You raised a very good point, purchasing a high-end watch should be an experience in life, for some people it’s a huge amount of money, and they may only spend that once on a watch which they keep for life, Rolex and Patek, and all the A.D.’s have conspired to make the purchase of a high-end watch as tiresome, transactional and unpleasant as can be. Well as the market tightens I hope they all suffer. As a watch enthusiast they have destroyed my pleasure.
@IsaiahTrollenberg3 ай бұрын
It's a huge amount of money for a watch. Period. 10 grand is nothing to bat an eye at for a tiny wrist object that we love. People who don't see it that way have a very large amount of money that gets them used to those high prices. Non watch enthusiasts (normal people) just die when I tell them I paid $500 for my Hamilton Khaki Field, imagine their reactions if you told them you paid $10k.

10:53 (Swiss living in Geneva speaking) Actually, one of the biggest challenge for rolex is to find employees for their manufacture. The Geneva region (Swiss and French) is way too expensive to live for people working in manufactures. Rolex owns a lot of land in Geneva but decided to go in a bi-lingual region more in the heart of Switzerland (far from big cities) so they can attract employees who would have never accepted to decrease their quality of life.

@@Pens4Life85 On the contrary. :) Rolex is generous with its employees. Issue is that Geneva was a more affordable city 20 years ago. Today the rent/housing prices pushed certain categories of employees out of the region, even on the French side people are complaining. It is not a "Rolex issue" but a local-global issue. Many companies are moving from Geneva city to attract more talents, like the ultra-wealthy LODH.

I also like you sharing that more collectors are turned off by Rolex ADs forcing us to buy product we don’t want just to earn the right to buy one Rolex we do want. Regarding the new factory opening in 2029 translates into 2030 deliveries. Plus Rolex could run the new factory below demand. I suppose Rolex can enjoy the current model, but it may backfire as Rolex continues to raise its retail prices that each collector may be turned off by prices doubling for sports steel models.

When people say "investment piece" they don't usually mean that it's a stock or a bond that will gain money over time with compounded gains. It means that in decades, the watch will be worth more than it was when you bought it. Nowadays, you'd have to wait 50+ years to see substantial returns with Rolexes. It is also code for: "buy a watch and make it a safe queen" .

It’s funny the comments people post. It’s like they’re completely clueless how a business works. Without margins, where do you think the employee’s salary comes from, the facility, the benefits like health coverage and sick time. I’ll leave alone how much cash flow is necessary for a retailer such as this needs just to operate successfully. It’s a pretty simple scenario. Find a watch you like, negotiate a price, and purchase. If you can’t then you walk away. Need to sell one, if you don’t like the offer, again walk away. I enjoy what Rolex offers as well as many other top brands. I unfortunately just don’t have the opportunity to wear them often enough to justify the cost side. Good video.

Don’t blame the watch dealers for buying from flippers… AD’s are the ones who supply the flippers & if a single customer is buying 2 or 3 submariners a year they must know they are not buying them to wear… Rolex do employ mystery shoppers to try to stop this practise but it’s obviously not working very well…. Once the prices get back to normal the flippers will all vanish overnight along with half of the so called dealers who know nothing about watches but jumped on the band wagon & made big money when watches were at a peak & people were buying them as investments .. time will tell… no pun intended👍🏻

Rolex aren’t reacting to current market conditions; they’re a 100 years ahead in their planning 😂 they wouldn’t be the most successful ‘charitable’ conglomerate ever if they weren’t. They’ll starve the market and take a short term loss (and I’m talking a couple of decades) for the sake of a long term future. They’ll protect the integrity and scarcity of the product. They’ve diversified their income by buying Bucherer, among other companies and so have no expedited need of revenue from watch sales in a failing market. Video is massively short sighted and way off the mark.

Sold Charlie my GMT rootbeer recently would have liked more money but was a fair offer. They have to make money at the end of the day. Was an easy transaction and paid instantly, dealers have to sit on them as well so they have risks. Thanks Charlie 👍

Just was in Berlin, Prague and Iceland in the last 2 weeks. Berlin: no Rolexes for sale. Iceland: no Rolexes for sale. Prague was a different story. Two ADs had high end Rolexes for sale. Gold Yacht Master on Oysterflex; Gold Sky-Dweller on Oysterflex; and some other gold models. One dealer told me they "always order" for off the street walk ins. I passed on those models which would depreciate big time instantly. Thanks for your excellent videos and market analysis.

This is the trend we’re experiencing mate, it’s only the big gold pieces they struggle to sell that make up the shop display! Glad to hear you’re enjoying the content, thank you for the support, I really appreciate it 🙌🏻💯

@@David-yd6ur Rolex are already offering discounts on their precious metal watches, the market has changed. China is in a recession and the US can’t get inflation under control. Rolex would have to go back to offering discounts more widely if this watch market downturn continues, do you realise watch makers are on Furlough in Switzerland?
@troisk3 ай бұрын
It isn't, they did it before demand got crazy 5 years ago, and they'll have to do it again. Remember Rolex isn't just steel subs, GMTs and daytonas, they have boatloads of diamond datejusts and precious metal models that are sitting on shelves. And now that the market is going down, people aren't going to buy expensive watches they don't want for a chance at a steel daytona. A white gold sub LB is 35% off on the grey market vs MSRP - if you're an AD carrying one, good luck selling it at MSRP with no discount.
@David-yd6ur3 ай бұрын
@@troisk and anon The suggestion is that it would not affect the brand. It would, categorically. The buyer pool now is not the same as it was previously and hearing discounts associated with Rolex would be bad for business.

This new format relegates you to the other channels. You asked the questioner a question a question and his response was predicted. When you spoke to us directly your message was intense with no fluff. This new format wastes time with questions whereas you can just articulate your thoughts making every word count.

Rolex could easily boost production of the most in-demand models (Daytonas, Pepsis, etc.). But they don't. Why? To feed the hype. It is cynical and it makes their customers hate them. They argue they are at capacity and can't produce more. Not true. They could just produce fewer of the models that don't sell (those you can get from an AD all day long) to free up capacity. Nope. Just say no, folks. Also, when some watches are selling for over MSRP, it is hardly a buyer's market as Paul says here, at least for those models.

Hermes could also easily increase the number of Birkins they sell, yet they don't. Why? Because true luxury is about exclusivity, not over producing and pandering to everyone to make ale them happy.
@Nordic_Sky3 ай бұрын
@@samuelburton5576 Sure. And Porsche could make more GT3s, etc. etc. The strategy is the same: under-supply to feed the hype. No thanks.

Rolex watches are like hula hoops, bell bottoms, and yo-yo’s, but for rich guys. Once everybody has one or more, they will realize how foolish they look, and will start collecting something else. Flippers like this guy, albeit, a “high end” flipper, will shift gears with the market trends, while the rest of us end up with watches that we cannot sell to recover our investment. And , after all, a watch is to wear, not keep in the safe like gold bars or bearer bonds.
