When I'm binding, I use a paper towel holder and an old paper towel tube. I use painters tape and tape 1 end to the tube, wind my binding on it, then put it on the paper towel holder. As I'm pulling the binding, the tube spins on the holder and Voilà, no more binding on the floor

When I make my binding, I roll it up and drop it in a glass jar. It rolls out nicely when I’m sewing it and I don’t have to worry about the jar flopping around or the edge getting frayed.

April you have a fabulous creative studio. I’m loving all your new toys and I’m only the teeniest bit envious. 😉 next on my list is a 3D filament printer. My son has a resin one which is better for small things with lots of detail but a filament one can make so many different sewing accessories and tools. That must have been a bit frustrating that it won’t cut certain colours of acrylic. I know if I got one it would be all the colours I like that it wouldn’t cut! I wonder if you repeated the process without taking it out of the machine if it would’ve cut through the purple acrylic. (I don’t know if that’s even possible. 🤷🏻♀️) I know certain materials need two cuts or runs through the machine when I’m using my Cricut. On the bright side the red worked great and it helped you with your binding. I put mine on a large wooden spool and put it on my freestanding spool holder. You’re the second person I’ve recently seen using a serger to square up a quilt, I must give it a try. Nice work btw.

Thanks for the demo April! I sometimes use a binding tool, or not, 😂😂. Either way, I slide my binding under my machines table and to the right. It unrolls itself there and never gets all the threads from my quilting studio on it, nor do I get choked! Just a tip💕🧵

@marilynngriffin55382 ай бұрын
To tame the binding , I just use a piece of cardboard about the size of a comic book saver ( I don’t own those either), but you get the idea. Wind the binding around the cardboard and unwind as you need the binding.

I’m thinking the glitter e.g. metallic must be throwing the laser off…what about putting that paper they put on rulers when they ship it to us? The brown stuff…maybe that could protect the laser’s eye from the metallic in the acrylic and cut right through. I’ll be curious as to why it won’t cut through it…super cool tool there. 🤩 love the quilt. I’ve always wanted to make one of those cross quilts. 🤗🤗
@aprilscraftroom2 ай бұрын
I thought about that but it was coated with clear plat and said to remove before lasering. I was afraid it might start a fire. I am going to have to do more research.
@fransak27232 ай бұрын
The nice thing about serging the edges is that it helps the binding lay nice and flat and even. I recently purchased a pottery binding bowl that my friend made. It has a peg in the middle and holds a coil of binding which feeds through a slit in the side. It works great and it’s pretty too. If you use a three inch binding is your seam allowance bigger than the typical 1/4”?
