How is the PPQ better than the M&P? First off I've owned the Pro 5" M&P, the 4.25" FS and the Shield. Bought all of them new, the PPQ, has every single one outclassed in ergonomics, it's perfect fit for my hand, style, fit and finish is better and shooting, while all are good shooters the PPQ'S trigger is what sets it apart from any M&P listed above, although the take up is quite a bit, the pull it's self is light and has a a crisp break and short reset. Since writing my original statement I've purchased a G21, because I wanted a good .45 acp, the Glock trigger and ergos leave much to be desired however it's a good weapon in the same way that a civic is a good car. It does all the things you want but is great at nothing.

+Carlos Finch Im not a big fan of Glock handguns. And no I dont even own one. Iv held them and they didnt feel to bad. But I never hear or see anything good with them unless it is a Gen 3 or older. I love my M&P but that is just a opinion. I dont own a Ppq but plan to buy a Pk380 for my wife. I think Smith&Wesson makes the PPQ though...Maybe they make a different model for Walther. +Guns, Gear & On Target Training, LLC So in a case where all are fairly equal then price would be the deciding factor. I think the PPQ would be the most expensive, followed by the Glock 19, and then the M&P. But with that being said the trigger and sights on the PPQ are pretty solid and wouldn't need replaced by aftermarket kits. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I say this all the time. I'm a PPQ owner and a Walther fanboy, but if the SHTF and all I had was a Glock, I'd still be happy. We're at a point in time where the differences between these guns comes down to ergos, and barely a blonde one's difference in all the other characteristics. I definitely encourage people to give the PPQ a try, run a box through one at the range and see how they like it, but I always tell a person to buy what they shoot best unless there is a compelling reason (like cost or added safety features) to buy something different. Just as long as they shoot it pretty well, and can improve their skills with some trigger time.

Great video. I keep saying those that haven't tried the trigger on a Walther PPQ are really missing out on something almost too good to be true in the gun world, what a fantastic trigger and trigger reset. I've also added a Glock Gen3 trigger bar to my Glock 19 Gen4. Getting rid of the "bump" on the trigger bar that's on the Gen4 and not on the Gen3 made a big difference in the Glock 19's trigger pull. Keep up the great work with your videos.

Just came across this video because I'm in the market for another life time partner. Like what I saw you did keep it even except that the Glock had a light on it helping it by adding weight to the front keeping its recoil down. The PPQ and the M&P did great on their own without the extra weight. I like the way the PPQ feels in my hand. Make it a match up made to keep me out of heaven and in Hell a little Longer. Edited for spelling, have to watch out for the spelling trolls.

Thanks for watching and commenting. Good point on the light, I should have removed that. The PPQ is a great pistol. Over the past couple of years I taught several hundred students at a variety of skill levels. In NH and RI the primary guns folks are shooting in our classes are Glocks, M&Ps, and Sig P320s. Only one guy in an intermediate defensive handgun class, shot the PPQ. It had no issues at all and we shot about 650 rounds that day. Top trainers like Vickers, Proctor, Travis Haley and Costa seem to mostly shoot the Glock 19. Since the PPQ is such a nice pistol I have been surprised that I don't see it used more. Aside from its high bore axis the trigger is exceptional and it has good ergonomics. I do have the say the Gen 5 G19 and the M&P 2.0 Compact would be at the top of my list if I were getting additional pistols. Check back and let me know how the PPQ does for you. All the best and stay safe.

+Guns, Gear & On Target Training, LLC Still would like your input, I think we can agree everyone's opinion is subjective but none the less important for the most part. I do think at the price point this platform comes at, it would not be too much to ask for metal night sights as a standard. My only hang-up about this weapon as shipped. Again I love the video, short and sweet with out slant. My only input is the weapons should be compared in the stock configuration from the manufacturer. As in no light for your Glock, albeit a sexy light :) Keep up the outstanding work sir.

Honestly, it comes down to shooting the guns. I picked the PPQ but honestly would have settled for my 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th favorite and not lost a moment of sleep. I got lucky, there is a nearby gun range that stocks dozens of modern pistols as rentals, so I tested about 10 or 12, then retested my top 6, then my top 3. 2nd in line for me was Sig 320, 3rd was VP9, but the Walther PPQ won the day. Trigger, ergos (love the slide release feel, and that it's ambi), and looks put it over the others. And I'm fairly new to handguns, but honestly I shot every single one I tested very very well - to the point that I shot my Top 6's just about identically. In fact, by the time it got to my Top 3 testing, I was factoring in how well my Wife shot them, because if I'm not home and the door busts in, she's the one behind the sights. PPQ won the day, but the margins were slim.

The "best" is very subjective and based upon ones tendencies to like a particular feature of one manufacturer over another. If I were given any of these pistols and told I could only use that from here on out then I would develop familiarity and expertise on that particular firearm. That being said, I have practiced with all three of these and I gravitated toward the Walther PPQ as the one I would choose, if given a choice. I absolutely love the trigger and I think the ergos are better than the other two. But I would be content with any of them.

Modern manufacturing has made all these pistols great and each is unique in their own way. Now a days, it's just a matter of personal preference as to which pistol is better. I'm bias, and I just have to go with German or Austrian made pistols, such as, the Walther PPQ M2 5" or the new Steyr L9 A-1. IMO. ;)

These three are also my favorite striker-fired polymer handguns in 9mm! All three have their + & - 's and it just comes down to personal preference. For me it is the PPQ. I own a M&P9c and a Walther PPQ M2 Navy. I have a few friends that own Glock 17's and 19's and love them. M&P's do have the worst trigger out of the three, Glocks have the worst ergos, and the PPQ... well... they don't have the track record that Glocks have, yet (Give it ten more years). That is just my own personal preference. Also there is the FNX-9 and CZ-SP01 which are Awesome! Then there is the new HK VP9 which is almost as nice as the PPQ. XDM's are very accurate but still don't come close in my opinion. Sorry XDM guys I tried to like them but think they look uglier than a Glock on a Monday morning with a mean hangover.

Got a G19, Gen 4, which I love. Also have the Walther PPQ M2, which I REALLY love. I carry both, but tend to gravitate more to the Walther, even though it's a little snappier with the recoil. I also find I'm more accurate with the Walther, but that may be due to the XS sights on my G19 (going to change them to Ameriglo i-dot soon). I love the way the Walther feels in my hand, plus I think it just looks cooler too. Both triggers are unmodified. PPQ has the better trigger, but the G19's is pretty darn good too. Both have been 100% in reliability. Haven't had any experience shooting the M&P (except the Shield, which is a fantastic single stack and has a better trigger than the other M&Ps, but still not as good as Glock's). I do like the looks and the ergos of the M&P line though, but the beavertail (love handle poker) would be a deal breaker when it comes to carry. With you 100% on the XD's looks. Huge fan of CZ's, but I'd likely never carry one (beavertail thing again, plus don't like CC carrying hammer-fired guns...but do love shooting them). Not a big HK guy (think they're over-priced and have mediocre at best triggers). Although the VP9 is really intriguing and more reasonably priced.

One thing I noticed, with the "bad ergos" of glocks: Because it is boxier, my hand will just find the exact same grip easier than on the PPQ (or the HKP90 for example that also has the glove-like grip.) Ie if I'd have to point it blindfolded it would be a lot better with the glock. It might only cost a split second but still something to think about.

Any of those are great guns, as is XDm's. PPQ's and XDm's triggers are very good, but in the end it comes down to developing a skill level on what one chooses. Almost purchased an m&p 9mm but waited. I picked up an m&p shield 9mm instead and it's nice. I just happened to trade for a used 19 gen 3. There had to have been only one round through it. When I got home I looked up the production date and it was 2006..... A safe queen???? Anyway, I drive tacs with that thing. I love my 19 gen 3. Next is a CZ P01 9mm and then maybe the PPQ. The m&p just isn't for me at this point. Didn't really like the feel for my hands. Maybe I will try again someday. Good video. Nice shooting.

I have a quick question sir, is it a must or a huge job to have the polymer guide rod replaced for a metal/stainless steel rod on the Walther PPQ? I just picked up one, it's the Walther PPQ M2 with the standard mag release which doesn't matter to me though I prefer it over the the M1 style and I can safely say having shot pistols/rifles all my life that the PPQ certainly is high quality. I was going to get a used HK VP9, but it didn't feel right to me, and the PPQ is very similar in fact I believe HK copied the PPQ after it had much success.
@andrewcz8871
@andrewcz8871 5 жыл бұрын
I'm about to buy a stainless steel guide rod. Not hard at all to replace - I just did my Ruger SR22, where the polymer rod was actually causing smokestacks and other feed failures, even with CCI copper-plated bullets. Replacing the polymer rod on the Walther isn't a MUST - I firmly believe that as-built my PPQ M2 is perfectly combat/defense/action ready for 50K rounds or more. Not a single failure yet. But the steel rod will add some muzzle weight, and would probably last longer over time (although either rod could outlive me if the gun remains cared for). As for replacing it, mine comes with the spring so it's just a direct swap - take down the gun, remove poly rod/spring, insert steel rod/spring, reassemble. But believe me when I say I won't be throwing out the poly one. Just tuck it away, and probably even reinstall it every other range trip to ensure it's still working.

Maybe the real question is "what is it best for?" I could be wrong, but that light Walther trigger felt to me like it would be great for target shooting but I'd be nervous using it in a high tension, adrenaline dumping situation. Maybe too light. Good point, though. At a certain point all the bad ones have been weeded out and they will all do the job. Now it's a matter of what you are comfortable with. Much as I'd like to try the FNH FNS 9, I've already gone down the Smith M&P road so I don't want to get tangled up with a bunch of different magazines again. Recent improvements to the M&P (trigger and barrel) have really made them pretty usable for most people anyway. Do you think this new financial battle within the Glock family will hurt the company? Note to Gaston Glock: Don't be hiding money from the wife if you're going to dump her and the kids and piss her off!

Jake Lonergan Agree with you! Define the mission and application and then find the gun that works for you. The trigger on the PPQ is not a liability unless the user doesn't train and or lacks trigger discipline. Frankly if the user can't keep their finer off the trigger until they've mad a decision to shoot they need training....

I had double taps on the PPQ trigger in training. I know, I need to practice more, but it doesn't change the fact. Still I like the trigger a lot more than the MP's, but this could be only a personal preference.

Jake Lonergan Yup. I've gone down the M&P road as well and I'm looking to add an M&P 9c to the stable soon. I like training with one platform and becoming very proficient with it. zsiga09 FYI, in case you ever get into an actual shoot out, "double tap" is no longer the preferred terminology. "Controlled pair" infers that you intentionally fired two shots, whereas "double tap" can be ambiguous.

The thing with the PPQ trigger is that the takeup is long for a reason. Don't approach the break point until the decision is made - keep it in the soft takeup zone. The clean, crisp break is designed so that the user doesn't have to do it consciously - riding the sear is bad, you should just be able to smoothly "pull to pew" then reset.

I have gone round and round with the M&P, I absolutley cannot stand the trigger on it. I traded out of it and got the pro series and while it was better it was still not to my liking. I considered doing the apex trigger but considering what I paid for the gun then the additonal $160 bucks it was gonna cost for the tigger upgrade I decided to get rid of it. I went with the glock 19 which I am very happy with and IMO has a very good out of the box trigger. I am considering also getting the PPQ. Great review.

Have you tried the M&P pro ported pistol? I have a glock 30 converted to 40 super and the bulge or swell at the bottom of the grip I really do not like. I put a lot of work into it, kkm compensated 40 super barrel, 23 lb Titanium dual captured spring, new titanium firing pin and increased spring weight and truglo tfo sights. the total bill over 1k. please don't get me wrong, I'm accurate with it but still disturbed by the swell. on a note, I was raised on 1911's and run a Kimber master carry Custom 8+1 and you CAN NOT beat a cocked and locked trigger in a Gun of this class. I can shoot bulls eyes90% of the time but it's way to heavy to carry the full day in a cross draw. I would seriously consider moving to a hot 9mm for carry but what I'm looking for carry gun meets bulls eye gun. my thoughts, the new Walther ppq m2 Q5 target. Would you mind giving a nickels worth of info? Thank you in advance.

Stock sights on PPQ and M&P.. and the G19 had aftermarket sights and a light attachment which adds weight to the muzzle.. come on man if you're going to do a comparison video, you have to go full stock.. that's what people are buying.. I could also be wrong but that Glock looked like it had aftermarket guide rod as well. I'm more of a Sig320 fan, but I'd go with PPQ out of the box..If you have to spend extra money to get same results of something stock, I don't know how that is a comparison..

The "best" is determined by the user based on his ability to hit the target with speed and accuracy. Of the Glock and the M&P are they both stock pistols? I noticed what looked like a steel guide rod on the Glock. I've notice that with the Apex DCAEK the trigger break on the M&P is considerably further back than my G19. No the M&P and Glock are not stock. Both have improved sights. Done moderate trigger work on the M&P with the Apex RAM, and the Glock has the Travis Haley "skimmer" trigger. The Glock has a steel recoil guide assembly. All have made good guns "great" in my opinion.

FN makes a good product. I have shot the FNS and think the triggers are ok. Subjectively, I recall it had a long take up, was somewhat gritty and reset wasn't anything special. I also did a review of the FNX -45 (see the review kzbin.info/www/bejne/joq3kGpvpLZ3qLM ). This gun had a wonderful SA trigger pull but I wasn't a fan of the double action pull. However, the most important aspect is the operator and the proficiency of that person with their gun of choice. If the FNS is your choice, then rock on! Thanks for commenting and sharing.

Guns and Gear & On Target Training, LLC Wow, Maybe they are hit and miss when it comes to the trigger. We didn't end up with the FNS since the store only had the .40 and the wife and I wanted a 9mm. So we now have 2 Glocks , a 17 and 19. Both are Gen 4 to fit our small hands . But then we both added the Pachmayr Grip Glove which of course made the grip larger. LOL
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC 11 жыл бұрын
Solar4Rich Interesting.. When you have a chance try the M&P 9mm with the small back-strap. This gun (with the small back-strap) fits my small hands better than anything else. I actually switched from Glocks three years ago because the fit was amazingly better...I do a fair amount of instruction and many of my students pick up my guns and fall in love with the fit when using the small back-strap. Gen 4 G19 is an all time favorite. I would encourage your wife to shoot the gun without the grip glove for 500 rounds. I am not a fan of grip gloves especially on fighting handguns. Alternatively you can do a great drip enhancement with cut up bike tire inner-tubes. However, Again, whatever works for you is the best choice. see my video kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpq9oIlvf8eHftU check out .48 seconds in for a picture.

All three are excellent platforms. I've shot 100,000 rounds through Glocks. No issues with malfunction with factory or factory re-manufactured ammo. Same with the M&P Pistols which I have run more than 55,000 rounds though. I dont own a PPQ but have when I have shot them bit...they have been 100%. Note: Most issues with malfunctions are related to faulty magazines, springs or followers. The PPQ has the best out of the box trigger. Yet it also has the highest bore axis which seems to yield a tiny bit more muzzle flip. Bottom line, all are reliable and will do the job.

Guns and Gear & On Target Training, LLC Hey, very much appreciated! I find it ironic that I happened to stumble upon a review of the exact 3 pistols that I am looking at, though I have been looking a bit more at the P99 rather than the PPQ simply because the P99 has the DA/SA trigger with decock. I really appreciate the valuable input!

Skivvies Thanks for your comments. The P99 is certainly a good option. Having worked many years now as an instructor, I have found striker fired gun easier for most people to master. As the trigger is consistent on each shot. Remember, the safety on any gun is your trigger finger and brain! (Finger off the trigger unless you're sights are aligned on the target and you've made a conscious decision to press a shot).
