I never thought I'd like the F-91W, or any digital watch for that matter. I only bought one during COVID when I was working at home, without a shirt on because Phoenix gets hot, and I felt weird wearing a nicer watch. I fell in love with it. So simple. So cheap. So unpretentious. It tells the time. It tells the day. It tells the date. The beep every hour helped me keep track of time. The timer helped me with my French press, among other things. I'd wear it to sleep as it weighs nothing. I'd use the alarm so I could leave the phone away from my bed and stop looking at it before sleeping. I can swim with it. I play volleyball with it. I rock climb with is. I can use it camping. Its just so versatile. Obama wore it. Osama wore it. Everyone can wear it. I never thought I'd like a digital watch, but now I love it.

F-91W stands on its own because it was proven to stand against the test of time. It sets the standards what a watch should be, the bare minimum form of wrist watches. Kids wear them, adults wear them, rich or poor they all probably had worn them at some point in their lives, probably at least seen one on someone else's wrist, its unisex, and the design stay the same for years yet people still buy them. A businessman, an office worker, a soldier, an elementary schooler, plumber, teachers, a janitor, the President, they all fit wearing an F-91W. It's no luxury watch, but it is the absolute, bar minimum what every human being should at least have on their wrists as a timekeeper. (Get a Timex Easy Reader if you want dials probably, if you really just can't stand a digital watch.) Until today, there are still watches out there, that might cost ten times the F-91W, and they still manage to have some form weakness, deficiencies in their design be it waterproofing, comfort, legibility, timekeeping, toughness, in any one of those areas. Yet this 10$ plastic watch ticks all the boxes. It does what a wristwatch should do, at a very affordable price. F-91W doesn't discriminate its wearer, designed in modesty, humble and simple silhouette, where it has everything what everyone deserves from a wristwatch. It's not overrated. Gshocks and casioak are probably overrated, but this particular model is far from overrated. They are rightly rated, because of how it had been part of everyone's lives even if they didn't own one. Honestly disagree with the watch being looked through a rose tinted glasses, take of the glasses and it is still being sold, and people are still rocking them as a daily driver in present time.

I called it my Dream Watch before I learned all these watch terms (GADA, beater, Safe Queen, etc.). It was the one watch I truly loved. The first time I saw one was in the early 90s. A warrant officer was buying one in the Army Post Exchange, while I was buying a Casio G-Shock. For some reason, lots of helicopter pilots wore the Speedy and I thought it was because they needed to. Turns out, it was just cool. Fast forward nearly 30 years later and I finally picked up an 1863 Sapphire Sandwich when I learned they were being discontinued in late 2020. It the best watch in my very, very small collection. As far as overhyped, I guess don't watch enough YT videos or read enough online articles. I don't think that it is, even though it is a very fine watch. I am so glad I decided to buy one, even though it is nearly 20-times the cost of my other watch. I simply love it.

F-91W is a tremendous lot of watch if you think about, specially in the social and historical context. The balance of functions and price still makes it outstanding. P.S. That applies to other smaller and inexpensive digital Casios like the F-105 and W-59, naturally.

@@Biriadan "you might as well just use your phone" Checking the time on your phone is significantly more conspicuous than checking your watch. This was one of the big benefits wrist watches had over pocket watches back in the day and it remains true today. "There's no craftsmanship and no soul" It's a tool. It does what it's intended to do and gets out of the way. "nothing that makes it any better than a smart watch" It's $15, weighs nothing and lasts forever on a single battery without any further attention.

I am wearing and appreciating my Snowflake today. I had considered buying the updated White Birch instead, mainly for the larger power reserve. But I chose the Snowflake due to its rarer titanium construction, its more graceful hands, its frontal power reserve indicator, and its significance in Seiko history. It also cost a lot less. It was the watch that began my collection, and I have no regret with it.
@nrbrown59852 жыл бұрын
As a GS fanboy I’d say that the Snowflake is overrated. But so are most “iconic” watches. The Submariner, the speedy, etc. probably all overrated.

One overrated thing is people wanting smaller watches, they think the diameter is the problem when it really is the lug to lug and male end links that is their real issue. For me it would be the snowflake in 42 with Seiko compact lugs, female end links and no power reserve indicator. Nice video. Keep up the good work.

Grand Seiko and Rolex have the same problem for me, excellent manufacturers of reliable movements, but I find their aesthetics bland and forgettable. I adore Seiko, but they could be an awful lot more daring than they are with case designs on the Grand Seikos. And the watch world just needs to take a Rolex detox in general. It's like a cult these days.
@rousseau3272 жыл бұрын
When they do daring, people hate it. When they stick to the fundamentals in sizing and proportions, people call them bland. With that said, what other manufacturer or designer makes watches that look like Grand Seiko, other than Seiko? Objectively the 44GS, 62GS, and all the Evolution 9 cases, the different dials, are all unique in the watch world.

Great great video. Especially about the Furlae Marri. The Dan Henri is at least equal in looks and quallity. And the founder has a better, more interesting story than the Furlae Marri. Only thing that lacks is the advertisement that Furlae Marri did.... That was brilliant were a lot of people fell for. Furlae Marri... what a brand name... I own a Snowflake and I disagree that it's too big - size is spot on for me, and I'm not massive. I'm indifferent to the power reserve. The big issue with the Casio is that if you replace the battery you WILL lose the water tightness. That's apparently an issue with metal on resin cases. That's why my first Casio was a radio-controlled solar G-Shock. Now THAT is a cool watch. I got it for under $100, which is more than the F91-W, but is the natural evolution of the technology, eliminating the one flaw in a quartz watch.

My take on the Omega Swatch collab: Omega has overmilked the Moonwatch and the younger generation does not care about Moon missions anymore. I was born mid 70s and still had Apollo 11 posters in my kids room. Todays youngsters don t have that. Now with the MoonSwatch they approach a new generation.

I had a chuckle because I consider all three of the given negatives given for the snowflake either neutral or negative. I’ve got reasonably large wrists, so the size doesn’t bother me. I think titanium is neat, and I’m neutral on the weight unless it’s truly heavy, and I’d honestly prefer a power reserve complication over a date complication literally every day of the week.
