Dude you're not too late. Peterson does make it sound like there is a bleak outlook if you're older, but lots of people go back to school after having kids or whatever. I've lost about 15 years, am almost forty, and back in intermediate algebra in college. (which is actually pretty good considering I haven't done math in over a decade.) Luckily I got a LOT done when I was young, so it won't be too long before I'm done with my BA even going part time. You just have to work a little harder at things until you get the hang of it, but it's surprising how rapid you can get back to your old mindset once the negative influences are gone, and if you can't get away from them, you have to do stuff exactly like what you are doing- you are seeking out better influence on your own. Like...I knew just how little math I knew before I went back and I re-learned all the basic stuff which totally prepared me for the class. Better late than never. Doing nothing gets you nowhere. Don't despair. If you want another really good motivational speaker- just look for the "cut the bulkshkt" vet tv video. I think it's exactly the kind of thing a lot of people need to hear whether they are veterans or not. Speaking of which, I need to quit screwing around on KZbin and go work on homework. Oh one other thing-if you go back or are going back to school, I bet you have a totally different attitude about it, seeing it for the gift that it is instead of thinking of it as some crappy thing you have to do. I'm looking forward to taking full advantage of all kinds of things the university offers- like..I'm so excited that I get to have access to books and scientific papers.. What I'm getting at is I am a much happier person if I am greatful for things. And be greatful for your health. Everyone takes that for granted until you get sick and addiction is a sickness. You were severely chronically ill for five years. Appreciate the fact that you've got your health back. God bless.

I have discovered Jordan Peterson a couple of months ago and the man is so inspiring. In a season of time, he is a hero and desperately trying to help people lift from the mundane and desperation that life has at times. So good that he says what is happening in universities and other areanas. Thank you, Prof Peterson, I wish there was some way to meet you and thank you personally, such an inspiring man.

I’ve reached a point in my life where I have to convince myself every day that my life is worth continuing. It can be so easy to sink into a hole when your life feels like decades of failure. I only found Jordan Peterson’s talks a little over a week ago and every bit of his media I consume gives me hope. I know the only person that can get me out of this is me, and I’m very glad that there’s a man like JP in the world to help me every step of the way. My eyes are red with tears from how hard his talks hit home but it’s all truth I needed to hear. I doubt Jordan will ever read this but thank you so much for being a father figure to a generation.

Good on you man. A few years back I was at the lowest rock bottom of my life. I was 19. I thought no one cared for me. I went through a list of everyone... For a week I really considered ending it. Even my one year old son at the time wouldn't care. Not today. Not for a few years... But 10, 20, 30 years down the line it would really affect him and I didn't want to leave him like that. My only other option was to become a better person. Its a tough journey man. I won't say it hasn't been. Its been six years this December. But it sure as hell has been worth it. I wish you the best. Keep hold of that hope. Month by month and year by year you'll look back at this moment and be amazed at how far you come.

7:49 I cried as I laughed with this guy and maybe he was crying too because what the professor said was so true; it's like being crushed by nihilism and hopelessness for so long, suffering for it, and finally seeing some kind of light to aim for, like being saved, and it's so so relieving that I can't help but weep with regret and joy for my wasted past and for the potential of the future. I wish so badly that I could've heard this when I went to school. That part of my life is done, but I'm still young (24) and I finally know what to do with myself. I will struggle with all my soul for the rest of my life on behalf of the good because it seems as apparent to me as it is to Dr. Peterson that there's nothing more meaningful or useful in combating the tragedy of life to do so. If my opinions can provide you some additional support or confirmation, I can say reading good books does make a significant difference. It's hard to describe how reading the words written by individuals (alive or dead) who invested their time to appropriately inspire, teach, and support others who they may never meet, coach, or be able pass on knowledge to within their sphere of influence or lifetimes. Additionally, if you stumble after this, the time spent in recovery to stand back up is never wasted. Understand and learn from your experiences, which will propel you forward. Learning never ends. As example, I am pursuing another degree to expand myself further to take myself to better place. I wish you the best as you strive to achieve the better place in your path. 👍

I was about to give up because no matter how kind you are. People you care still decides to hurt you. I am alone and don't have any real one to share my pain. My family doesn't care about me except if I accomplish something that they can brag to other people. This video made me want to still keep going despite the unmotivated and lonely days. It is to struggle for me. For me to continue to walk in this chaotic world with such kindness, but with greater power.

People probably don’t intend to hurt you (hopefully very rarely do). The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Recently went through a very trying time with so many close friends and family, I’m glad I understand through this kind of information, that firstly you are not in control of other peoples treatment of you treatment of you. Quite likely they are “pushing you to do what’s best for you”, becomes a problem when they can’t allow you to be you, without conditions to their love or attention.

When you feel like giving up...well don't. They teach you the very same thing in the military. Thanks Jordan for this other piece of wisdom.
