The only 'Talking Watches' show these days that makes me stop whatever I'm doing and watch it in its entirety with a smile on my face. Thank you for that, Tim and Jack... 🙏

Guys, make this happen often and always - even if on zoom. Not enough of you two. Allow me to add, whilst we all enjoy the content from the other creators, we need the academic side explored also, which alot of us rely on both of you for. Great vid. Thanks

The Otsuka Lotec No. 6 29:00 is just crazy. It sells only in Japan for about $2,800 but at a Phillips auction in Hong Kong it went for $60,000.

"Swap the platinum" 26:15 Although platinum is marketed as the more expensive metal, it's actually almost a third the price of gold, at around $940/oz vs. gold at $2600/oz on the current futures market. Platinum may be more difficult to work with which adds labor cost, but based on pure material cost alone, platinum watches should be less expensive than gold watches. The difference in pricing is mostly due to marketing. And even if you switch out steel for platinum in the watch, you're only saving a few thousand dollars which in negligible for a $150,000 watch.
@the1916company11 сағат бұрын
All of the specialized labor costs, time, and dedicated tools mean platinum costs more. Raw materials don't account for the premium. I think the new IWC is priced more for its aesthetics and novelty than the case metal's cost. But everything about an OEM watch represents a huge premium over the company's costs. I'm certain that most luxury watches cost only 10-20% of their retail prices, so markups are significant across the board, not just on materials. Best, Tim

Sorry to be harsh, but watch companies that follow the trend will not succeed, it will not work. It takes too long to design and build a new watch and if you're following a trend you will have missed it. Better to think to yourself "Let's set the Trend, rather than follow".

I still think that's a lot of money. We're all lucky to net that from a few paychecks once taxes, bills, groceries, and (possibly) 401K deductions are done. Best, Tim

@Mohjo99 I never thought of that. Damn, I hope you’re right and he’s not sick. If does look thinner. If you see his older videos he has more colour in his face and not as thin.

I’m with Tim on the IWC Eternal Calendar but swap it out with steel and finish it to the nth degree. Platinum is very nice but a superbly finished watch in anything is better. The Bovet has more features than my G-Shock Square! The Otsuka Lotech is such an interesting looking watch.

What's up with that beanie Tim? It's inappropriate. Come on ... 🙈
@davidjb367115 сағат бұрын
I'm assuming he's undergoing radiotherapy or chemo or something, but I'd agree some other style of headwear might look a bit more appropriate. I just hope he's OK though.

Inappropriate for what? It's a youtube video, not a black tie gala event!! LOL! Is Jack's puffer vest inappropriate too?? I think Tim's beanie looks fabulous!!
@enjoywriting82075 сағат бұрын
Obviously I'm assuming that Tim is not ill in some way? If he IS then different story. If he's NOT, then lose the beanie. I wouldn't allow a guy in a beanie to sell me a 500 dollar watch, leave alone some of the expensive pieces these guys are into. Come on...

Tim, why do you think tantalum will be used for bracelets more frequently moving forward?
@xtr109215 сағат бұрын
tantalum is only 200 on the vicars scale si i assume they just alloy it with steel
@the1916company11 сағат бұрын
It's not hard on the Mohs or vickers scale but it is challenging to machine. Like platinum, tantalum smears, overheats tools, pits, and bubbles. That's why it is expensive and challenging to machine and polish. Best, Tim

Can't wait to watch this always such good stuff from you two, but to record my own two cents before being biased, the releases that best captured 2024 for me were the IWC Eternal and the Studio Underdog/Moser Collab - complications are in and there's a proliferation of success among independents that's really fun to see and participate in.
