Hi Ken, that livery turned out great, one thing I would suggest you give a go is adding detail to your brushwork by using a thin 0.03mm pen, it gives very crisp outlines and can be used to fill in detail you just couldn't do with paint, I do love pen drawing so I guess I'm bias

Looks great! Good example of how one leader and some banners will clearly identify the unit. The rest of the men can wear compatible colors and small badges. I liked how you dotted the red quadrants on the back as a reminder of proper orientation. I once painted a complex heraldic fur pattern right on a tabard then flipped it on the shield . .

So cool you painted my family’s coat of arms Lucy Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland, 4th Baron Percy KG (1341-1408) (forfeit 1405) married, secondly, (d.1389), daughter of Thomas de Lucy, 2nd Lord Lucy and settled her large inheritance upon her second husband Hugh Percy, and his heirs male, on condition that they should always bear the arms of Lucy quartered with those of Percy.

As a painter of 28mm figurines purely for the pleasure and fun of the painting I was horified by the to me apparent slap dash painting of the coat of arms and then at the very end you showed the completed figure based up and in the full unit and I thought actually that looks really bloody good. If I was using the figures to wargame with I would be very happy with that paint job.

That’s the difference between painting a figure and painting an army, different techniques for different purposes. After starting with RPG character figures I’m still trying to learn better ways of completing larger units.

The video is one of the better ones. the knight's basic colors was fine, the heraldry painted did not look at all like fish and a lion. But you did say at two feet the knight would look good. Well at two feet the heraldry is great. I can definitely see fish and lion. Well done. I believe in the two feet to look at miniatures and the figure stand out in a unit.

Freehand went a lot better than expected. I wonder how they managed to pull them off in real-life medieval times. Did they use some sort of stencil or did they just hire a very skilled painter for each flag, shield and livery?

You seem like the right person to ask judging by the lovely job you did there! I've got a warwick miniature pewter shield that I want to paint my coat of arms on. I'm new to miniature painting and it's going in a doll's house. I'd like it to look as though it was an heirloom/display piece. In your more experienced opinion should I use gloss or matte enamel paint? Red/gules and gold are the colours.

I'd say matte, but it's up to you!

Dumb question but are you using magnets for the arms? I have a hard time with Perry figures and lining up the two handed weapons and its giving me fits.

I'm sorry, but I don't like your painting technique, especially since you should always start with the lightest colours.
