Lol...your multi texture pattern is extremely similar to mine! I call mine a 3c front 4a top 4b back and 4c sides. I entirely feel you on how that back tangles too, in fact mine will try to mat up overnight unless braided. I hadn't considered deeply about multiporosity but it makes sense. Nothing in my hair is really the same, it is a mix of everything :) your hair is very lovely, gives me hope!

BklynBabe Hey BklynBabe. Yes you sound like me, lol. Yes their is hope :-) How do you prep your hair for bed? Do you put it up in a pineapple?
@BklynBabe10 жыл бұрын
Embrace Natural Beauty I actually do wngs almost every day and if I'm not going out then I have my hair braided up with conditioner and a scarf. I don't have quite enough length for a good pineapple, plus I like fresh curls, I hate frizz (that back section really has no ackrite, lol), and the way my job is set up I prefer to cleanse my hair daily if going in public. I also love shampoo, although I have found a great gentle sulfate and etc free cleanser (palmers New Shea formula) and I do a slightly modified Dickey method. I also deep condition 2-3x a week. I love my natural hair and it only takes me about 15-20 min for my wng. :)

I very much appreciated this video for a couple of reasons. 1. I also have approximately 4 textures of hair and it's very similar to yours in the same areas that you showed and spoke about. 2. I really preferred you actually talking on camera as apposed to your speaking over your demonstration. All that you spoke of I have found it to be so in regards to my hair as well. Although there is a lot that I have discovered over the years regarding my hair, I have learned quite a bit more from viewing your channel. Thank you again for your time and in-depth explanations.

I definitely agree with you regarding certain oils. I've found through trial & error my hair responds the best to castor & olive oil. Coconut oil works for me best if I use it as a pre poo with conditioner.

With respect to coconut oil I don't think its best for styling and sealing. I find coconut oil best for the prepoo only I save Argan and Jojoba oils for styling and sealing and I have normal porosity hair

I did notice coconut making my hair hard if I apply directly to my freshly washed hair. I now layer my products usually in this order. 1. Leave-in conditioner (most likely my regular wash out. I dont completely wash it out. 2. An actual leave-in conditioner 3. Curl definer 4. Gel 5. Closest oil blend. Argan and Almond are my favs. Now I am using products with coconut oil but I increase my leave-in/water prior to application.

Flax seed gel is a HUGE no way in my hair. It gives amazing definition, but my hair felt like it would snap in half. After a rough start with coconut oil, my hair loves it under any cream, including conditioner, as a leave-in. I also mix a medley of oils with water as a finishing spritz. It curls the very tips up and makes them shiny!

I do the LOG method...I use Paul Mitchell The Conditioner leave in, I like my Oil second( I use a 50/50 ratio of coconut and castor oil mix) and then my Ecostyler last. in the winter months I found I need a heavier oil like to coconut oil nut in the summer months I switch to a lighter oil like grapeseed. I've never warmed up the conditioner, so I will definitely try this!

I love rose oil, amla, argan, hemp, cactus I love mustard oil. it keeps down the fungus but it stinks. The winner for me is jojoba. I buy the oil and put it in my shampoo and conditioners. The best leave in conditioner i make is acv, conditioner and jojoba with a little argan. Your method will help so much because my hair is exactly like yours and I want to grow it out under my wig but wear it confidently and transition to natural. I've stopped using coconut oil too. Ive recently discovered that my hair is protein sensitive and like you, I have about 3 hair types. And it can become difficult at times to manage... I am now testing olive oil and grape seed oil. So far, olive oil works best layered under Eco gel for my twist/Curl sets while grape seed oil works best at sealing the moisture when I do my bun styles. It's all about finding what works best for you as you said :-) Thanks for your thoughts! They were helpful....When I run out of my oils I will be trying the argon oil and maybe jojoba oil OR avocado oil...we'll see :-)

@levernebrown6688 жыл бұрын
+Wannella Lawson It depends on the style. If I'm wearing a curl set, perm rot set or braid out, I will seal my hair with avocado oil. If I'm wearing a protective style, I use a mixture of almond, olive and castor oil. For my pre poo treatments, I use sunflower oil. I have type 2B/3A low porosity hair.

I had a routine that ended with Knot Today and Kinky-Curly. I finally learned how to use it to get great results. But my hair while it lasts longer, it tends to sometimes look like I walked under a bucket of shellac. Once, I tried Pillow Soft gel instead and got the most amazing results. But for some reason, I couldn't replicate it. I really never know how my WNGs are going to come out. But right now after an embarrassingly frizzy day at work (experimenting with coconut oil, clay, etc.), I am returning to what I know. Your videos are always helpful. Hoping to locate and go to your salon because I live in Manhattan.

Thanks, I've been on the fence on my wash n go's. I like the convenience and easiness of styling and I have seen a lot of hair growth but I don't like the knots, but I have been using a light hold gel. Maybe that has something to do with it plus it doesn't last all week, about 3 days. I'll definitely give the ECOstyler 10 hold a shot. Also, I have noticed that my hair gets stiff when I use coconut oil. I have been limiting it's use until the day before wash day.

Coconut oil makes my hair extremely dry and my hair feels and looks like a brillo pad. I stop using it completely. I can not use coconut or shea butter in my hair because both dries out my hair. Olive oil works for me. I've been using Taliah Waajid African Healing Oyl and its been wonderful on my hair may be because it has vitamin E

Your hair is beautiful and I see the growth. Coconut oil makes my hair hard as well. I started using Jardin oil from Hair Veda and castor oil. Castor oil is very good for my hair. I add jojoba oil to my deep conditioner. I want my hair to be softer. Flaxseed gel (Shea moisture gel souffle) helps to hold moisture in my hair and Ecostyler is great for hold. I use Giovanni as a leave in with castor oil. I experiment as well since I am transitioning and I want the new growth to be soft and nourished. I also take biotin pills.

I was using the kinky curly but wanted to see if there is something more moisturizing. With the AIA and olive oil my hair is very soft. I never used olive oil...and really like the way my hair feels. I don't know if you restrict ingredients or not. But I would love to see you try the Wet Line Xtreme gel or the Super Wet gel. Those are pretty popular and cheap. @EmbraceNaturalBeauty10 жыл бұрын
Ashababy O I tend to stay away from cheap products. Eco Styler is the only inexpensive item I like because of it's ingredients and performance. I will check out the ingredients in the two gels and if there is nothing I avoid I am happy to try. :-) I have been doing WNG every week since July 2012. During the colder months I usually wash my hair on a day I do not have to go out or at least not immediately after washing it. With WNG I am on auto pilot, I don't have to think about what I'm going to do if I don't like it. I will experiment with other techniques when my schedule permits for preparation and potential "not exactly what I was expecting outcome" It's hard to shift when you find what works. But I owe it to myself and it would be good for sharing the process with others. Thank you for your comments!

Hello...new subscriber. Are you using the oils after the hair is completely dry, or as one of the layering methods when styling your wash and go?
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty9 жыл бұрын
rinae Kay Welcome! I apply the oil as the final layering method. Initially for lubrication, but in the bitter cold winter it also serves to keep moisture from escaping into the dry air if your gel has glycerin or other humectants.
@rinaekay36699 жыл бұрын
Thanks for quick response. I love my definition with my Eco...not sure if the olive oil or crystal or argon is a difference, but its never soft until day 4.
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty9 жыл бұрын
rinae Kay That is the gel cast. Some people prefer to scrunch their hair to loosen the cast. That will make your hair feel softer and add some frizz. I believe MahoganyCurls uses this technique. I never scrunch out the gel cast. But since I started using a hand held steamer after stretching my hair to add length it causes the cast to fade...

Hi beautiful I have a ? at what point of your wash and go styling do you apply the oil i was under the impression that you use a leave in conditioner and then gel
@Shortcake395539 жыл бұрын
I've tried regular coconut oil, organic coconut oil, olive oil regular and organic, vitamin e oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil. my hair looks exactly like your hair even the low porosity and fine hair of my hair is where yours is. I leave a small amount of conditioner in after washing my hair, add Shea moisture manuka honey and mafura oil mask as my styler and seal with sweet almond oil and braid it to the scalp. please try this, it takes at least 24 hours to dry. then unbraid it and the definition, shine texture is beautiful but leaving out the gel makes it frizz faster. but Eco does not play well with Shea moisture product and flakes bad so you lose in the longevity of the style.

So another beautician on KZbin says that the hair grows the same and we only have one texture. I believe her because the area that most of us find to be different is in the crown because it's exposed to the sun and other natural elements more than the other parts of the scalp. Furthermore, the way we sleep may affect the way the hair lays. Not because it grows differently...
@Star1929778 жыл бұрын
Not true for everyone. I don't sleep on the top of my head nor my face. The top of my hair is very loose and my edges are very tight. And even though I sleep on both sides of my head they are two different textures. If that was the case they would be the same texture. Also my hair is finer on the top.
@So_Cato8 жыл бұрын
Beck Perry Have you been natural all of your life? I think relaxing and other techniques used prior to going natural may affect how the hair grows as well because of the damage caused to the follicles... We could be wrong and that's cool...I do notice that my body hair is different in certain areas.

So awesome I’ve learned so much from u. I recently big chopped. I’m trying to figure how to soften my twa and keep my curl. I may try moving my regimen order of applying my oil last vs after my leave in. My hair is so short, so I’m doing my best to get the length. From the root your hair looks like mine when I had the relaxer on my ends. My hair now after the big chop looks favors your curl pattern. I don’t seem to have low porosity hair (more normal), but I’ve applied your technique- saturating the hair with water before my products. Can u do a video on the bagging method - is it good for obtaining moisture and better curl? BTW ----/////// Your hair is gorgeous!

Doesn't low porosity hair maintain more moisture than high porosity hair? So, how can the dry part in the back of your hair be low porosity if it is not retaining as much moisture as the rest of your hair? I am confused.
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty9 жыл бұрын
umkish y Hi Umkish y, I understand how it can be confusing. You a correct, low porosity hair retains more moisture than high porosity. The challenge is getting it to absorb enough moisture. It takes much longer to hydrate low porosity hair. It helps to steam deep condition to get more moisture to it, but in comparison to high porosity it will not be as hydrated. Since I began using the hooded steamer to DC, it is improving. Hope this helps :-)
