this guy seriously is a frickin diy rockstar. It's not possible to make a better instructional video - period. I also wish I could get on my knees like that (for repairs, ya know) even though he probably has a few years at least on me.

This was a very thorough explanation. Since my seal had not yet arrived I took time to label all the screws and put them in little envelopes so I wouldn't forget where they went and also not lose any. I watched two videos and this was the best, however the other guy suggested putting some liquid laundry soap on the seal before installing it in the rear portion of the operation and I found that to be very helpful. I brought my laptop into the laundry room and used pause while reassembling the washer and that was really helpful. Be patient too and don't get in a hurry. I had to make a few attempts to get the seal in just right. I also was frustrated by the position of that rear wire clamp as it is hard to get a screwdriver or 7mm driver lined up to tighten that long screw. The video made it look easy but I had a bit of trouble. I turned it over when reassembling thinking it would be easier but it really wasn't much easier. The seals really vary in price. I got mine in about a week for around $35 delivered priority in Alaska from Amazon subsidiary but saw as high as $210 plus $40 shipping, so it is good to shop around. The one i got was an exact replacement. Thanks for the video - I could not have done it without it. The manuals that come with the machine are a joke - we don't have repair shops where I live so it is fix it or toss it.

Lots of wisdom, lots of encouragement, and lots of love for us do-it-yourselfers. Thank you Steve for a wonderful and informative video. You are clear, intelligent, technical, knowledgeable and confident in the dis-assembly and re-assembly of this very popular GE Profile front-load washer. Mine leaks, but watching this video I know in advance exactly what I'm up against. Its very straightforward anyone can do - just common sense with the will to DIY. Pride of ownership and saving money are the positive attributes we all yearn for. Steve, thanks again !!

Thank you for this video! I ordered the gasket from Amazon ( least expensive option) & watched this video. Did it myself! No male help, and now my washer is no longer leaking! Not gona lie, took me around 2 hrs. The inner clamp & placing the new gasket around correctly took me the longest.

Great video! Don’t know why people gave 👎🏽! This was very easy, step by step video. Watched it few times before I even ordered the gasket and felt enough confident to replace it myself. I’m very petite woman and was able to do the job myself after someone helped me move the washer away from the wall and tilt it up on support. Thank you so much, saved me lot of $.

My model is the GE GFWH1400D0WW....panels are a little different but easy to remove. The first retainer spring was located at around the 10 o'clock position and not at the bottom..had to hunt for that. And, the inner hoop-ring to hold the gasket in place needs a 7mm socket to loosen it to remove, it was not a Phillip's or straight screwd. Not much room there to get a socket in but was able to get it loose. Just had to fight it a little. And, when you put the outer retainer spring back on you need another set of hands to hold it in place. When you try to pull one hook-end the opposite side wants to snap off so someone else needs to hold that in place while you are pulling the end of the hook to lengthen the spring to position it back on the gasket. This model does not have the two water hoses through the gasket either so one less step there. Thanks!

Thanks very much for this video! I have a GFWH1400D0WW and except for NOT having the inlet and vent hoses in the Boot seal the process was exactly the same. Got the boot on Amazon for ~ $160, so I'm SURE you saved me the cost of a new machine.

"Easy" as you say in the video, is a subjective term. But we got it done! Thank You so much. Replacing the control panel turned out to be harder than anything else - wouldn't snap back on the right hand side. The cabinet metal was flexing just enough - had to bend a little metal to get the clips to snap, but it all went back together finally. Thanks for the video. It is clear and concise and saved us the $168 we were quoted for labor only.

My wife and I just did this same repair and your video was really helpful. Could not have done it without your video. The only problem we had was the dang friction fit on the water inlet pipe. Thank you Steve. Believe it or not, when I called the appliance repair person and asked him for a quote to change this and the water inlet valve, he said that we are better off buying a new washer. I changed it myself and it is not leaking nor am I buying a new washer. Thanks again. p.s. not sure how they still run an appliance repair business when they advice that you buy a new washer, instead of quoting you for a repair.

Slightly harder than video makes it look, but overall great video! The steps were right, it was just hard to put together with only myself. I would recommend that you have a friend help so you can line up the screws with the holes easier when putting the door back on. I also had to take off the counter weight to get to the inner wire but overall not too bad. I took me about 2 hours.

Awesome video. I just changed mine on the exact same machine. Took me 2 hrs but I was fiddling around with the ring clamp with bolt and philips head for a while. I couldn't tighten it anywhere near as far on as it was before. I kept loosening it and pushing on the opposite side to try and make it tighter. I ended up just tightening it as tight as I could but nowhere near where it was when i started. After I put it all back together, I thought I maybe should have put some dishsoap on the ring for less friction. I now need to do a small load and check for leaks. I can't see it leaking but we will see.

Watch the video all the way through at least once before you start, and have a way to organize your screws so you don't mix them up or lose them, and you'll be done in about an hour. Hardest part is getting the boot seated properly on the drum.

What a great video. It proved to me that my apartment maintenace guy was lying to me. My boot gives off black smudges. He told me it was too much trouble to change the boot and that if they did change it it would never be the same. So his solution was for me to keep cleaning it over and over with a cloth. I've been doing that for a year now. Of course this is the same maintenance guy who told me my dishwasher was supposed to be making an ear shattering loud, griding sound "because it was old and they do that". Anyway, I wonder what causes the black rubber boot to give off black rubber smudges. Does it disintegrate. Its over 14 years old.

wow! how much money have we wasted? do you all realise you tube used for all the right reasons is an educational institution for all. recently, my washing machine boot seal which I didn't even know the name lol teared up and there is a big hole. I started seeing water leaking on the floor and thought it was my sink. opened few months ago and saw the boot seal tone. oh! where do I start with this time and age. things are tight and you want to budget every little penny. all in all I have been handwashing my laundry and you can imagine my back pain. I came back in the house today thinking oh I need to start thinking of ways of buying a new washing machine. then a thought came in my mind; I should ask a question on you tube about how do you call that rubber plastic thing lol? 9nstead I got this gentle man and I got even more interested to know what he is fixing until he answered my prayers. you don't know how much help you have given me and the money I'm going to save. As a lady I have been a dare devil of fixing electrical work and I thing I should have done engineering or electrical course but now I know better. why did I even forget you tube has a lot of good information that could help me? my other thought was to find somebody who fix washing machine but the thought of coughing the amount was hard to swallow. I thank God for you sir and many others I have watched their videos and for sure you have saved me a lot of hassles and money. Thank you so much and its even better you have highlighted the screws to use. before I saw that info I was wondering where can I get all the exact screws you used. much appreciated and even taking your time. God bless you sir.
