To my knowledge, before Hermitcraft, Grian mostly did tutorials and creative builds for his channel, then soon before joining Hermitcraft season 6, he participated in the EVO server, where the players started at the earliest possible multiplayer update and slowly progressed through the updates as time passed!

Yeah, Grian did mostly creative building tutorials and stuff like this. Then he played with some friends on Evo, which was basically his first time playing survival after years. And between us, Grian used to be god awful at the survival aspect of Minecraft xD He famously stated that he doesn't see the need for Enchantments or Beacons, which he really regrets today lol And after Evo, or close to the end of it, he joined Hermitcraft 6, which was definitely a series of firsts for him. Yeah I started watching him a year or something ago, but then totally binged basically all the content his channel had to offer lol Oh, and on Evo the point of the server was that they started in the oldest beta they could get working for multiplayer, and then over time updated their world. It's pretty fun, and had some minor lore and a loooot of traps. Grian used to be kind of a nuisance actually and was known for playing around with TNT traps

Yeah, in the beginning of season six Grian said he didn’t want to be one of those people who always flew around, and now in season 9 he acts like an addict that’s going through withdrawals.

Btw the pistons door had to do all those extra steps because this was before honey blocks so you couldn’t use a flying machine (because of the piston push limit)

So yeah, basically for years grian only did creative building creating tutorials. At the time of the updates coming out, he stated at one point, he know the newer version of minecraft enough to join a server, so like some other comments said: he started the Evo series where they go back to alpha version of minecraft and play through the updates, and then when he was comfortable enough after doing evo, he joined hermit craft

the floating sand is now patched and ever since id say 1.13? yes grian was a creative builder before joining hermitcraft in season 6. he mostly did building tutorials to explain evo: evo was an smp grian was in and they start in one of the oldest playable multiplayer versions of minecraft and they update the version once in a while

What they were talking about after the storage system is what I believe was Grian's first SMP, EvolutionSMP or as it was quickly know as EVO, where he and a group of og minecrafters (many of which aren't around anymore) and a few that are still around like Solidarity, BigB, and InTheLittleWood (though believe Pearl also was there or at least did a brief appearance). And the concept was that they'd start at the earliest version on minecraft they could and slowly the server would be updated. I'll admit to not having seen the whole thing yet, I'm slowly working my way through Solidarity's POV because the Property Police shenanigans are amazing, but I know that InTheLittleWood draws a lot of his lore for Third and Last Life from EVO, which is actually what got me interested in it. As for who won this competition... no clue can't decide I feel like building vs red stone is like apple to oranges, but its cool to see Grian and Mumbo's early interactions. Cant wait to see next week's video!

Grian used to do a series called Build Swap aswell way before Evo became a thing. It was so funny and chaotic with his friends judging each build with a wacky point system.🤣👍

Before hermitcraft Grian was part of an SMP called Evo where they started off in one of the earliest versions of minecraft and had to solve clues to move up in the versions while building bases and pranking and stuff

5:03 ok so, it probably got patched in a later update, not sure cuz these 2 tall plants still have a lot of bugs. But, another exploit to make these floating blocks still exists. So what you do is, you place a piston, and extend it. Right beside the piston (use a normal piston, and not a sticky one) place a slime block. Now, place the sand/gravel/concrete/anvil (any gravity block) on top of the extended piston arm. Now retract the piston and break the slime block. You should have a floating block

Grian was a creative builder when he was the main builder for the server wynncraft which is still going today and is much larger than anything else grian has built

Before 2017-2018, he was a builder for a server and was doing videos of little hacks and builds. In 2017, (I think) he started the Evolution server. Now, he started doing building in survival. This was still different to normal Minecraft, as almost everybody knows, this was played on the early stages of Minecraft. He joined hermitcraft 6 around 2018, building normally on survival. This was when he started it. :D
