I was aware of this show but I had stopped watching Nick with any regularity outside of the occasional Dan Schneider show at that time. The whole airing the same episode multiple times in the same week is something Nick does on a regular basis especially when they are trying to get people interested in a new show. They air the latest episode consistently in the week between that one and a new one. Once they have a good amount of episodes for reruns they mix it up a little bit but find one episode in particular and make sure that episode is run more often than all the others. They did a decent job with premiering Harvey Beaks same day as KCA’s. Some of the biggest shows in Nick history premiered those days like Spongebob and Angry Beavers. Putting Harvey Beaks same day as Spongebob is always a good sign especially when it was the first new episode since like “Spongebob, You’re Fired!” I’m not quite sure what the ratings were like then because I don’t remember there being a lot of hoopla surrounding the return of Spongebob at that time. I was slowly coming around to maybe believing the show was just petering our like how they burned off the last half of the final season of Fairly Oddparents on Nicktoons. However I have always believed that Spongebob is Nick’s Mickey Mouse and the network simply cannot exist on cable tv if Spongebob goes away. Nick realized this and exploited Stephen Hillenburg’s death as an opportunity to expand on the Spongebob brand which is disrespectful to Hillenburg’s legacy but that’s a conversation for another time. In terms of this video, Harvey Beaks was a show I just thought existed but maybe just ok and therefore didn’t last long. It had an ok life in reruns on Nicktoons but recently they have replaced it with the newer shows of Casagrandes and The Loud House and older reruns of Back at the Barnyard and Tuff Puppy. I could see this show either being revived on a streaming service or becoming a cult favorite a la Invader Zim, which was a show I despised in its original airings and perhaps need to give another chance as an adult.

This is why Cartoon Network is better. At least with most of their shows (RIP OK KO), they give them fair chances and run with what they have. Shows like Steven Universe, Adventure Time, and Regular Show were widely loved, and CN new that and kept them going, and stopped production simply when the creators felt it had a good run. Nickelodeon will just throw out any good idea they have because it doesn’t get as much attention as SpongeBob. Well, of course it wouldn’t do as well as SpongeBob, ITS SPONGEBOB! The only cartoon they actually cared enough to have around that didn’t go to Nicktoons from my memory was The Loud House, because... oh I dunno... they GAVE IT A CHANCE! And because of that, it got good recognition. But with all their other shows, they just barely care enough to take at least 5 SpongeBob reruns out of their schedule to make room for their new show. And yet, they still expect the world from it. I mean, do you really think a show like PigGoatBannanaCricket would stand a chance against SpongeBob?! Yeah, no. But that doesn’t mean you should stop caring about it.
@TuesdaysArt4 жыл бұрын
At some point, TTG and (to an extent) TAWOG became CN's "SpongeBob", though it seems like CN had a better selection of shows compared to Nickelodeon. Nick's shows tend to lean toward a younger audience and when they do try to add shows with a more mature tone, they're mishandled by the network. I'm just an outsider looking in, but it feels like Nickelodeon was more formulaic than Cartoon Network...or rather, CN allowed for more creative control than Nick. I could definitely be wrong. Honestly, the transition to streaming is probably a really good thing for creators. You don't have to worry about a skewed airing schedule if all of the episodes are on demand.

These days, if a show isn't IMMEDIATELY as successful as Spongebob, Nickelodeon wants nothing to do with it. That's how they've been since at least 2007. They ought to thank their lucky stars that they didn't have this attitude back in the 90s, because Spongebob itself would've been canceled after one season. That may seem like a ridiculous statement to people who weren't alive or too young to remember when Spongebob first premiered, but it's true. It wasn't some magical cartoon that exploded into superstardom right out of the gate. Rugrats was still the more popular show for the first year or so of Spongebob's life. It was through constant word of mouth and brilliant fucking material that Spongebob became what it is. Or rather, was.

With the poor treatment the Legend of Korra got from Nick several years ago when it came to little advertising for Book 3 to suddenly putting the rest of Book 3 and Book 4 online out of nowhere (alongside not giving Bryke the proper time to properly plan out the entire story of Korra with the original plan being only one book) and then hearing about Harvey Beaks to hardly seeing it air on the network, Nick has really angered me with how little they seem to care about their programming (especially when it comes to cartoons that are not Spongebob). I haven't watched the channel since 2013 when Book 3 of Korra was airing on TV and it saddens me that C.H. Greenblatt got such poor treatment with his project he worked on for over seven years only for it to be thrown away into obscurity. When I was a kid watching Nick during the early 2000s to early 2010s, they seemed to have cared at the time but it feels like it's a ghostown these days and disrespecting creators such as C.H. Was Harvey Beaks treated fairly by Nickelodeon? No, absolutely not. I have barely watched this show myself, but the fact that Nickelodeon barely gave the show a chance is disgusting. As Pieguy pointed out, Harvey's and SpongeBob's ratings in September 2015 weren't too different. If Harvey aired more consistently, the show could've been more successful. I'm not sure if it would ever be as popular as SpongeBob, but at least do good. After all, SpongeBob had consistent airings back in 1999, when it was a new show. And to SpongeBob's credit, Nickelodeon barely air new SpongeBob episodes either. Episodes can be put on hold for months, even years. I'm disappointed in Nickelodeon. How can they treat a cartoon like that? Is that even good for business?? And as a SpongeBob fan myself (yes, still), this kind of treatment of cartoons will only cause more vitriol towards SpongeBob, which infuriates me.

The Cyma era is something I won't miss at all. The first few years were fine especially with the Nicktoons Thanksgiving 2007 marathon (where they aired all the first episode of their cartoons that they had up to this point). But once iCarly became successful, Nick decided to put animation to backside and focus more on live-action sitcoms that were rather similar to Disney (I respect them, but I hate how much they got promoted more than the new Nicktoons at the time). And the management were really harsh on new cartoons. I'm just glad we have a new president who knows how to treat animation with respect.

I wasn't really allowed to watch anything but Spongebob on Nickelodeon, but saw a few episodes of this while on vacation. I don't really remember much about the episodes, but I think I enjoyed them. It's really sad to see Nick treat cartoons poorly just because they don't get the same viewership as a longer running, more popular cartoon.

3:54 Reruns were actually SUPER important for cable, and SpongeBob' s and The Loud House's ability to still have strong ratings with reruns was crucial for their success. I mean, from channel's point if view, they get to make the same ammount of ad money for doing nothing, it's a dream come true
@baryardeni97314 жыл бұрын
Sadly it is not new that Nickelodeon are not giving their new shows the chance that they deserve if they don't hit the high ratings of SpongeBob. Somehow, The Loud House did manage to have that luck. The rest, though - no high rating, no for Nickelodeon. -_-

I watched every episode of Harvey beaks. And let me tell you that this show was doomed for failure from the start. I remember when greenblatt announced the show on tumblr. One question came from a fan saying “I loved this show but why is it on nick?” He responded by saying because they believed in me (I’m paraphrasing) . It says a lot about the network when that was a frequently asked question before the show was even cancelled. I remember before the show even aired there wasn’t much promotion on the premiere outside of a few weeks maybe even a month. Meanwhile I remember seeing sneak peeks and lots of promotions of loud house months before it premiered. I love loud house as much as I loved harvey beaks but even I noticed that nick was airing and promoting The later show wayyyyyyy more than the former and it shows. because harvey beaks crumbled and was sent to die within 2 years. while the loud house is still here nearly 5 years later. Had nick gave out equal promotion and reruns we’d probably wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

I wonder why he wouldn't stick with CN, especially since he already had a show on the network. Did he have a bad experience? Did CN executives not like the idea? Did Nick have a (seemingly) better offer? I don't really get it.

I remember reading on TV Tropes that they suddenly bring Harvey Beaks back after June, when The Loud House became a huge hit. I'm honestly wondering if there were any Loud House episodes that aired alongside Harvey, because apparently both Halloween episodes aired alongside each other and they immediately decided to rerun Tricked a butt load of times (which I do remember that happening). Also, I'll be real, it shouldn't matter if a Halloween episode doesn't air on Halloween. As long as it's on October, it's fine for a Halloween episode to air.

I want to also add that in the premiere date of the "Spitting Tree" putting the show before SpongeBob was a big deal not only being the new episode in over a year but also remembering that "Sponge out of water" released earlier in the year so Spongebob was again on the mainstream mind with the second movie. If they wanted it, Harvey Beaks could've had a big chance if they premiered more episodes earlier and rerun it a bit more. It is also mindblowing how hard Nick ditched it in the first 2 months. Is like a new executive came and wanted it off the radar. Guess what? here in my house, we're changing cable provider and Nick's main channel is now outside basic pack so I don't have to support in any way Nick with their scummy practices. and with the programming they have, might as well be Boomerang with the same shows on repeat. I still love SpongeBob and other Nicktoons but this network has shown nothing but contempt to its creators. Hope that someday it can change for the better but I don't see that happening.
