Purdue Grad here. Was a student and then CFI for the University. You'll be flying in the first 2-3 days on campus your Freshman year even with no previous flight time for those who haven't flown before. Really loved the college and Flight Program. Had a great experience and really helped set me up for employment at the airlines immediately after graduation. Good luck!

That's awesome! Were you an in-state or out-of-state student? I'm looking into different schools right now and can't seem to find any good ones in California, which is a serious bummer since I live here. :/ And if so, do you have any idea what out of state tuition would be like for Purdue? Riddle has the worst reputation in the airline industry for taking the longest and never getting what you actually need…and it is crazy expensive. Plus, they force you to pay $300 a semester to park in parking lot lolo…they only want your money. If you want a mountain of debt and spend years on their campus, then go to Riddle. Even the airline pilots who graduate from Embry Riddle say it was a bad decision.

I will be going to Auburn University next year for Aviation to start with my Instrument Training. Here is a list of the colleges I looked at during my search and ordered in category. Large School: 1.Auburn 2.Oklahoma University 3. Western Michigan University 4.Purdue 5. Oklahoma State University (Secondary application for flight program) 6.Ohio State University (Bad program lack of instructors) 7. Arizona State University (Satellite Campus for Aviation) Small Schools (tend to be expensive) : 1. Florida Institute of Technology 2. Embry Riddle There are many I did not mention but those are my top. Keep in mind all programs are relatively expensive but the most cost effective for me was Oklahoma University. I hope this helps those looking.
@LukePylypciw9 ай бұрын
Landan, thanks for the comment! Congrats on Auburn! I think it’s difficult to find any school right now with a surplus of instructors. I haven’t heard of a single flight school that would say they are “fully staffed” or wouldn’t accept more instructors. During my research, which was about a year or so ago, I found that Florida Tech was very competitive with any big school. One thing to consider is that certain universities will not let you progress through your training as fast as you may be on track to do. For example, if you finish your instrument rating 2 months before the semester is over, you may not be able to start commercial until the start of the next semester. Going to FIT, who doesn’t do this, has allowed me to finish all of my ratings in my freshman year. Best of luck in Alabama!

Riddle pilot here: 1) If you decided to go here, you will probably have to wait 2-3 months before you start flying. We have a good number of CFIs but the big thing is which campus you attend. If you go to Daytona, expect to wait a lot longer. If you come to Prescott, the wait is not as long. 2) Getting accepted into the flight program isn't a difficult task at all, it's really just filling out paperwork. 3) Many freshmen come here thinking it will be a laid-back training environment, it's not. It can be difficult if you don't put in the time and effort needed to succeed. You must be assertive to keep moving forward or you will "wash out". The cost of attendance here is also no joke. Financially, the only reason as to why you would attend this college is just to get the degree while you're training. 4) On that note, many airlines are starting to hire pilots without degrees so if you don't feel like spending more money, don't come to a collegiate aviation program for Part 141 training. Just get your certs normally through Part 61. The only con to doing this is essentially not having R-ATP Mins down to 1000 hours. You will have to work 500+ more hours. So either save money but work longer, or try to fast track to the airlines as soon as possible. I cannot stress enough how important it is to financially understand what you can accomplish, it's blunt to say but it's the sad truth. Although this may change, I'm sensing more airlines will start setting up private training centers which will fund a pilot to train then directly fly for the airline. Like many foreign airlines usually do. Godspeed everyone, hope to see you in the skies.

Hi, good day. I'm a 16-year-old Chinese student studying in a high school international department in Beijing. I'm now an av geek, a planespotter, and an aviation enthusiast who dreams to be an airline pilot since the age of seven. As you do, also want to go to a college or university for flight training and to study aviation. However, I'm completely bad at and do not enjoy math and physics at all, you know I just love flying rather than doing the boring calculation (in fact I've already tried to fly in a 737NG simulator for several times and it was like on cloud nine to me). I think I'll be happy as Larry whenever I fly. Anyways, I just want to ask you that can Chinese like me enter into a foreign airline in the future, doesn't necessarily have to be US but other western country are okay for me as well. And which university that has its own school of aviation (Bachelor of aviation or professional flight major of aeronautical science in aviation) doesn't have high requirements on math and physics for application and entrance and make you really fly from year one at the same time only lasts for no more than 3 years in total? Since my school is an international one, by the time I graduate from it, I'll not only get a Beijing high school diploma but also a Canadian's New Brunswick province high school graduation diploma, will that be advantageous for applying, especially those universities in Canada that have flight training? The country I want to go to for university for aviation doesn't necessarily have to be USA, all western countries are more than fantastic in terms of learning aviation there. I'm Chinese, so do you think it's possible, if taking that into account, get the chance to go to an american airlines after graduation from a college with pilot program? I look forward to your advice, thanks.

But I also want to start my own business with them, and an order for me to convince them that my business idea is worth implementing, I would have to look good on paper.

Part 141 Student here at BAKERSFIELD. Be sure to kiss some peoples ass because it is the way for you to succeed as quick as possible. Also, this will give you a %100 job in the school. I have been in my school for almost 4 years now and I have been waiting for my CFI initial for 8 months and it is no fun since you get to forget things! You will not be that proficient and you will suffer at the end because you will have to pay more to get back to it. The school offers a 3 year degree with your certificates and rating, but again, it depends if you kiss ass. Flight training is supposed to be fun and the school should support you along the way, but here, it does not feel that way. They only want your money and your praise. GOODLUCK on finding a good part 141 school. If I had a chance to go back in time, I would go Part 61. It may be a longer journey, but it is way relaxing and fun.

Embry Riddle Student GET YOUR PPL BEFORE COMING! I had made an incredible mistake thinking I could easily build my time from PPL to CFI while attending ERAU, and this has even been pushed by faculty. It is a lie. And do not believe that it will be easier for you just because you can apply for student loans to pay for your flight training. I was unable to fly until my sophomore year and then COVID had hit setting me back even further. I was unable to start flying until my second year of the fall which had my class courses and pilot experience completely misaligned with each other making it difficult to learn properly. I was taking Instrument and commercial ground courses while still trying to pursue my private license, which was set at such a high pace due to me being set so far behind with flight block rescheduling. By the time I became a Junior I had to switch my degree from Aeronautical Science to Aeronautics with about $20K in the hole with no licenses and hope to be able to resume flight training at a local flight school when I graduate this fall. PROCEED THIS UNIVERSITY WITH CAUTION. If you come from a Lower-Middle class family it will be difficult trying to (1.) Learn how to fly (2.) Work and pay your rent (3.) Pass your classes within 4 years, all at the same time. If you do not fall into this category then you will be just fine. When you do graduate and start working as a CFI for the University you are paid $15 an hour, and you become stressed with the workload of countless students and difficult scheduling (I asked questions about my flight instructor's opinions). So please just go to a Part 61 flight school and then find work as an AG pilot, Instructor, or tow banners. The only thing I will be getting out of this is a piece of paper with ERAU stamped on it and $90K in debt. Granted, I am thankful for the university for supplying us with connections with regional and commercial carriers at their career fairs.

Most straight up comment ever. I want to be a pilot and I also want that restricted ATP. Planning on getting my PPL during highschool so when I do go to a college/university I can get a degree and restricted ATP. But reading this my main choices were UND or ERAU. I was gonna apply to all the aviation colleges though. I just know the most FASTRACK is going to a 4 year for that R-ATP. So what you are saying is if you don’t go to ERAU with your PPL don’t go at all or just don’t go it all with or without PPL. Searching for a lot of colleges atm. I could do Part 61 or 141 outside and not go to college or do online but not sure how my parents would like that.
@HANKAK47 Жыл бұрын
@@pilotchase you are on the right path if you are planning on doing your PPL outside of the university. To them you are just another body that they will have to compete with and it is not a healthy learning environment. The industry is so desperate for pilots that as long as you have the minimum required hours with multi-engine and a commercial they will accept you. Do not listen to your parents if they say "oh but you will kill two birds with one stone by getting a bachelor degree and your licenses!". My family said that to me and I blindly went along and it did not end well. Outside the university, you can have a good relationship with a small circle of instructors who are charismatic and make it fun to learn. ERAU instructors just want to get their hours and push you out of the way. Incredible professors, but the flight department here needs a healthier change.
