This is very helpful thank you. My situation was the door was locked. After lots of unsuccessful research I found that if you open the top of the machine (easy) and reach my hand down to feel the locking part, at the bottom is a ring. You can see this ring in images of the WH10X10006. Just push it downwards and pull open the door at the same time. You can move the drum out of the way an inch or two to Bingo! Some videos have folks using nylon strings to open it - dont do this on this machine/lock type as you may break the lock/pin.

Just completed this replacement today....don't be "surprised" if the spring is not found at the "bottom"; mine was at 10 o'clock but all the instructions otherwise were spot on. Patience "grasshopper" in replacing the spring metal retaining band..coordinating pulling on the spring with your needle nose pliers while carefully fitting the metal ring in the rubber seal channel....."Start" button worked on first try. Glad I replaced it before it totally failed. Thanks for the great video instructions...for the cost of a $75 part from Amazon, we're back in action with our otherwise performing 8 year old G.E. washer (GFWH1400D0WW)

@@jubjubs1000 Well...now about a year later...the "new" switch has the same issues...it takes multiple presses of the start button over different angles to finally " catch" and start the cycle...me thinks it is just a very poorly made/designed part...

thanks for the video. i have a ge washer that after we wash a load a clothes and its time for the next load, the start button just flashes. i have to unplug the power then plug back in before the start button will lock the door and start the next load. would this be a door sensor issue?

Hey buddy I’m having an issue where the door tries to lock you had this weird buzzing and knocking noise in the wash won’t start unless I firmly press on the door for a few seconds then everything’s OK. Do you think replacing the whole lock mechanism would fix this

The way the door strike goes on it is hard to figure out which position is the right one. I have bad connection between that and the brand new door latch assembly. I don't know what else to do (besides going to buy anther washer. Anyone had that problem?

The video was helpful. We took it apart and then realized that the latch/lock works. We had to loosen the screws on the door piece for the 2 parts to meet up again and latch and secure. Now we don't have to replace any of the parts. :)

No, most front load washers do not have door reversal features due to the location of the door lock assemble.

I just went to replace this with a new part.. Turns out the bottom power connector fell out over the years off closing the door too hard! crazy.. well atleast now I have a spare part ready.

If the door switch is defective, the symptoms could be no machine functions such as fill, wash, drain or spin; or just no spin function.
