A regular inline 4 would make just as much sense as a v6 is you drive less than 500 miles yearly. In fact, you should be able to do without a vehicle if drive so few miles. Hybrids don’t just offer better MPG. They offer conscience. Being able to sit in a parking lot with your AC on without buying any gas. Instant start/stop when compared to non-hybrids. Regen braking so you have to do less brake changes.

1. Does the 2025 Carmy have steel knuckles or aluminum knuckles? 2. Approximately how many shop hours to replace new lithium ion battery in 2025 Carmy under the seat? I’m hoping the new design requires less time to be removed to get the battery out. 3. Does the 2025 Carmy have an electronically controlled variable oil pump? 4. Does the ECVT transmission in the 2025 Camry have a slush lubrication system or does it have a dry sump system like the 2024 Prius Prime? 5. Is the transmission in the 2025 Camry the PB12 transmission like in the 2024 Prius Prime which is lager than what is in the standard Prius? 6. Does the 2025 Carmy have lug nuts with bolts or did you switch to bolts like on the 2024 Prius? 7. Does the 2025 have a re-designed Two Piece timing chain cover like the 2024 Prius which was re-designed to eliminate the chances of leaks?

That's the new reality with the V-6 going away. Their main competition ditched the V6 long ago. And anybody who wants a manual can forget that too. And if you hate clunky touch screens with critical functions buried two screens deep, good luck. I'm hoping "user friendly", "ergonomic" and "controls fall easily to hand" becomes a thing again in the future. Just because something is technically feasible doesn't make it a good idea. Touch screens are good for some things, but not everything. No wonder we need lane keeping assist. People are too busy trying to toggle a button the size of a Chicklett to bump their HVAC fan and temperature up (one degree at a time), or into the second layer of display to turn on seat heaters (Hyundai Ionic 5).

Only 14 percent of Camry buyers purchase a hybrid. Now going 100 percent hybrid is risky. No gas hood struts is not good either using the prop rod is not good. Toyota needs a performance Camry maybe a hybrid max or a turbo charged engine option. This gen 9 Camry is a heavy refresh the interior is really good and updated. What is missing is choices like a regular gasoline engine option. Toyota is also missing a normal transmission, and Toyota so far only has 4 models of Camry when they usually have 10 different models. Lets hope Toyota has not forgot its reliability in this model. Toyota Camry cars are known to go to over 300k miles. I see them in service all the time.

Complaint number 6: The glass house is not new. So it is still short on rear leg room, and it makes the car look so 2018 from 3/4 view. This makes the Accord a more appealing alternative IMHO.
@barbarafleece377
@barbarafleece377 21 күн бұрын
Redesign? The new 2025 Camry should be referred to as a “refresh.” Yes, they put a different interior in it and the front facia as well as the trunk area has been changed. However, the car uses the same platform that the Camry has used since 2018. The doors, the roof and all the glass are the same from 2018 as well as the suspension and gasoline engine. Being only hybrid means that it is heavier than its gas counterpart. The extra torque from the electric motor is used up to a degree by the extra weight. You will get better fuel mileage in town. However, on the highway the battery does not have enough energy density to run the electric motors and so the gas motor has to kick in equaling no highway mileage benefits over the old gas only version. With a lithium ion battery its efficiency drops drastically in cold weather. With the added cost upfront plus having to change the battery after 8 to 10 years of use and also having to maintain two separate cooling systems, overtime does it really save you money???Personally, I would like a choice between gas or hybrid. Honda still offers that with their Accord. There is definitely going to be people switching over to Honda over this issue.

I have been skeptical of new technology. For Toyota this is not new. Prior to this generation Toyota did not really offer anything I was interested in. Hybrid or otherwise. I traded in a 2022 Civic sport touring with only 17.000 miles for the new Camry. I love that Civic. I love that Bose sound system. And I especially love the way that car handled over the Ortega highway. But the seat was a little uncomfortable on long trips. And I had become less confident in the longevity of the 1.5 turbo. With 5 years left in the workforce I will have it paid off. Im hoping it will last another 10 years or more so i won't need to buy into the new laws going into effect for 2026 and beyond model automobiles. That includes. Government accessible cameras to watch occupants. Government accessible microphones to listen to occupants. Installed algorithms to monitor drivers. And a government accessible kill switch.

It looks better inside and out, but I think it's over complicated. They could've just built it like a volt with the gas motor just acting as a generator and only electric motors powering the wheels.
@djplonghead5403
@djplonghead5403 Ай бұрын
That would be a waste. The volts were very expensive because you had a giant battery for the 30 miles of range and a generator to make electricity for the motors from the engine. This is actually a much more complicated than Toyotas hybrids systems. In this hybrid the starter motor and main drive motor are part of the transmission and are not only much more reliable than the volt but also more efficient. For AWD you just add a small motor to the rear wheels. The volt is more similar to a Prius prime.
@kdubb81

@@djplonghead5403 I don't like the way hybrids drive. Id rather have a gas motor act just as a generator and have only the electric motor driving the wheels. It would drive a lot better. I'm sure many people would agree with me.
@djplonghead5403
@djplonghead5403 Ай бұрын
@@kdubb81 But then if you want a powerful vehicle you have to have powerful motors and an equally powerful generator to get that electricity if the battery is low. With a hybrid, you can have both forms medicine in terms of power but get a good end result. The volt was so expensive because of this. If you want a 300 HP car then you need motors that can put out 300 HP AND an engine capable of generating the power to power those 300 HP motors. In A hybrid you can have a 100 HP motor and a 200 HP engine.

@raidernationcali
@raidernationcali 21 күн бұрын
Not being sarcastic here. But can you help me understand a hybrid?
@escheidl
@escheidl 21 күн бұрын
@@raidernationcali Most anti-hybrid people hate them because they think they add unnecessary complexity. Speaking in this case of the Camry hybrid, they actually have fewer moving parts than their straight ICE counterparts. For one, they don’t have an 8 speed transmission with all the gears, bearings, hydraulics and torque converter that goes along with it. Or even a manual transmission with a clutch for that matter. They also don’t have a starter or an alternator. And unlike a straight ICE car, they don’t have any external drive belts or pully’s to maintain. The A/C is electric just like the one in your refrigerator that lasts 20+ years and it doesn’t interfere with or bog down the engine with use. The electric motors, there are two, are contained within the transaxle and are sealed, brushless units, designed to be maintenance free for a million miles. One motor spins the ICE to life and regulates the output to the transaxle through a small planetary gear setup. (that’s the eCVT) And the other electric motor drives the wheels and also provides regenerative braking that gives free energy back to the battery and greatly reduces wear and tear on the brakes. This is all controlled by an inverter that manages the electricity going to and from the battery. The electric assist to the engine greatly reduces wear and tear on it by carrying much of the load and allowing it to sit idle some of the time while the electric motor carries the load. This is all accomplished with a smooth, non jerky power transition (no rowing through gears) much like that of a jet, boat, or airplane. This further reduces wear on the CV joints and axles and the power is quick and responsive. There’s no reason why a Toyota Hybrid system, properly maintained can’t go 300k+ just as good or better than any other ICE Toyota can. And maintenance on Toyota’s hybrids is actually less than the maintenance on the ICE cars. So now that brings me to the elephant in the room. The battery. The new batteries Toyota is using in the Camry for the last few years are Li-Ion now instead of the old NiMH. If you remember at all the first battery operated power tools that used the NiMH chemistry, you’ll recall that getting 5 to 6 years of use out of the batteries was about it. When they switched to Li-Ion technology the lifespan of the batteries greatly improved. I have some that are 14 years old still going strong. Now it has been common for Toyota’s hybrids with the old NiMH technology to last 14-15 years before needing a new battery. With the new Li-Ion battery packs it would not be unreasonable to expect 20+ years out of the battery. And while hybrid’s may have a battery that will need to be replaced at some point to the tune of maybe $7,000, it doesn’t have that 8 speed transmission that the ICE Camry’s have that also costs $7,000 to replace. Transmissions also don’t last forever either. So it’s a wash. And in the end, the hybrid Camry’s engine and drivetrain will have received much less abuse through its smooth transition of power and less time of the engine running. So as for me, I won’t be running back to the ICE machines anytime soon.
@escheidl
@escheidl 21 күн бұрын
@@raidernationcali I didn't even mention the fuel savings. Over the course of 300k miles. if the car you are driving averages 45 mpg, at $3.50 gal. you will save approximately $8,500 verses a car that averages 33 mpg. Raise the cost per gallon to $5.00 gal. (highly likely to happen over the next 20 years) and the savings increases to around $12,000 over 300k. My 2018 Camry hybrid LE averages 48 mpg. That's "average." Under the right highway conditions it gets 56 mpg. In the city it sometimes see's 60-70 mpg. But my overall "average" is 48 mpg. But mine is the LE model and is EPA rated for 52 combined. The SE, XSE, and XLE's will average more like 44-45 due to the bigger tires.

@@raidernationcali Thank you for the kind words. Automotive engineering has always been a passion for me. I was designing hybrid powerplants when I was 12 on paper as a way to extract more efficiency out of internal combustion engines. I am 67 now. Toyota's hybrid powerplants are like a vision come true. I would only buy a Toyota hybrid though because they are the only company I would trust with this technology to go the distance. The Camry is their best example and the biggest bang for the buck considering it's size, comfort, safety, performance, and mpg. Buy new so you don't end up paying for other peoples mistakes and drive it 20 years. Proper maintenance is essential. Use only OEM fluids and change them at 1/2 the recommended interval to see 300k trouble free miles. If you keep it 20 years and say 5 of those years you make payments, that gives you 15 years of no car payments. If that makes you uncomfortable, just keep on making the payments and put them in the bank. If your payment was $600 a month you will have $108,000 to do with whatever you want. Plus the $12,000 in fuel savings (at $5.00 gal.) compared to just buying a standard ICE Camry.
