*Just* noticed after watching this that they really tried to keep the same color palette for each of the trio - Harry with the blues and blacks, Hermione's got sort of a dash of pink contrasting with another color (gray sometimes?) and then Ron always got the browns and maroons and such. Harry does have a lot of friends and I think some kids would think of him as cool. However, because of his connection with Voldemort, stuff happens and some people become distant. Especially, in the fifth book when people ignored and teased him. At this time, he was looking into Voldemorts mind every night and his head throbbed a lot. The moments when he crashed on the floor and started screaming while holding his head, students watching might have thought of him as crazy. Despite his anger issues and mental health problems, there were some people who kept supporting and those are his real friends. If it were not for his problems, I think Harry would definitely be a cool kid.

Thank you! I just watched the second two Fantastic Beasts films, in which Albus Dumbledore wears immaculate 3-piece-suits in muted blues and greys. He's teaching at Hogwarts but he could just as easily fit in at Oxford. And not even a bit of his favorite purple, not a tie, glove, pocket square, nothing. Everyone commenting on the great costuming in these films is having some seriously selective memories.

@ayoa11732 жыл бұрын
I have never minded the wearing of muggle clothes because the attachment of nearly always wearing robes is incompatible with the statue of secrecy. Hogsmead Village is the only all magical community in Britain so the vast majority of British and Irish wizards live among muggles. To avoid unnecessary attention, wizards should be dressing like muggles out in the world and that works better visually otherwise you have to add a lot of background actors giving weird looks to wizards as they walk around.

One thing I love about the costumes for Harry, Ron, Hermione, and even Draco is how each of they're costumes reflects where they're at as characters over the course of all eight movies. For example Harry having baggy clothes when we first see him in philosopher's stone perfectly sets up his arc not just over the course of one film but eight. Infact Cuarón deciding that the kids should wear normal clothes aside from the standard robes at school makes sense interms of these characters arcs.

Shame to hear how little Cuaron understood the story. Prisoner of Azkaban is supposed to take place in 1993, not a decade later, and Harry dressing “like the cool kid on the block” seems pretty at odds with his character’s story, too. Always wondered why they changed directors the way they did between Columbus and Yates - maybe that’s why.
@kaisattelberg55482 жыл бұрын
Yes, but two nitpicks: None of the movies tried to be outright period pieces - they always ran more or less 10 years after their book-accurate setting, which is glaringly obvious with some of the cars that can be seen in the later movies, or the fact that millenium bridge shows up in a movie set around 4 years before it was built. Harry technically might be dressed in "cool kid on the block"s clothing, as that's kinda what Dudley was - with the obvious difference that Harry's clothes then would have been second-hand and massively oversized. I generally like what Cuaron did with the franchise, but these interview scenes do sour the taste a little.

@ninjagamer13592 жыл бұрын
@@kaisattelberg5548 fair enough points. I do have a feeling, though, that the first real deliberate effort toward actively taking the series into a more modern setting seems to have spawned mostly from him, and perhaps only remained BECAUSE of what he established in this movie. All the muggle clothes featuring so prominently in contrast with the implications and depictions from the books certainly seems to have largely stemmed from these choices of his, too. But at the same time I do agree there is a lot of stuff he got right and the atmosphere he brought into the franchise and such were not all negative. I do love his casting and direction of Remus Lupin, for instance, who is my favorite character.
@ninjagamer13592 жыл бұрын
@@roonilwazlib7298 I agree that is certainly where he was coming from with that statement, but what that translates to in action was a deliberate choice of depicted the film as literally set in that specific time, too. I don’t see why a more “timeless” aesthetic, like what Columbus strove for, would have hurt. Executed properly, in fact, I think it only could have *increased* the effectiveness, relatability, and staying power of the films, as opposed to dating them so deliberately in the “now,” which can be more limiting in addition to being less faithful to the spirit of the books.

I think Columbus nailed what he was going for. Timeless. I always think those first two films deliver on something that the rest of the series simply can't compete with, though Order of the Phoenix gets close. It's frustrating that Cuaron sacrificed consistency for style. I wish he'd been more considerate of what Columbus valued when he made his movies, and realized that his film was the third in a franchise. It's probably an unpopular opinion, because Prisoner of Azkaban is beloved, but I think it's the weakest film in terms of continuity. PoA is a great movie, no one can deny that, but it's a bad sequel.

No movie is truly timeless and it's not like 1 & 2 could be released today as is and people wouldn't notice that the movies are old. No phones, more primitive CGI, the actual look of the movie through the cameras, it's unavoidable and shouldn't be treated as the be all end all.

I find it amusing that the director of the third film, Alfonso Cuaron, is clueless on when it was suppose to take place " he said " it takes place in 2003 2004" and he wanted the kids to dress more contemporary from this time. He is off by almost a full decade as Harry's third year was actually 1994-1995. This is my least favorite of the movies and when re-watching the series, I skip this one. All communities have a culture and their own values. By the end of the movies they all dress like muggles. Aren't there any fashion foward wizard or witch designers? Where is the Wizard Kanye West? Don't they have their own fast fashion and traditional fashion outlets? I like how making them more muggle-leaning speaks to the effects of globaliization and mordenization which has happened to all real life cultures. But I would imagime that Malfoy, being from a traditonal Wizard family would've opted for whatever goes for Wizard high fashion instead of a black muggle suit (for example). Maybe the film, makers will consider that in the inevitable re-boot.

Hi Harry Potter related here, I’m going to repeat what I’ve been saying all along, and this can also apply to the fact that #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore Is now streaming on HBO Max/crave/wherever you get HBO Max Contant and is about to come out on Blu-ray/DVD/4K On June 28 and on digital around then, so please take all of that plus the Screenplay book that’s about to come out on July 19 into consideration with the following that I’m going to say: But Remember that if you’re refusing to see it because of #JohnnyDeppIsMyGrindelwald Then please remember that this movie needs to do well so as to give Johnny the chance to actually come back in the Later movies, For the actor who played MacNair The executioner was re-casted for prisoner of Azkaban and then came back for order of the Phoenix. The bottom line is that if #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore Doesn’t do well, And they don’t make the remaining two movies,then Johnny definitely will never be back as Grindelwald!Plus you also have to remember that it’s about to be a new company with new people over seeing it, So as such you were technically not paying that company and are actually giving more of a chance than not having him actually return. Especially depending on what may happen with the results of his trial that’s going to be happening shortly after the movie comes out, the new people taking over Warner Bros. right before it comes out…… Also remember in regards to her that she doesn’t necessarily get a whole lot of money from this, as well the fact remains that as many people have pointed out that she already has so much money that not supporting the series will not really change any kind of “power“ that you may have against her, and after all the series should not suffer at all because of her for Regardless of what you may think, nothing I repeat nothing will ever ever truly take away what a series overall truly means to you let alone other people, And again it’s not The series that’s the problem at all in any kind of way :-) Also keep in mind that even though it’s not the best example they have at least one transgender person or someone who identifies themselves as “They” in the cast so much for her transphobia……
