Many prophets use the same language. Joel 2, John in Revelation 6, Jeremiah 31 It is talking about the Day of the Lord or Judgment Day.

Isaiah 13. Passing chap, 12, which is a mere song of joy, because of the presence of summer, I next come to the burden, oracle, or prophecy of, or concerning Babylon, or winter; for this myth of the year, which I have all along been dealing with, must be made to assume every conceivable form. Isaiah (the Savior the Sun), the son of Amoz (the zodiac), is the seer or prophet. The noise of the nations of the mountains (summer months) comes from the end of the heaven of the Lord (Jahveh), with the weapons of his indignation (the winter) to destroy the whole land - to stop the growth of vegetation (v. 5), and to lay the land desolate, i.e., to deprive it of the direct rays of the Sun (v. 9). Therefore, howl ye; for the (last) day of the Lord (Jahveh = summer) is at hand; "it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty" (v. 6). This last sentence gives but an imperfect idea of the original keshod mishaddai jabo = " it shall come according to the failure of the breasts;" thus implying the gradual cessation of the summer crops; when "they shall be afraid; pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them" (v. 8). "This (equinoctial day) of the Lord (Jahveh) cometh cruel, both with wrath and fierce anger" (v. 9); for the constellations, i.e., the six summer constellations, shall not give their (summer) light, the Sun shall be darkened (as in winter), and the moon shall not cause her light (but that of the Sun) to shine (v. 10). Thus, will I, by the hardships of winter, punish the world for their evil, i.e., for getting into the winter hemisphere? Behold, I will stir up the Medes (middle days, or such as partake of winter and summer) against them, which shall not regard silver (summer); and as for gold (spring), they shall not delight in it, for the time will be winter, the iron age (v. 17). At v. 19 we come to the prophecy of the destruction, or end of Babylon or winter. In her last days, i.e., at the end of winter, Babylon, "the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency," shall be as (it was) when God (Elohim = Aries in summer) overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah (winter), i.e., it shall remain as it was when Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown. The question will naturally arise: What was Babylon's condition at the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah? Was Babylon the same as Sodom and Gomorrah? Of course, the ordinary reader thinks it was destroyed as were Sodom and Gomorrah, and the text seems to bear out that idea. If destroyed as Sodom and Gomorrah were, then must the same phenomena have happened. There must have been a shower of fire and brimstone, and somebody's wife must have been turned into a pillar of salt, etc. (see Gen. 19, for the details). Again: If it was to remain as Sodom and Gomorrah, then, since there are left no traces of these cities, there can be none of Babylon. This idea is well supported by Dr. Adam Clarke, who relates - "that by the concurrent testimony of modern travelers, no remains, not the least traces of these prodigious works, are now to be found " (comment, in loco.) Babylon (bab = gate; el = ram; on = Sun, the gate of the Ram-Sun, or Eloh = winter solstice) was a mythological city, like all Bible cities. The name may have been transferred to Earth, as in other instances, Heliopolis (Sun-city), etc., for example. Of course, time past can "never be inhabited," except by creatures of the imagination; "doleful creatures," as satyrs, etc. The owls or ostriches must be left out, as they are not mentioned in the Hebrew text.

There is also another way of seeing that verse. Jesus said "Truly I tell you some of you will not taste death before you see the Son of man coming in His kingdom" - one of those there was John (we don't know that John was the only one that God gave this insight to out of the group - he is just the only one that wrote it down). He saw the Son of man coming in His kingdom - he wrote about it in Revelation. How many people in the USA watched the Superbowl? they SAW the Superbowl but they were not AT the Superbowl. John SAW what was going to happen and wrote it down before he died, that does not necessarily mean he had to be there and that is what people assume by that passage.

Jesus clearly spoke of prophecies that would take time to fulfill first. His flock that was not of this fold, meaning the gentiles coming to faith and His disciples taking the gospel throughout the world to reach them. There's no way one could interpret His end times prophecies to come soon in that light. Context and using the whole of scripture is essential for that reason.

1. You can say that it's a combination of short-term and long-term prophecy, but the passage itself makes no such distinction. It ends with "Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until ALL these things have happened", which means it's all short-term. 2. This passage is in direct response to the disciples asking Jesus "what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"... not, "what will be the sign of the Roman army coming?" 3. Frank's interpretation of "The Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory" as the Roman army seems like a massive stretch to me. It's followed up with "And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens." That's not a description of what happened in 70 AD. 4. Isaiah 13 says that the stars will not show their light, not that they will fall. My Bible also points to Isaiah 34, which says "the stars in the sky will be dissolved... all the starry host will fall". That passage sounds much more like the end-times final judgement. 5. After talking about the flight to the mountains, it says "there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now---and never to be equaled again." The events of 70 AD were bad, but they could hardly be called the worst ever. I think it's clear that the author had the end times in mind, not just a war between Jews and Romans.

Just thought I would take a few minutes and see what popped up. Haven't really studied this from more than one perspective have you? What "generation" was the focus of the comments? The generation then living or the generation which started to witness these horrific events? According to the majority of Christian scholars I have read the generation referenced is most likely the latter. Looking at the passage from that viewpoint makes everything much more clear and rational along with what those people, and subsequent generations observed. Really should take the time to research this more deeply. But you haven't been noted for doing that in the past so why should you change now? Dr. Turek just added other concepts related to the passage. He talked about the perception that much of biblical prophesy does have short term as well as long term references. Many Christian scholars have made mention of that in relation to certain prophesies. Then you know all about biblical prophesy and how it must be evaluated. Seems you know much more than any and all Christian scholars, and all Christians regardless of how much they study, since it appears you don't think such a thing exists; Christian scholars knowing what the Bible says or means. Of course, you don't need to accept anything any Christian says whether considered a scholar or not. You haven't done so in the past regardless of what the issue or topic was. Dr. Turek gave reasoned answers related to the issues here. That is all that is necessary. Accept or deny is irrelevant to Dr. Turek or any other Christian for that matter. Paul, thought, as well as all Christians at the time that the time of his second coming was close but they where wrong.. You can see it in the letters. It would make a lot of sense if they believed it based on the prophecies. It'd obvious from the letters that people started saying that Jesus is late because we read that God did not came yet nit because he is late but because he waiting for more people to be saved... But then, 2000 years passed so can't we say now that he is indeed late? Even if 1000 years is like 1 day for God then that would mean that he said he will come on Monday and now it's Wednesday... The 70 AD argument makes no sense. When God said, "truly I say to you this generation will not pass he was giving instructions to them on how to act when these things happen. He was answering a specific question to the people who listened to him. And he was preparing the people who listened to him at the time for all these things.. So the generation that begins to witness those events is still the current generation that Jesus is talking to. In my opinion, the only plausible solution is to fiddle with the meaning of the word "generation". Stretch it out to mean something nebulous like "age" or something. I don't think it's a good solution, and I think it makes Jesus look deceptive, but if you are theologically committed to interpreting it as a true prophecy, then I think it's the best we have.

As a partial-preterist, I get the short-term fulfillment but where do you get the dual fulfillment from? Just wondering. Most people that hold to a futurist or dispensational view, often state there is a dual fulfillment but never quite point out scripture to back it up. Jesus said many times that His generation would see the end. He wasn't talking about the end of the world. He was talking about the end of the Jewish world, the end of the Mosaic world, the final judgement of Israel in 70 AD when the Roman army destroyed the temple and Jerusalem. Jesus even told the high priest that he would see it. Coming in clouds is a prophets way of saying coming in judgement. The partial preterist model is by far the better model.

So, Jesus returned in AD 70? Could you please provide evidence outside of Scripture for this monumental event? I ask for this evidence because as Jesus said “every eye shall see and every ear shall hear” when He returns. And if that’s true then we should have copious accounts of His return in numerous extra biblical sources. There’s also the problem that Israel was not a country, it was a couple of areas, Judea was Samaria, which after the rebellion and siege AD70, Rome renamed the area Alia Palestina, at least this how I understand it. I would really like the info on His return because my church just excommunicated a member for his refusal to repent from his following the heresy of full Preterism and I considered him a good friend and I’d like to have the evidence one way or another. I’ve looked at some sources outside of Scripture and have yet to find any evidence of Jesus’ physical return in AD 70……. The evidence must be OUTSIDE of Scripture because for this issue, the Bible can be twisted and distorted to make a point. But if Jesus really retuned, we should ALL know it and to make matters worse we are all doomed to hell as all the prophecies have been fulfilled and there’s really no point to study Scripture, go to church, share your faith……

Matthew 24:36 Jesus himself says that he does not know the day or the hour of the end times. It is only the Father who knows. My understanding to the man’s question was not that Jesus was talking about the transfiguration but Jesus being resurrected and establishing his kingdom in the hearts of his believers (Luke 17:21). I am not a theological scholar by any means, but this still makes the most sense to me.

What MADMAN gave you access to that Transition pack. For the love of God, you don’t need a transition from shot to shot. They should be used strategically, not Willy-Nilly oh I’ll use a shake transition here, I’ll use a pan left here, and oohhhh, a pan diagonal right over here. When you’re doing a video like this, it’s not necessary to use so many different ones. Use pan left every time you want to switch to artwork and pan right every time you switch back the speaker. It’s all a piece of the puzzle to give us the final picture. Nero was a shadow of the final Antichrist. Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, Solomon, Hamon, Herod, Judas…ALL of these are pictures of the FINAL ANTICHRIST. We learn from each one to reveal a picture of the last guy. Nero was just Nero. (As the coins minted under Nero's rule had Nero's image and name on them). the "back of the hand or the forehead" is a metaphor. It alludes to the practice mentioned in Deuteronomy 6:8 where gods commandments should be revered by "Bind[ing] them as a sign on your hand and let[ting] them be a symbol on your forehead." John is saying that the laws of the beast are being honored (falsely) as god's commandments are.

Suggesting he was talking about the transfiguration is silly. Why would he say "some" of you won't taste death? Did "some" die between him saying that and the transfiguration that happened right after? Why would he think anyone was gonna die between him saying that and the very next scene? This would be like me saying to people in my house, "Some of you will not die before they see me eating a sandwich." Then walking into the kitchen, making myself a sandwich, and then eating it in front if them. Who talks like that?

For those who want more on this perspective try reading the book The Parousia or another book called The Last Days of Jesus by Sproul. I believe the Mt 24 and related chapters relates to 70AD when their whole life was turned upside down and the Temple was destroyed. I still think that the writings of Paul still refer to a future time to us as well. This perspective was popular among various theologians before the 'Left Behind' thinking took over in the US.

Since we don't have any of the words of Jesus accurately recorded, it is more accurate to say that early Christians were wrong about the end times. It is clear that they thought Jesus return was imminent before even any of the Gospels were written.

Frank is wrong about Matthew 24. The sign of the Sun, Moon and Stars happens at the second coming of Jesus. He said it would happen immediately after the tribulation of those days. It actually happens at the opening of the 6th seal in Revelation 6:12. We are not there yet.

Problem with the transfiguration being the fulfillment of the end of Matthew 16 is Jesus said some of them would not die before seeing, implying that some of them would. But none of them had died before the transfiguration. I think Frank was spot on with Matthew 24 though

I guess the understandable problem people have with bible verses like this is that even if they are ultimately true, the way that preachers can make a case for "it's metaphorical when it didn't happen but literal when it did" is an easy go-to for when verses don't quite make sense. And from an outsider's perspective, it's too convenient for them to buy it.

My only criticism is that when Bible scholars state the some passages that are literal to be taken either symbolically or are are exaggerations. ISA. 13 is about the Day of the Lord, a future event. Ccross reference Rev 8:12 talks about a future darkening of the sun, stars and moon. I take that literally

Jesus himself said that even the Son doesn't know the day and hour of his return, only the Father. Mt 24:36. So obviously the verse preceding that was not pinpointing a time of his return because that would contradict what he said just 2 verses earlier in the text.

Dan 7:13-14 is the key. Daniel says that he sees the son of man “with the clouds of heaven, came to the Ancient of Days, and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and a kingdom.” His “coming with the clouds” was his ascension. The evidence that he is Lord and God is that his judgment against Jerusalem -destroying the temple-occurred as he prophesied.

The next verse, "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." In this verse, he is talking to his disciples. How can that be talking about the day of judgement? That is talking about something that would happen in their lifetime, or am I missing something?

Regarding the matter of fleeing to the mountains, that is in reference to the need to flee Jerusalem immediately upon seeing the Abomination of Desolation. This is the Midpoint of the 7 years, when the Beast comes fully into his power and implements his global religion. This can't be referencing the siege of AD70, because the desecration of the Temple in that event happened at the end of the siege, when it was impossible to flee. By that point, they were already surrounded and/or slain.
