Nice job on the review. Sure seems like a lot of charring on the wood cuts/engraving. As for the acrylic, did you not totally clean it, or is there a lot of "haze" from the engraving process?

Thanks for watching! The charring on thinner material 1/8” and 1/4” is very minimal (especially when compared to my 20W diode laser that has to go slower. On thicker solid material it’s a balancing act of speed and number of passes. When cutting up to 1/2” walnut I now do more passes at higher speeds which has help with charring to the point that a light sanding around the edges makes it look perfect. For the clear acrylic, that was my finger prints making a mess of it. I’ve done a few dozen cuts of clear acrylic and haven’t noticed any hazing other than on the absolutely edge.

For the antifreeze I would guess that it is in case of a power failure and the workshop dropping to ambient . I'm looking at one of these in the new year, I'm digging your review and setup.

Yes, exactly! If my shop ever drops below -20C for an extended period of time, I definitely have more concerns than the laser freezing, haha! Thanks for such a nice comment - it's taken quite a while to get to this setup, but I'm thrilled with how I have it right now. Thanks for watching!

The antifreeze is because a significant number of people, maybe most, put these in their unheated garage.

Great review and demos. I enjoyed it quite a bit as I’m hoping to get a laser soon as well to engrave glass panels for doors on wall hung cabinets. I didn’t realize it was so easy with a CO2 laser. Keep up the great work

Thanks, Gary! Lasers have certainly been a fun addition to the shop, although very distracting from other projects I want to do for the house, haha!

Do you run your business with this machine or is it a hobby?

Just a hobby for me. I’d like to do some repeatable items for Christmas to sell in the neighbourhood, but not currently looking to go beyond that right now.

xTool is perfect for side businesses. One of my friends used XTool F1 to sell handmade crafts at a craft show and made over $1,000 in just 2 hours.

That’s wild! I was just at a small town fall fair and it was amazing to see 4 or 5 vendors selling laser and 3D printed items with the laser folks also offering some on-the-spot custom engraving.
