A few years before this I was 11 and went to school with a Shawn Michaels zebra striped hat and a Shawn Michaels shirt with his giant face all over it. This was pre attitude era, I was the only one in my school who liked wrestling... needless to say I was clowned on so damn hard. I gloated when DX was huge a few years later but I couldn't live down that damn zebra hat 😂😬😩😭

This was legit why I really appreciate Shawn Michaels as a Pro Wrestler who rose through the ranks from Tag Team Wrestler to IC Champion and The WWF Champion. To the status of Mr Wrestlemania and had bangers with The Undertaker 2 Wrestlemanias (XXV) and (XXVI) to cap off his career. Wrestlemania X Ladder IC match with Scott Hall. The Hall of Fame at Wrestlemania XXVII. 2 time Royal Rumble (1995-96) winner back to back is a feat as well. Also founder of D-Generation-X.

Shawn's Barber Shop heel turn is actually the 1st heel turn I remember. I was 10 years old and a huge Rockers fan. KAYFABE was very real for me at the time. I thought Shawn scared Marty for life and Jake killed Randy with a Cobra.......😂 lol those were the days.

Funnily enough, Jake shared a backstage story where Randy kept on asking to let his snake bite him, because Randy wanted to know what it felt like. Jake was like "Sure, but don't get mad at me if it hurts a lot" and the snake eventually bit Randy, and predictably Randy started cursing like, "Ouch sonofabitch! Godamnit!" It's really funny considering how reserved Jake was and how bombastic Randy was, just imagining a conversation between the two is funny.

Shawn and Scott Hall were the main two pushing behind the scenes for the company to move in the direction that later become ‘The Attitude Era’ spearheaded by Steve Austin. They saw that the whole cartoony product wasn’t working as seen by the movement in ECW, Shawn and Scott pushed Vince to push an edgier style that was filled with more realism.

100 percent. The intrigue and heat it brought wasn't about Shawn going over again blah blah blah. It made the WWF as a whole more interesting because the predictable outcome got shat on and we knew we were in store for a new era. There's about 25-30 other matches in 97 where I think they got the outcome wrong but this to me is not one of them

When I started watching in the year 2000 Shawn was retired but I had a lot of wrestling tapes with him on them and it always felt like ancient history and that he was much older than he really was. Segments of this interview were spliced into Best of Mania 1-14 but I’m glad to see the full context of these interviews as I never seen them until now. WrestlingBios, you’re doing an incredible job on these and every one of your projects that you seamlessly pump out and I appreciate the hell out of you for being entertaining in your own right!

I agree with Shawn’s sentiment about the Intercontinental Championship and how you could argue it was the more prestigious belt in WWF especially because it was the workhorse belt. I wish you could still make that argument today. And I know you weren’t trying to make light of his Royal Rumble win just that if the time between entries was the normal time it usually is it would be an even more amazing feat to be number one and win overall. But still lots of credit when you’re the Ironman of the Royal Rumble and last the longest in the match. Your conditioning and cardio has to be at its peak dealing with that.

With the fans getting warn out with the "white meat babyface" around the time of Survivor Series 1996, it does explain why down the road, Austin would become the biggest face of the company. He wasn't being the "good guy stopping evil", but more "I do whatever I want to do. If you back me, I'll accept your support. If you don't, piss off. But either way, I'm going to beat your ass", and it definitely resonated with the late 90s fan.

As a hbk fan this version of him is extremely polarizing. On one side of the coin the guy could steal the show with ease, was ahead of his time & influence so many future stars.. on the other side he was just a menace to deal & knew he could get away with his shenanigans. One of my biggest wrestling “what if” is hbk not getting hurt & having a positive clean run during the attitude era.

I have watched many old, rare interviews from the same time 96 /97 ..and he always says that he likes bret hart and respects him...One fan asked him who his favourite Wrestler was ...and he said itś Bret Hart !!... Again I know it sounds crazy ...but he really liked and respected Bret Hart !! Even in his FAREWELL Speech in the ring.... he only mentioned Triple H and Bret Hart and thanked them the most ...there was NO RIC FLAIR, Kevin Nash OR Undertaker...etc. mentioned !!! Bret and Shawn had their differences in the ring ...but again I think for Shawn the most important people in his Wrestling life are Triple H and Bret Hart !!!!

Thanks for your upload. I met Shawn Michaels many times during the 1990s. Quite honestly, I always thought that the reason for his single’s success was because he simply played an extended version of himself. Shawn was the only wrestler who had me feeling like I was walking on eggshells-if I said or did something that wasn’t to his liking, he’d get rude. I thought it was just me but years later, people told me that they had similar experiences with him. Also there’s history that Shawn put other wrestlers’ careers in jeopardy in order to better himself. Still, thanks for the upload.

I actually kinda believe Shawn about never taking steroids. He never a physique that looked unnatural, no acne, no reddish skin, never had a really bloated body.

He still says he didn't take steroids and considering he's openly admitted to much much worse not just the other drugs he took but what kind of person he was and how badly he treated people I don't see why he'd lie about something so minor as that

I do thunk he took them . But not a heavy cycle. Look at his physique at wrestlemania 14 1998. He looks huge.

You're dreaming if you think HBK didn't take steroids. Maybe not to the extent of others. But you just can't maintain that physique with the absolutely crazy workload and party lifestyle without them. Also look how fast he got jacked for Mania 14 and his face was definitely puffy in the weeks leading up to it, a common side effect.

@switchbladeserenade1732 perhaps it's because there are people on the internet who have knowledge about this kind of thing? Pretty sure Nash even talked about him and Shawn giving each other shots of juice. I challenge you to work out and get as jacked as Shawn naturally, whilst maintaining the workload and travel schedule of a pro wrestler, whilst also being a hardcore coke head and pill popper that parties all night and regularly gets minimal sleep. See how far you get without the use of steroids. Lol even Maven took steroids. Don't be so naive. And don't underestimate how hard that lifestyle is and what lengths these guys go to get to their absolute peak and try to maintain it. Anyway why are you arguing in the first place if you don't care either way?

I don’t think Shawn hated Bret at much as Bret hated Shawn. I wasn’t around at the time but it feels like Shawn was just rubbing everyone wrong and Bret took it personally and Shawn just continued to troll him even more.
