I’m an Amazon delivery driver and I’ve had to do garage deliveries a few times. Basically I can open peoples garage doors with the app and set the package inside. Not only am I uncomfortable when I get the sense that the customers are home(or not it’s still weird) but when they already have their garage door open, the app forces me to close the garage to continue. So even though the customer wants their garage door open(because they are home, doing yard work whatever) I have to close their garage to continue. It’s a mechanic that I’ve brought up with the company who hired me(they work for Amazon) but there hasn’t been a change to it. Even if I directly hand the package to the customer, I can’t continue until I open and then close their garage door.

I was raised on gaming and I was taught that doing most things the manual way was way better and safer than relying solely on tech. Most people who play games and/or use technology know that doing things the manual way is usually better, especially if a particular app or website is storing your information. In the UK..if you are not home when your parcel arrives they don't leave it on your doorstep..sometimes they will try a neighbour to see if they will take it in for you,or arrange another delivery,or leave a card to say its at a local depot where you can pick it up.

Of course that's not a guarantee, but it would just make sense that if you're going to allow someone access into your house, you'd have a full range of cameras set up to monitor your home, just in case. Also, even if they did come back later, kind of makes it super easy to nail them considering, gee, I just allowed someone remote access to my house and now my house has been broken into! The Amazon delivery person would be the first person I would recommend to the police. Also, I'd almost rather they try to steal something when making a delivery, go ahead and put that klepto in the police dstabase if they weren't already. You have to have some kind of disorder to truly have the nerve to steal something when you know you're on camera, that's someone that just can't help themselves and so the police will help them for them, lol.

Dude so here's a fun story: near where I live there was an incident where a friend of my family got the confirmation text with a picture can that their amazon package had arrived. When they got home it wasn't there so they thought it was stolen. but when they watched the neighbors security footage they saw the Amazon guy drive up, set the package on the porch, take a picture, pick it back up and bring it back to the truck, driving away. He was stealing and reselling the packages 🤔🤨😕☹️

Ohhhh, this sounds like a great idea done in a really dumb way. It doesn't take the customer or worker safety into account properly. First suggestion: locked large mailbox outside the property. Second suggestion: keycode assigned to activate from the delivery van via satellite or similar, NOT a physical key (harder to mug someone for a van and when stolen, it's easier to find them, also protects the worker more). Third suggestion: regular route and assigned delivery area for drivers (so if someone is leaking keycodes for theft somehow, it's easier to track). Fourth suggestion: let delivery drivers take comfort breaks, give them time to rest in their shifts so they can eat, grab a coffee and go to restrooms! Fifth suggestion: if a driver hasn't made their assigned times: track traffic congestion via Google maps or similar, collate with driver data. I hope they think this through a whole lot more. I wouldn't use it.

A better amazon solution would be getting electronic mail chutes. For example, have the mail delivery person put the package in an Amazon Mail Chute (made of something that can't be burglarized easily, for example, glossy finished steel to prevent spraypaint from sticking) and every household will have a physical key to unlock the chute and a digital lock, unlocked by a code on delivery confirmation, to obtain the correct package. For those who say "a hacker can just hack the lock open", the physical key, only obtained by the household owners is the first lock security. And also, if a household attempts to hack the locks, cameras will be built into the mail chute to catch the hacker. I see one issue though... what if it’s something large like dog food. It would be difficult to keep tabs on the sizes of boxes and if they would be compatible with your chute. Also chute installation would be costly as you would need to buy and install a new door (or wall depending where the chute is) or cut through your existing door. None of which would be very renter friendly.

I think a smarter idea would be for Amazon to come out with an electronic smart lock box that people could put on their porch.

Easy solution. Dont put it on your door! Install a small shed/mailbox for packages and put the lock on that. Easy-peazy

If you order anything from Alibaba here (if you even are able to contact the seller) and somehow are lucky enough for it to even get through US customs, It would take like a month for it to arrive, sometimes longer. However if you are buying wholesale It actually can be somewhat useful. I know this because Im a young entrepreneur and I buy Wholesale on Alibaba from time to time.

I think a better idea will be to make a decent sized box that can be screwed onto your porch that has this lock on it so you don’t have to fear someone stealing our things
