A friend has a MVMT watch (and still wears it). When he showed it to me, I saw something flying around in the watch and I got confused for a second - until he held his wrist still for a moment and I realized IT WAS THE HOUR MARKERS! Several (at least 4 or 5) of them had fallen off and he was like "Oh yeah, it's been like that for a few months now. They must have fallen off when I accidentally knocked the watch against the table or something". I swear I am not a watch snob but I haven't brought the topic up with him ever again.

The "hate" of MVMT comes from their representing themselves as something they are not, and attempting to overcharge as a result. There is nothing wrong with a cheap disposable watch if it is priced as a cheap disposable watch.

From the name, the logo and the advertising, they're clearly a brand/marketing lead company who are doing exactly what you say. Hey Watchfinder, something that should be noted about these MVMT watches (and what makes them such a ripoff) is that while their ads look sleek and nice, the watches fall apart in the details and you REALLY start to notice all the deficiencies when you get one in person. Sizing completely off from the style of the watch, super flat details, quartz modules that are obviously way too small for the case size, awful QC issues, subpar straps and bracelets, and so on. If these watches were $50 or less that'd be fine. But paying $150 and up on these? An absolute rip-off.

Wenger are reliable Swiss-made watches from the Victorinox-owned original Swiss army knife brand, made with really good quality control, worldwide 3 year warranty, service centres worldwide. You can even get automatic models from them for under $500. Casios and Seikos can be had for well under €100. I used to work at an AD of MVMT. I handled scores of them. Mostly while cleaning the display, because otherwise there was no reason to. While Daniel Wellington is way more badly made, MVMT "quality" don't fall far behind. I'd say one's better off just buying the cheapest watch at a petrol station store. Or at a Tesco. While Hublot and MVMT are light years apart in quality, they're just monuments to bad taste in their respective tiers.

Thinking maybe a Kamasu and a Bambino, or 1 relatively high quality Swiss quartz watch such as the OG Tissot PRX.

Nearly all fashion and instagram watches are outsourced blanks from China 3-15 bucks a piece with zero original design. They just slap their brand on a dial and sell it for 1000%+. Most of fashion brands even buy same blanks with little to no modifications. If you look at aliexpress, you can often find exact copies with Chinese brand on a dial. And quality control ends at Chinese factory where they make 100 if not 1000 watches a day and take market by quantity, not quality. You can probably ask to replace your broken fashion watch 10 times for free and still be ripped off. At this point you'll be technically paying much less for a Rolex on a grey market. The first watch I ever purchased was a Fossil and I still love the way it looks now.
@longlivegarybusey64092 жыл бұрын
Fossil watches were also my first introduction into the world of watch collecting. They are great watches for the price. Internally they are generally very simple and low cost which isn't a bad thing since they still get the job done. For lack of a better comparison they are like the AK-47 of watches. Simple reliable mechanism, low cost materials, easy to produce in high quantities, minimal maintenance required, and used by people all over the world. It wouldn't make sense for even the most die hard gun collector to say that an AK is a "bad" gun just like Fossil watches are not "bad" watches. They're simply accessible and reliable tools. But because of this they aren't investments and don't cater to those who want high quality precision components. There's no rarity to them or high level craftsmanship required in their production. Just the other day I almost purchased an unused mint condition Fossil watch from the 90's that I had as a kid and it sold for a whopping $40+shipping. It had the original box, all the papers, protective plastic still on it, and still sold for less than it did 30 years ago. In hind sight whoever was selling that watch got absolutely nothing out of storing it and protecting it all those years. So it really depends on why you are buying a particular watch and what you hope to get out of owning it. Hope this helps.
@andrewkarsten52682 жыл бұрын
If you want a tough watch that will last, one that you're going to wear, Fossil is the watch to get, in my opinion. They're cheap, and from my experience really stand up to abuse well. I've owned many Fossils, and my first one I got 10 years ago still runs today and is in my collection. I've done cement work, fallen on the pavement skateboarding, and many other things while wearing that watch, and it still runs great with a minor scratch (can't even see it unless you look for it) on the crystal. Point is, for the price, you'll be hard pressed to find such a sturdy watch, Sure, the design isn't as flashy or clean as other watches, but I'd rather have a sturdy watch than a flashy one. Not to say they don't look good, they do. Also, I just recently got a fossil mechanical watch, that's a skeleton design, and I'm in love with it. It's been running great, and just looks great. Not as accurate as a luxury chronometer, or a quartz, but that's what a cheap mechanical watch is going to get you.

Just as a bit on nit-picky aside, carbon fibre is specifically the woven stuff that was compared to a picnic basket (in my opinion, it can be done well, it just tends to look a bit tacky in the way it tends to be used), the stuff that you liked is called forged carbon, which is made in a different way. Not trying to be obnoxious, just trying to inform, if anyone is interested in these materials like I am

I'm really surprised they used a common Allen key for the winding solution on the Hublot LaFerrari. I would imagine they had a titanium center locking nut, waisted occasion...

Weird, I got into buying “respectable” brands after buying a couple fake Hublot’s. Bloody comfortable, they look accurate, had an ETA that kept the time just fine… I thought it looked and felt awesome. Unfortunately, the bug then hit me. Now I can’t really wear it… mainly knowing those are fake, and the Hublot hate hasn’t helped.

Nothing wrong with Hublot imho. Mvmt is a fashion watch brand targeted at people who just want a watch as an accessory. It isn't meant to be fine watch making and the people that would buy mvmt are not savvy watch buyers. To me, mvmt is like Red Lobster or Olive Garden. It is fine dining for middle america, but hardly what upper class, urban folks would consider a nice restaurant. Same with mvmt.
@davew88412 жыл бұрын
I've never handled an MVMT...but, it does sound rather expensive for what you're getting. My gateway watches were Parnis GMT's....and they were a lot of watch for only $120AUD. Still are, I think. I doubt I'll ever wear them again...and they live in the cupboard, in their boxes. But, I respect them.

I own a gold Invicta. It’s a yachtmaster homage that Rolex never made. I got it as an ironic piece but am wearing it right now. The bezel action is spot on, the Seiko NH35 movement is accurate and displayed on a transparent caseback and the golden bracelet between the lugs doesn’t have any play to it. The crown is signed. These are all things that it does better than my €1000 Seiko Prospex for under €200

I'm all with you about that we can do with more imagination part 👍🏼 However, I'd go for Rebellion's T-1000 😍 with its 40h and crazy design.

Invicta catalog is Big... Just ignore homage watches in the katalog but they do have a lot original design automatic watches that uses NH35, NH36, salita 200, salita 500 or R150 .. As homage invicta they are cheap and even invicta does not care about them.. You notice it in the quality of watch box if invicta is serious or not about the watch you bought.. Invicta specialty 44mm modell 27499 Is pretty nice and you can find this design in other color combination too... Sadly invicta store hate European costumers.. They usually cancel your purchases and give your watch you paid for to US costumers. My only hate is their costumers service

I really like what Invicta represents. The brand is not for me though i do owm a Pro Diver as a beater watch for work use as it is the best value of all watches period. But i love the brand because they know who they make watches for and their audience really loves them.

Great video! Its a strange world we live in where Hublot can charge $10k+ for a watch with a Sellita movement and Invicta has watches that have Valjoux 7750 movements for less than $700 (used). Now who feels ridiculous?

They(MVMT)put chronograph in a watch which doesn’t have any tachymeter on the bezel, its just an awful design. In the case of Hublot.. if the price will be same with tissot and Seiko I think it will be justifiable.

The Hublot thing is exactly this reason that it's a $13,000 watch with $150 bill now Nico doesn't give them credit for material use and design and they're pretty cutting-edge they were the first to make a watch from a sapphire case and other such things but in the end $15,000 for a $200 movement no matter what cases did is a bit much if you get a bye in a movement by in a jlc

If they are ok living for the rest of their lives by scamming people by telling people that Mvmt is as good as rolex Yada yada well go for it. But for some of us that reached the top with integrity we can sleep well at night

Probably worth the price they paid for the name recognition and marketing that has brought in thousands of young twenty somethings who probably weren't into watches before MVMT's marketing intrigued them and sold them in wearing a watch. Worth the brand loyalty of young up and comers instead of older 'well I made it' customers. Always good to think about the future. They can always improve the quality, manufacturing and pricing issues.
@garyboyle6952 жыл бұрын
They did they paid tens of millions for it and sold Piaget to finance it. That tells you all you need to know.

At least Invicta started as a Swiss company and is now back in the ownership of the original family and they do have an option for a Swiss Movement now that said when they do get creative it's creatively horrifically

MVMT is one of many companies that work in the same way, a marketing company that sells this or that rather than a company that sells this or that and then has to market them. Although you could say that about Rolex too, except Rolex’s this or that is a Rolex.
