, I’ll design an area with a rug applied to a wall, some open shelving, architectural elements...for visual warmth and acoustic tuning of the space. So much inspiration in videos, I’ve finally created my ideal site design/house plan. Over the years, it’s been distilled to include only what floats my boat, that essential living laboratory of the art/science/business and Spirit of HOME. Thanks for your input to my completed envisioning. ✨💕🌱🎶

@@JulieKhuu Great, I’ll look for that video. I had a house for thirty years and find apartment living restful in some ways and stressful in others. I’ve had no luck yet finding images of designer cloth from the 60’s and ‘70’s, when I made all my own clothes and worked like crazy with my dad on home projects. I lost my slides of the large old home. My bedroom had 10’ ceilings covered in Jacobean Poppies fabric to match the Nettlecreek bedspreads, drapes, headboards we upholstered. White enamel ceiling&woodwork and a mirrored wall (Yikes! Good thing I read late and got up at five). Other fabrics I particularly loved were Emperor’s Garden (I can still see that amazing red and Chinese-graphic clouds) I made a jacket from, and one that designer Paul Kettering used in some mansion to recall a raja’s tent. My share of that became a back-zip bellbottom bodysuit with Nehru collar and diamond cutout just below. I’d love to find a coffee table book with images from those days. Gave away all my Architectural Digest and House and Garden/House Beautiful issues from previous decades, along with my much-loved Barbara D’Arcy book. Not ‘minimalist’ since downsizing, but Essentialist. Heaven will include creative play with amazing people and materials/processes. Dad came long ago in a dream (passed in ‘79) to give me a lesson in using “lamp blue”, his new favorite thing (He had enthusiastic phases in life, like painting things Chinese Red and turning everything over to get shepherd casters.) I awoke, shaking my head and laughing, as it hadn’t occurred to him that we only have lamp black here on 🌎. 😏. He must be having a ball on the other side.

@@JulieKhuu I have question about this. I always see powder rooms as the fun/electic design choices. I then notice designers advise against doing this in your main bathroom and not sure why. I live in a very small home with 2 small bathrooms. Even the “main” one I use is same as for guests. I want that “wow” factor in there when guests come in as well as when I’m laying in tub or getting ready to go out. So why do designers advise against making it exciting or visually impactful?

Electrical work so the wallpaper can continue on from the sconce location. Installer will simply remove the fixture, but they still need to wrap the paper around the opening

Hi Julie, thanks for this vid. You seem to cover everything I have a questions about. Have you ever had to sound proof a shared wall room with wall panels?
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
I installed upholstered foam panels in the media room for this purpose. It was right next to a bedroom. They make 3D wall tiles for acoustics as well. You can paint them to match your vibe or leave them white Kirbie

I used wallpaper "barocco style" in my entrance all, as I have a nice "art déco" display cabinet ; I've used only in two walls, the others are painted. I don't know if it's correct what I've done, but I like it..; and I've done it all by myself

Can you do a video on house layout Feng Shui ie what rooms should be where The room or space that you should enter after the entry: Dinning, kitchen or lounge ? Which rooms/space or area are better for orientation NESW and what are the best different lighting requirements for each for the Feng Shui? If open plan vs different rooms for each use is better Feng shui? Multiple bedrooms together or spaced around the house? How to add and where to put a kids toy play area and study or creative messy space? Best place for bathroom in home? Thanks I just love your videos so enjoyably to watch.

Have you seen the 3D wallpaper? It really jumps out in your face... Great for an accent wall ,home office or nursery.. My favorite is grass cloth, impressive and understated..I first noticed it in professional office buildings. .You always exceed my expectations. Peace health and blessings from Atlanta. 🏠🏠

Yes, I use grasscloth often Debra! 😍 It’s also currently installed on my guest bathroom ceiling which I DIY’d myself. A very proud moment for this working Mom 😄

Hi Julie my residence has concrete ceilings from living in a high-rise.. I upgraded my wrist has to have a luxury modern appeal by installing recessed lighting due to the concrete ceilings my solution installing recessed lighting was to build wall long length rectangular decking suspended ceiling 1 foot wide from the wall and then have the recessed lighting within the suspended ceiling rectangular wall length decking... I am very pleased with my results.. I wanted to know what did you think of my solution to have recessed lighting when concrete ceiling initially prevented it... what do you think of my solution of recessed lighting built within suspended decking😆😎😎

Thank you for finally doing this video! 2 questions: - I love nature murals and English florals. Do your recommended sites deliver to India? - can wallpapers be put in distempered walls or the walls should be properly painted before putting wallpaper?
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
Walls must be primed before papering Dechen. Check Etsy! Linked in the description- They ship worldwide 👍🏻

Hi Julie, big fan. I have a dilemma and hoping you could help resolve. I have a dark color patter wallpaper in my bedroom on the 2 opposite walls to my bed (wall behind headframe and the one right in front). We still feel something is not working. Do you think i should get the wallpaper on the third wall (that doesnt have a window). Or should i remove the wallpaper from the wall opposite to whete the bed headframe is? Highly appreciate your help. Lalita
@JulieKhuu2 жыл бұрын
Either wallpaper every single wall or none at all Lalita- those are my personal design rules. The way you have it sounds like a mistake or like you ran out of paper, even though I understand that was not your intent. That’s how it visually appears and that’s why it feels off.

We have an early-mid 19th century family home that has wallpaper in nearly every room, including the closets - over lath and plaster walls. It was always my understanding that wallpaper "covered a multitude of sins", such as defects in the plaster or walls. We're planning a major renovation of the home, and most of the wallpaper is old and peeling, needing upgrades. I'm having a lot of fun gathering wallpaper samples, some of which are period styles, such as William Morris. My concern is having a smooth transition from room to room without it looking like a strange museum or having a "blue room" or a "Chinoiserie" room, etc.
@JulieKhuu2 жыл бұрын
I love William Morris’ strawberry thief pattern- so moody yet chic in blue! 😍 I’m a huge advocate of each room having their own distinct style, so I say do what you love. You will make the home feel more cohesive by injecting your personal style within. I’m not a fan of matchy-matchy by any means. I like each room to evoke a different feeling

@@JulieKhuu Strawberry Thief is a favorite, and I love that the wallpapers come in different colors and shades of the patterns. Some of the metallics are sooo gorgeous! Just received a sample of Willow Bough in Ivory/Pearl that is stunning. Taking your advice to heart, and am now thinking that instead of wallpaper in the bathrooms (I was thinking of a wide-striped Laura Ashley for the new upstairs bath), I could replicate that fairly easily with paint, which would have more staying power. Thanks for the reply and tips! Feeling more confident about the renovation now, and I've started a blog to memorialize our reno journey.

Hi Julie , Another great video!! thank you. I am working with a new construction and would love to use wallpaper in Some rooms in the house. Just a bit scared as wallpapers are huge commitment. Even though I am not a person who likes glits and glamour and prefer simple things, I see my self attracted to subtle metallic wallpaper design / look. Would love your help in determining which wallpapers to use and on which particular walls . What would be the best way to connect with you.
