Of course it started it’s a damn Toyota . Come on man . If it’s running and you want to test the alternator just take the negative terminal off the batteries. If it stays running the alternator works. Well now that I watched you guys do this in the video I feel silly.

The idle sounds high on her. Idle air control valve may be a bit stuck from carbon. Happened to my black NA MR2 after some sitting.

Just bought one yesterday in the dark. She didn't look the same in the morning. Off to the recyclers to get a radiator, bumper and foam support for the front bumper. Good luck with yours!

Toyota 1.8 and 2.0 engines are notorios for having funny idles if their MAF sensor is dirty. Pull it out of the intake tube, spray it down with some non chlorinated brake cleaner and put it back in. Reset the ECU and start and let it run for about 10 minutes to reprogram the fuel map I had a 2002 Celica GT with a cold air intake and I cleaned mine every spring amd fall

That is gonna be such a fun little ride. If you did plugs, wires, coil packs, and fixed all the vacuum leaks. Along with flushing any fluids and changing the oil that would be a good little runner.

The alternator on the mk1(AW11) mr2's had an issue where water leaked front the engine lid and dripped onto the alternator damaging it over time in the process, I'd say it could have happened on this mk2 (SW20) mr2 because of the significant paint wear and watermarks (proving it was outside in the weather). Great video, by the way, would love if you kept the engine a Toyota engine and not a honda k swap!

As an MR2 owner here’s why you got a hidden gem 2.2 5SFE has the bigger displacement and a stronger block than its 3SGTE brother Getting 3SGTE heads should be an easy upgrade That’s it, plus they’re a blast to drive no matter what

My dads got an mr2 sw20 like this one and it was sat for a decade. We started it cause i want the car so i wanted to see if the engine was fucked or not. Started 2nd turn. Probably would have gone 1st if the battery was fully charged. Goes to show how good this engine is (apart from when its broken, dads mr2 burning oil so thats gonna be fun when i get around to it)

Congrats! Start up on first attempt. Okay, that idle is to dang high though. If your tanking the motor than I’ll stop now, but common issues: IAC if electronic, definitely clean that out when doing throttle body. The coolant sensors (and not the one for the gauge, the big green one) check the VSV’s and then every vacuum line. Blowing a bit of smoke, which I’m gonna go with power steering pressure switch vacuum lines are leaking fluid into the intake causing that. Pray to god it has red ATF fluid in the power steering reservoir or you can kiss that pump goodbye. And red coolant in the reservoir as well, made for Asian cars, the green stuff doesn’t last as long and messes with the sensors. Excited to see what you mad men do with this build!

Have you guys put the car on a lift yet? The front stabilizer bar on the 91-92 are know to break off the chassis. I had to cut a piece off a Junked chassis and get it welded to mines since it was missing a chunk of metal.

I once had a 2001 Toyota Celica vvti, I had an accident and it was sat for about 6 months, when I eventually got her back on the road she idled really high just like this does, still to this day don't know what it was but I went back to normal after some time. Hope this helps 👍

FRUNK. IAC valve is stuck. Alternator can cause High idle as well.. go to mr2oc . com . A lot of material.

Also the Mr. 2 throttle cable and e-brack cable always get stuck from moisture, making them dangerous. Better get new cables

It won't be battery because that only draws power to start the car you can run a car without a battery because the alternater takes over so more likely the alternater

At the throttle there should be a flat head screw we’re the lines to the egr are located stick a screw driver there and twist it like ur untigitng and u could hear the idle go down get it under 1 on the rmp and u should be good

Time to get rid of that 5s. There is multiple swaps for the mr2. 2 of the best in my opinion 3sgte any gen from 2-4 or a k 24 swap and the there is the v6 swap.

Remove the throttle body and get an old toothbrush with some throttle body spray and a rag and clean it and the idle valve
