Glad to see you tackling this repair! A word of advice: if you’re buying a replacement evaporator fan motor, especially from sites like Amazon or eBay, be careful with aftermarket parts. Cheaper options often don’t hold up, causing your fridge to break down again sooner. To avoid future headaches, we recommend using original, high-quality parts. You can find this evaporator fan motor and other OEM Samsung parts at partsdr.com/part/da81-06013a-fan-motor-assembly. They may cost a bit more, but they’re worth it for the quality and reliability. Good luck with your repair and let us know if you have any questions or need further assistance! Learn how to test if your fan motor is bad here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmrJfGOYg5xlg6M

I can't thank you enough for this video. My final results: The fan was good although plugged with ice. People who have an ohmmeter can check across the fan's RED and BLACK lead for 1 megohm or so. (Note : Continuity testers won't work for this because the fan is NOT a short circuit) . The same test, however, can be performed for the heater strip. Look for something around 1.2k-ohms. These values are just ballpark but a bad fan or open circuit heater strip will read close to infinity ohms. The fan rotation test can also be tested with +12VDC, which I also performed, but I'll leave that to be explained later and I don't recommend that test unless one knows exactly what they are doing. The evaporator was so iced up that, initially, the cover would not come off due to the fact that the ice adhered to the back side of the styrofoam. It took well over 8 hours for enough of this ice to melt inside this insulated space (styrofoam) before the ice released the cover enough to be removed. After that, it was a matter of clearing the remaining ice and reassembling. All good. Now I can get another period of use before we finally get rid of this PITA refrigerator which, sadly, has many design deficiencies. :-( Our home's interior humidity is maintained in a low range of 35-50% RH (pretty dry for Florida). This video, while outstanding help, is a testimony to one of many design flaws and deficiencies. I have never owned a refrigerator that required a disassembly and access to the evaporator section or a defrost fan, much less one that cannot even be dissembled due to internal ice buildup. Perhaps I just happened to get a lemon. I would have preferred a peach. Thank you sir for this terrific video.

Update: I wasted too much time and effort on this “fix/repair”. Shortly after this heroic effort, Samsung let me down again with another failure unrelated to this one. I just disconnected this refrig and moved it to street side pickup. I’m sure the refrig works far better as lawn furniture that I’m sure it became after China melted it down for. Boat anchors would have been an even better application.

I have a Samsung rr82fdrs I that has trouble getting down to set temperature. After plugging it in it goes down, but after a while it starts to go up again. The compressor is running but not always. I have changed the two temp inside sensors and the inverter board. I have measured the heater to 470 ohms witch it should be and the thermal fuse is at 0 ohms. So there should not be any problem. The compressor is quite cooled to the touch but i have heard that compressor should be? All fans are spinning inside and by the compressor. Could the inside fan be spinning slower than it should? I cant figure out what is wrong.

Tip, the fan can be bad but still pass resistance test, turn and even spin when power is applied but in my case was weak. I ordered the new fan, and hooked the old and the new up to a power supply at 12v and it was obvious the old fan was barely producing any air flow, the new ones was 10x more. I went ahead then and completed the installation and my fridge section went from barely keeping 54 degrees F to operating normally all the way down to 34 degrees F.

RELATED: does the motor ever "fail" by turning more slowly than it ought, or does it only fail by completely stopping? I'm wondering if replacing the evaporator motor might improve cooling even though it appears to be turning after being thawed from its own personal Ice Age event.

Good advice! We will add to your advice a little bit more. If the evaporator coil behind the evaporator cover is frozen you may need to unplug the refrigerator and leave the doors open for a while to let it thaw out. You do not want to use any heat from a blow dryer or heat gun as it can melt the plastic.

I have a fan noise that stops when I open the door on my Samsung (same model as in video). Is this noise the compressor fan or the ice maker fan? If I shut off the ice maker, and the noise doesn’t occur, I assume that will rule out the ice maker fan? The ice maker fan replace ment looks a bit more difficult and risky.
@PartsDr

The evaporator fan motor in the refrigerator compartment and the fan motor in the ice maker compartment are separate. Shutting off the ice maker will most likely not turn off the fan motor. You will most likely need to disassemble the refrigerator by removing the evaporator cover to see which motor is causing the noise. Another great video. Once the Samsung refrigerator cooling coils freeze over, the evaporator fan quickly fails. This is the second time I replaced this fan. Such a poor refrigerator design from Samsung. I was hoping that you would include a way to prevent the cooling coils in the refrigerator from freezing over. I suspect moisture from outside air is causing this to happen, so will using RTV adhesive sealant to seal the holes of the cooling coils reduce the occurrence of this happening? What about using aluminum foil tape around the initial part of the cooling coils, to keep moisture from building up there? It seems like it might fix it, but this is all my own thought process, and perhaps overkill. Thanks for this video, looking forward to hearing answers to the questions posted. I will not buy another Samsung refrigerator or appliance after all the issues with this one. Buy American!
@PartsDr
@PartsDr 4 жыл бұрын
The cooling coil freezing over is usually caused by a failed automatic defrost component. There are four defrost components on most Samsung refrigerators - defrost heater, defrost thermistor, bi-metal defrost thermostat, and main control board. If one of these parts fails the refrigerator will not defrost the evaporator coil properly.
@jgyaritz
@jgyaritz 4 жыл бұрын
@@PartsDr Possibly. I've read a few reviews though that say they've replaced the whole defrost heating element, bi-metal defrost thermostat, and thermistor, but the problem persists. I may replace it too, but I don't think that will work. What is the part number for those defrost elements? When I run the self diagnostic check (freezer and fridge button pushed simultaneously for 8 seconds) no errors reported though. I don't think the main control board is bad. Just a bad design for a refrigerator by Samsung.

@PartsDr
@PartsDr 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, if you are getting ice around the fan it could be caused by the refrigerator not going through the automatic defrost cycle properly. This could be caused by a bad defrost sensor, bad defrost heater (which usually had the bi-metal thermostat attached to it), or bad main control board. This is assuming the door gaskets are all sealing properly and you aren't getting excess outside air leaking into the refrigerator. Here are a few other videos that you may find helpful: How to test defrost sensor: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGbFqJaqmsp9hK8 How to replace defrost sensor: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5DEdYZtbMmMbtE How to test defrost heater: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2jLqqadntWtprM

@@PartsDr I was hoping you could answer a question for me regarding my Samsung refrigerator. My refrigerator wasn't working due to ice buildup behind the evaporator panel in the condenser area. Ice had encased the fan and it wasn't working. I thawed all the ice and cleared out the condensation drain tubes and put it back together. Even though I set the refrigerator for 37 degrees, it is showing 42 degrees after about 14 hours. Do you think that because the fan was encased in ice, that it likely burnt the motor out and is no longer working? I am trying to figure out why the refrigerator is not cooling to 37 degrees.
@PartsDr
@PartsDr 5 жыл бұрын
@@akb7523 You should normally allow 24 hours for the refrigerator cool to the set temperature. If the temp is not back to normal after 24 hours, we would then look at a few different things. First, try to determine why the fan was encased in ice. This could be because the refrigerator is not going through the automatic defrost cycle properly (ex: bad defrost temp sensor, defrost heater, control board). If the coil under the fan is full of ice/frost then this will block the airflow and cause the fan to not work properly. You will need to address the problem and then allow the refrigerator to fully thaw out before re-assembling.

I just followed this very accurate video to remove the condensation cover on my Samsung model RF323TEDBSR/AA. Once I de-frosted/de-iced the cover and got the condensation cover off, I had to remove the fan housing/bracket from the back of the condensation cover to reveal the fan part number on the hidden side of the fan hub. It does not match the number in this video subject line. The PartsDr website shows this recommended part number fits various versions of the ...BSR/AA model, but each of the PartsDr models has a dash number that I haven't figured out how to identify on my fridge. NOTE: getting the cover off went pretty quickly and almost-exactly as the video showed, but the cover was frozen in place. With the fridge unplugged and empty I put a small space heater pointing at the back of the box. It took about four hours for it to thaw to the point I could gently pull out the cover and attached styrofoam. After that, there was an amount of ice left to deal with. And I found the drain at the bottom of the coils was really iced over. I heated water in a measuring cup and repeatedly poured it onto the drain hole. I used paper towels to wick the water out, and repeated six or seven times with very hot microwaved water, being careful to not let the tab that extends into the drain hole from tearing the paper towel and leaving it in the drain. It eventually gurgled down and the drain was then clear. My fan was make a good deal of noise. But, I put it back together using the original fan and it is working now and not making any noise.

FROZEN DRAIN HOLE and COVER FROZEN in place - I just followed this very accurate video to remove the condensation cover on my Samsung model RF323TEDBSR/AA - double French doors and freezer on the bottom. The condensation cover did not come off as easily as in the video, as it was frozen in place and needed to be de-frosted/de-iced before it could be gently removed. I think if I'd forced it the cover might have cracked and the styrofoam might have busted. With the fridge unplugged, empty, and the doors open, I put a small space heater/fan pointing at the inside-back of the box. The heater is not overly hot, and I made sure the plastic in the fridge did not get too hot to touch. It took about four hours for it to thaw to the point I could gently pull out the cover with the attached styrofoam. After that, there was an amount of ice left to deal with. I carefully chipped some of it out onto towels which also picked up a lot of water. There was about an inch of ice at the bottom of the coils, and the drain at the bottom of the coils was really iced over down into the drain hole - maybe about three inches. I used very hot microwaved water in a measuring cup and repeatedly poured it onto the drain hole and let it sit in the bottom of the foiled drain catch. I used paper towels to wick the water out as it cooled, and repeated this six or seven times being careful to not let the paper towel be torn by the tab that extends into the drain hole to prevent leaving any stuck in the drain. The drain was clear of ice when water eventually gurgled down through the drain. It goes into an evaporation tray that I didn't try to access from the back of the fridge. There wasn't any water on the floor under the fridge, so I just left it to be evaporated from the tray - fingers crossed. My fan was making a good deal of noise before all this, and I thought I might have to replace it. I didn't test it, but it spun freely when apart. The fan has maybe a mm of axial play on the hub which may be by design. There weren't any other apparent problems, so I figured the noise was the fan contacting ice. I put it back together using the original fan and it is working now and not making any noise.
