I for one had not a clue about the different part names. You pointed out one mistake I kept hearing and was so lost on when looking for hooks. I'm referring the octopus or circle hook part. I love information thank you so much.

Octopus stype hooks also have a curved point, nowhere near as extreme as the circle hook, but with the point curving inwards towards the eye.

Here on the Gulf coast when I started fishing I was quickly sold Lazer Sharp circle Sea . I use them mainly pier fishing or long casting. I was fishing 2 weeks ago and an older couple were out there with their grandkids and came up to ask after I threw out my second cast and landed a black drum not a keeper but they had been out all morning with nothing caught and asked about my bait frozen shrimp which is what they had. They seemed frustrated and said they had been moving up and down the pier. I asked about their hooks and sure enough j hooks. Rigged them up with offset circle hooks and they started landing fish.

Great video Daniel I just received my order on Saturday of my kayak catfish hat and a pack of your 8/0 heavy weight octopus circle hooks and a set of your white sumo spoons. I have found from my own experience that if I take a 4” piece of 2x4 a put a slit in it and is it to offset the hooks more I have a lot better hook ups. I’ve used almost every brand of hooks on the market except your so far. My favorite hooks have been the whisker seeker triple threat 8/0 and 10/0 hooks at this time. Hopefully your hooks will help me to achieve a better hook up ratios. I’m always willing to give every product on the market a chance of my business. I also received your free download on Catch more catfish today. Thanks for helping others to understand and love our sport of fishing for catfish. We all are always learning on each and every trip that we take. Was wondering if you have a kayak catfish rod possibly coming out in the future? A shorter rod would seem to help us kayakers out in landing our fish easier. Just my own opinion. Thank you again for all your doing in the Catfishing community to make our sport better and better every day.

Great video man. I knew everything but octopus. So basically they are meant for a snail knot. Somebody told me the double action hooks you could either set the hook or just start reeling like you do with a circle hook. Is that right? Thanks for the video.

There are so many variables in cat fishing that a guy should buy some of all kinds of hooks and experiment to see which one has the best hook up ratio for him,,also every fisherman does things differently when the fish bites ,,and this will determine which style of hook will work best for him,,after guiding for 23 years on the same lake and taking people fishing from all over the world and then watching what they do when a fish does bite , I can tell you that having one style of hook ,,,your favorite,,is not a good idea for guiding fishing trips ,,I absolutely had to match the hook used to the fisherman in my boat ,,so my advice to anyone looking to catch a high percentage of the fish that bite while fishing is ,,buy a lot of hooks , buy all different styles,, and sizes , you will find that there is a good hook for all styles of fishing that works for the guy with the rod in hand ,, good luck to you all and I hope you catch a big one.

anyone, so only the octopus shank is one to tie the snell knot or is it ok to tie snell knot on str8 shank ? thanks

You can still snell a straight shank. If you do, make sure the leader exits the eye towards the hook point.

My question might be a complete video in itself, I apologize in advance... I understand a lot has to do with hook placement on your bait how deep angle of penetration and cleaning the scale off, let's say this is all dealt with. On a properly snelled hook do you prefer an octopus or a straight eye when using live bait for catfish opposed to cut bait? Don't tell us is personal preference we'd like to know your opinion. Same question on straight shank or offset , live bait cut bait? Also Kahle opposed to Circle for life and cut... Thank you

Great questions @Pat. I do have another video about hook types with snell, but here's a sneak peak of the info: If you're going to snell your hook, you need to be using an octopus (bent) eye. That keeps the line coming directly down, passing through the eye, and to the snell on the shank of the hook. If you use a straight eye and snell the hook, you're going to create a pressure point on the line that will break, and also interfere with the hook set.

Take all the circles and octypus things and melt them. Simplify. J hooks, shaunessy etc. They still make them and day in day out will side by side put more fish in the boat. Post all the studies and other b.s. you want, all this is, is a way to catch fishermen and women, and give folks a way to sneak in their fifteen minutes by becoming a yt expert.
