Yeah that brake defused the gas big-time. After you said that I had to go back and look for that myself and wow that bush to the side really got blasted itself. That was funny. Never have shot a fifty bmg but I know it would be exciting. That was definitely the icing on the cake for this video.

These targets are actually pretty good. I've put a few thousand pistol rounds into a couple of them & they still look fine. Even my hot rodded 5.7x28 @2320 FPS didn't dimple it, nor did the 10mm Liberty Civil Defense that was going well over 2k FPS. I don't have a long enough range to hit it with rifles other than rimfire stuff, but it handles the really fast .17 HMR with no problems.

Well now that was a interesting video and a bunch of interesting calibers. The 50 BMG was impressive, but the 45-70 I thought was really awesome and the steel really swung hard for sure. AR 500 steel and 3/8 thickness is awesome and it doesn't matter where it comes from. On my range that is all I shoot it's 3/8 AR 500 steel because you can't hurt it and I like the way it sounds.

Your target presented no resistance because it could move and allow the bullets to pass under deflecting much of their energy. Had you set up the target against a solid backing the rifle .45s probably would have punched holes and the .50 would certainly have penetrated.

@@WHOTEEWHO I have one. My dad bought back it in the mid 70's and I got it from him in 91 I think it was. It was made in 1952. When I 1st bought ammo for it, it was like $10 for 20 rnds. The last box (20 rnds) was close to $80 so it's a little cost prohibitive to shoot these days.

The word from the bush is these plates are manufactured by Birchwood Casey. They are the folks who make gun bluing and a few other liquid products. The B.C. products also come in 1/2" steel as well. Every once in a while, you may catch these plates in various shapes, thicknesses, and styles on sale from Midway, Bass Pro, and other outdoor companies..... At 2700 fps, the 450 bushmaster is really comparable to the 45-70. I personally think it’s just a bolt action version of a 45-70. With those options now, the real question is do you want a bolt or a lever action?
@Wayne-hs6gm
@Wayne-hs6gm 3 жыл бұрын
@@poorfatman5317 I did not realize that. But that doesn’t really affect my statement. The 450 is a new cartridge designed for ar-15 platform, that became popular as a bolt action. There has been very little research into custom load data compared to the 45-70. And at the end of the day, it’s the ft-lbs of energy that matter. And the 450 is able to compete with it in the lighter weight bullets ( 200gr). The 450 is essentially the poor mans big game cartridge.

But after seeing the video I'm guessing because the plate was hanging and able to move some of the bullet energy went into bouncing that plate around. Don't take this comment wrong, have enjoyed your videos. Just want to send you some physics info to explain holes in the AR500 plate of one round/rifle vs another. Center of mass vs vectors of the chains holding up the plate. High momentum rounds (mass x velocity) are more likely to penetrate the plate above center of the plate. Any round in the center of the plate will likely be absorbed (50 cal). Rounds below center of plate are more likely to flip it. Rounds on crossing axis from chains and center of plate may also produce a hole in the plate (torque). Just a bit of knowledge, send the bull lots and keep banging.

Used my Remington model 700 243 with a 90 grain Sierra green tip and blew a hole 3/4 of the way through it..22 250 went through it..the guy who brought it over asked me to stop shooting his steel..so we went back to 9mm and 45 carbine..

That was really entertaining, I totally agree I didn't think 3/8 ar500 from Walmart would stand the test but it did. Got to say nice grouping with the heritage

Just saw this video, wish I'd saw it when new because I've been debating on that target but didn't think it would handle anything over 22 caliber

No holes in the steel. Like your video a lot. Sorry for your luck needing to clean a dozen guns. Love how the old warhorse .45-70 made the steel fly 2nd only to the .50 BMG.

You need to watch the slow moe guys video's of bullets hitting steel plates. The bullets flatten and spray out on the same plane as the plate. I know that they say it's not safe to shoot very close and it's for safety but the guys I shoot with shoot about anything you can think of from 10 yards to about 25 yards and I've never seen anything bounce back. The only time I've had a bullet bounce back is when I shot a inflated tire with a 22 and it hit the ground between my feet and went singing on behind me.
