It is incredible how smooth this 3 Zylinder 4 stroke engine runs! Listen to the sound of a modern 3 zylinder from VW, Opel, etc. and decide! No rapp rapp rapp in idle turns and you give throttle it revs up immedialtely like my BMW 02ti! I have a Wartburg 1978 353 2 stroke and a BMW 2002ti! This Engine is much better than the "stoneold Potato" Engine from VW that had to be implatated in the Warburg 1.3 and Trabant 1.1!

Exactly ! :) This engine was developed between 1981-1984 ... in 1984 VW and AWE signed cooperation to licensed manufacturing engines EAA 111 1.1 and 1.3 . This was the worst decision at that time. This engine from Konrad Von Freyberg was much better than old,heavy and low performance engines from VW. And this engine pass to all AWE and Barkas models without huge modifications. Buy a VW licensed engines was good only for VW...they got a lot of money from GDR... and AWE spent a lot of money to change Wartburg cars to transversely mounted engine.

Ein guter Motor...unsere Ingenieure waren Spitzenklasse ...wenn die gekonnt hätten wie sie wollten... dann hätte die DDR auch massiv davon profitiert... aber die alten Säcke hatten keine Eier für den Fortschritt

What is the displacement and specifications of the Wartburg 3-cylinder 4-stroke engine? Also it is related to an alleged 60-70 hp 1100-1200cc 3-cylinder 4-stroke prototype engine that may or may not be derived from the Volkswagen EA827 engine, as was said to be the case with the 34 hp 1103cc 3-cylinder Trabant diesel prototype engine?

I heard they had a very far Agreement achieved between Wartburg and Renault but when Honecker seized power he turned it down because he mistrusted the French. So Romania under Ceaușescu made the deal with Renault.

@@Asachana The deal between Ceaușescu and Renault was made in the 1960s already. The Dacia 1300 was launched before the Renault 12 and they made a Dacia 1100 even earlier (Renault 8)

Dieser Motor wurde im AWE Werk von 1983-1986 entwickelt, wurde aber leider wegen dem großen Bruder Russland nicht in Serie produziert. Die Russen wollten lieber ihren Lada verkaufen.
