When I built my house, I insulated and backfilled against the foundation walls before starting on framing. It is more convenient and safer to just step off the foundation. I put footing drainage pipes inside and outside the footings. The pipes were run to daylight so that no pumps are needed to keep the basement dry. The 4" ADS slotted pipe has worked well for 30 years now. Surround the pipe with 6" of 3/8" stone all the way around. Be sure to have a way to flush it out. Build temporary stairs to access the basement. To protect the wall sections as you move them, nail on temporary diagonals. Use duplex headed nails for easy removal. Sometimes the thunderbolt threads will get buggered when driving them in. Put the washer and nut on the thunderbolt before driving it in. You should but temporary braces at the quarter points of the knee walls so that a wind or someone can't just knock them down. You two are doing great but you can't afford an accident. You have to plan ahead and do things the safest way possible. I found that I also saved time in the long run by making the work area safer. My father was a house builder. He taught me to always order 10% more than you estimate. As an Army Engineer Officer, I was taught to order 25% extra. When you're a distance from your supplies it saves time to have extras. It's great that you are able to get started this early. Good Luck, Rick

I concur with all you said, Rick. Especially ordering excess material. Most places that deal in building materials expect to have some materials returned. Just keep it clean and dry. This, from a 55 year construction veteran.

Note to the children: You may or may not understand the full context of my comment but mom and dad will explain it to you. Realize that your parents are not the typical set of parents. You are blessed to have been born into this family with a mom and dad who truly understand the VALUE of life. The unwrapped gifts they bring to you, and for you, are worth their weight in gold. Learn from them. Engage with them. Ask questions. Study them. Recognize the love they have for you and the love they have for each other. Get involved in as much as they will allow. Learn as many skills as you can for YOUR futures so that you, too, can pass those skills and traditions on to your children. Yes, you are young and children should be children. But a child who can recognize value is a child who will walk a solid path.

They've really worked and planned for years how they're going to manage all of the build, while paying for it all as they go! They're so smart! Lol. I sound like a crazy fan or something. Lol. But it's true. If more people built, bought, or just handled their finances like these two, there'd be no home loans. There wouldn't be a need for them! 😊. Their tiny house turned out great! So glad to finally see some sort of isolator between concrete and wood. No matter where you are on the build, always isolate concrete and wood from each other. After seeing your tiny hone build i asked my brother, who works in construction as an educated builder, about concrete and other material. He replied by saying that they always isolate concrete from everything else. When i asked him, he was right in the middle of a process of renovating an old concrete house and he sent me a picture of how they even isolated concrete roofbeams from wooden beams by clading the concrete in plastic whenever the two materials where in contact with each other.

Productivity Tip: Hey Jeremy, you will be doing a whole lot of repeated cuts for your wall studs. To save time and increase accuracy, you can set your Dewalt mitre saw stand stop to the desired length, butt your 2x4s or 2x6s up to the stop and make the cuts perfectly precise and quickly without using the tape measure to mark each cut . Not sure what lengths your lumber comes in Idaho (I dont live in the US), but if all your lumber is purchased at the desired length ( eg. 8ft or 10ft) this tip won't be applicable, but I'm sure you'll find it helpful in the future for making repeated cuts.

You two are beautiful!! Kids are too!! Lots of love to you all and well wishes on this venture, I'll be sure to continue to watch!! One thing tho, just a question. My Gramma passed away and I've been thinking of a tattoo idea to remember her by. We're Native and turtle clan from Southern Ontario Canada and I was thinking of a turtle in an arrow head type of tattoo, then I remembered seeing a glimpse of Jeremy's back when he unfortunately had his back decide to dump on him, I've been there many times! Just wondering if I could, possibly, see his full back? To get an idea of what I want. If it's possible? Thank you for your time! Much love 💯❤️

I remember him as a police officer on calls and see him on tv in background. I even seen him in my neighborhood on calls. Sad to see him leave but totally understand and jealous he and his family got to leave for my home state of idaho if I'm correct that's ware their place is. How lucky he and his wife are finding each other and living the dream. I hope they going to insulate with closed cell foam it's better than fiberglass. Love to know the story how you guys met. You guys are great team. I hope you can finnish the house before the costs go up to mutch. In Vancouver the prices of plywood and lumber have skyrocketed 1/2 inch plywood is upto 50 bucks a sheet. Just don't use chip board for exterior walls or roof it turns into black rot after a few years. I love the views of the mountains and the peace and quite. Your kids are lucky too their learning by your good example. God bless your family and you celebrate many decades in your home

These videos encouraged me to walk right up to my decaying wooden pool fence and start tearing it down. I will have to get some help with the less rotted posts, but I had been giving the fence far more "power" than it deserved. I didn't really know what to do with it other than pay the really big bucks to a fencing company - but now I can see that if I still need a secondary pool fence, I'll do a cattle panel fence. I'm also going to remove two sharp pine tree bushes around the pool entrance, since this is my house now and not the previous owner's. I'm 60 yrs old, and I still sometimes have to talk myself into the fact that I'm in charge! Thanks for your great videos, and the overall can-do attitude that you bring along with them!

Wow, you two work like a well oiled machine! Keep the humor through out this journey and your marriage will come out stronger on the other end! We have a very old house and it was a nightmare to take it back to the studs and floor joists. But, we did it. Feels great to be finished with the front of the house, still the back end to go. That is a journey for this summer. The worst fight we have had in 38 years of wedded bliss was over hanging dry wall!! We survived and laugh about it today. Good luck and God bless!
