I love the show, Ms. Catherine Rampell is always a good interview. Thank you.

General Electric CEO from 198O to 2OOO wasJack Welch (1935--2O2O). He was asked how to assess his legacy at GE.He said to judge his legacy as the Market Value of GE when he's been gone 2O years, the same length as his CEO tenure. It increased from 6 to 45O billion from 198O to 2OOO. Twenty years after his retirement (2O2O)the market value of was 2OO billion, a 55% decrease in market value.

because of a lot of poor business choices, what does this have to do with the video?

@@alexanderdeburdegala4609 EVERYTHING !!! Jack Welch is the father of Vulture Capitalism! He led the stampede to downsize and liquidate. Ownership for short term gains to shareholders triumphed over stability of workforce and sustainable quality of products. Huge executive compensation packages & Golden Parachutes, validated by McKinsey consultants, were prioritized over operating personnel who could afford to keep their jobs. Turnover is now preferred to experience. Employees are ridden hard and put up wet. Civilized working conditions are touted as a luxury the gold toilet set won't support. Funneling cash away from most of us has been normalized for decades now. Presidential administrations have only moderate influence on this trend unless they're willing to make waves with the finger pointers who squeal "socialism"

Grandma is working, too, because she can't afford to "retire" since she was paid CRAP for decades. It's almost as though they want us to stay poor.

My newspaper carries Catherine Rampell's editorials about once a week. I tend to agree with her on most things. If you see her in the opinion section, read it. She's good.

Voting Blue. But I have a question after spending the last year in Europe: Why are food prices so much lower in Europe? Dramatically lower.

Grocery mergers left us perilously close to monopolies. I'm lucky to have Iowa's Hy -Vee, some KC local chains (one of which is consistently high), and Germany's vertical monopoly Aldi competing for me! Many regions are not so lucky, caught between Albertson's and Kroger (Dillon's, Fred Meyer), who have been trying to merge for years.

Another aspect of Hilter's generals that might be a disincentive is they lost the war. Partially due to Hilter's meddling, but a bunch of yes men would listen to all of Trump's suggestions.

The classical economists beginning with Adam Smith identified the economic rents (unearned income) extracted by feudal lords as the problem preventing a free market that the government should solve. The neoliberal (Austrian, Libertarian, Chicago School Monetarist) counter-enlightenment led by the super wealthy was to not acknowledge any such problem, as the marketing front for their banks (FIRE, finance, insurance and real estate) whose vocation is rent seeking and who directly employ the modern neo feudal government.

_The Wealth of Nations_ , 1776, was preceded by Smith's _The Theory of Moral Sentiments_ , 1759. Thom Hartmann says it gave us the "for the greater good" concepts in our Constitution. Disciples of his _Wealth of Nations_ and _Invisible Hand_ decline to acknowledge this!

I cancelled my subscription to it. BUT it has some very fine journalists. I don’t blame them. I blame their cowardly craven owner. I’m also exploring alternatives to Amazon.

@@thermodynamics458 Bless you for remembering to vote with dollars in what free market we have left! I Googled a price check on something obscure, and was surprised to see WalMart and Target the lesser evils next to Amazon and Temu.

It seems an exaggeration to call it a debate, when one party travels with one foot in fantasyland. Does it take anything more than outrageous gall, ultimate audacity, to express knowing something of a deity? Faith feeds followers with ludicrous nonsense: Numbers 12:3 Now Moses was a very humble man, more so than any man on the face of the earth. Defending Judaism & Christianity is easy when you can find prophets & cherubin in your Yellow Pages.

Replacements are a good Minnesota band. Prince doesn't seem Al's style. Al is just sharing what is in his heart, I'm afraid. Perhaps he could license an additional Kottke passage?
