Sorry it took so long to get to the video been having teeth problems. Pretty bad too but I’ll be ok. Hope you have a great weekend and see you soon!

Great video and definitely a surprise that more threads does not equate to more weight distribution. Also nice to see that the % of weight shift is fairly close, though as others have commented already, the other hitch may be able to be tweaked to shift more...

Great info! But I think the idea is to get the ball as close to the rear axle of the tow vehicle as possible (the space from the axle to the ball is called the "overhang", and the less overhang, the better). So the other hole in the Andersen shank should be used to get the ball closer to the rear axle.

Me also. But with it closer, I have to push in the raise jack button to open/close my tailgate. So close. But, I run it in the close hole anyways.

Awesome. We run 8 threads showing on our Tundra and THEN lower it down onto the ball. Tightens it up a lot and the trailer is perfectly level to the ground.

Thanks for the video. I have the old bar and chain set up and the shank is bent in my hitch. It’s a cheap generic brand that came with the trailer when the previous owners picked it up new. I’m a seasoned truck driver that hauls heavy in northern BC Canada which makes pulling a travel trailer a little easier than a weekend warrior. Anyways, I want to upgrade my hitch and your videos are fantastic. The Anderson is #1 on the list so far. I have a 7500# loaded bumper pull and this light weight hitch compared to others sounds like a well balanced unit. I really like the fact that it can reduce bounce and sway. My wife hates the dolphin effect of frost heaves in northern ab and bc. Thanks again.

Thanks for all your efforts, the info is useful - but I am confused... I can't follow the math. The numbers shown for the axle weights for the 3 groups of: no weight distribution hitch; weight distribution hitch with 5 threads showing and weight distribution hitch with 7 threads showing do not add up. Please clarify since I need to buy a weight distributing hitch and favor the Andersen. Thanks

The Andersen is not right for every rig and each person has to decide what is the best for them. I would not use the Andersen on a trailer larger than ours but absolutely love it with what we have now.

@@TravelswithDelaney Can I ask why you wouldn’t use the Andersen on a bigger trailer?
@chadridsdale99706 ай бұрын
@Spinrb8 I switched to an andersen hitch 1.5 years ago from a bar type wdh and it doesn't transfer as much weight. But it does transfer enough and overall it is much better. I have a 20 f150 with tow package and a 27' 8500 lb trailer. I have read that for a trailer over 35' the andersen doesn't transfer enough weight and/or tow nicely. I'm not sure but if it doesn't transfer enough weight, maybe it needs proper adjustments or a bigger truck to tow. I follow max 80% of what the truck is rated for. For my use I would buy it again

Ive used the reese steady flex for 3 years, almost like the r3 but has friction pads to reduce sway, in my case with 2014 f150 SC and 5000lb 24 foot tt, it works fantastic for both WD and anti sway, highly recommended 👍🏻

Since that video, I thought that the weight distribution from the Anderson seemed a bit light, but I did not know how much weight was supposed to be distributed anyway. This makes more sense.

I am glad I caught the issue. It should tow even better now that it is properly set.
@alanbennett59502 жыл бұрын
For my setup the Andersen hitch never delivered acceptable results. I had the hitch up to 9 threads but still insufficient weight transfer and considerable trailer sway. I went to Blue ox Sway Pro and the results were better. Not fantastic but better.
@chadridsdale99706 ай бұрын
What size truck and trailer do you have?
@alanbennett59506 ай бұрын
The truck is a 2020 F-150 and the trailer is a Cougar 27RES, dry weight 6,544 lbs.
@chadridsdale99706 ай бұрын
@alanbennett5950 so it's comparable to my set up. I'm glad you found something you're happier with. I went from a bar type wdh hitch to the andersen. The andersen doesn't transfer weight as well, but does everything else better. 1 key consideration for me is my driveway has a 90 degree turn with a fairly steep uphill. The bar system had to be undone and then the hitch would grind the asphalt. The andersen can stay done up and no issues. When towing I don't notice sway and way less porpoising. I have to watch my speed with the andersen because it's easy to drive faster.

Patrick, what model Anderson WD hitch did you have (ie 3394)?
@rsimmons71652 жыл бұрын
Chances are that the R3 hitch has adjustment left that will transfer even more weight. Was able to dial in my R3 to exactly the amount of weight I wanted to transfer to the front axle on my truck. With the proper R3 bars you can easily get at least 75% of the weight back to your front axle which correlates to quite a bit more weight distribution than I believe you are currently getting with your R3. You optimized the Andersen for best performance; I suggest you do the same for the R3. Having owned both the Andersen and the R3 hitch my experience is that the R3 will transfer significantly more weight than the Andersen. That being said, thanks for doing these videos; they are very interesting.

First off let me say this, thank you this was a great informational video. Second thank you for making an 8 and 1/2 minute video without 22 minutes of BS like most channels do. I'm thinking of going to the Anderson hitch for the simplicity of hooking up and unhooking, I'm currently using the husky centerline system and it works well. Do you find between the two systems you've used your happy both ways? Or is it just the simplicity of the Anderson that has you sold? Both perform basically as well ?
@TravelswithDelaney2 жыл бұрын
The bar system will do a better job with weight distribution but we have been super happy with the Andersen for sway control. We also love the fact that you can back up the trailer without removing it and it is so quiet compared to the bar systems. I am not sure I would use it on a trailer much larger than ours but for something under 25' and 6000#, I think it works very well. I definitely prefer it for us over the bars.

@@TravelswithDelaney Thanks for the reply , sure was interesting with the two extra turns that didn't do anything with weight, but who knows I may have stiffened up the sway portion
@robgrune3284 Жыл бұрын
No surprise when you say more threads result in zero changes to the "weight distribution" on the axles. A WDH does not distribute weight. Weight is a force: mass x gravity. A WDH does not change the mass, nor the gravity, nor the location of the mass. A WDH adds a force vector to counter the down force at the tow ball. The amount of squat is an indication of the amount of down force, not a measure, and the squat creates a deflection angle relative to horizontal. ANYTHING that reduces the deflection angle to zero will result in the "shift of weight" to the TV front wheels and the TT wheels. [simple physics of levers]. Air bags do a better job of this. When zero deflection angle is achieved, no more counter force is required.
