It’s annoying because autism helps with so many things. The more experience you gain in life, you’ll become smarter than anyone. The “common sense” stuff you don’t get at first will stick with you and you’ll be “normal” and remembering everything you’re taught in the snap of a finger and solving problems and creating ideas normal people cannot come up with. There’s certain things we strive at.

GhostbustersFan77 first off, not all in the autistic spectrum are savants. Second, I personally don't like the label because it's almost meaningless considering the diversity within the spectrum. I have Aspergers and the last thing I want is a social justice movement making a big deal out of it. That said, it'd be nice if it wasn't an insult, but I also could care less. I find it rather autistic of myself not to care about such things lol. I think many people in history are likely to have had autistic tendencies. Victimizing ourselves does us no good. Here is a glimpse of my growing 'pains' i crawled till i was 2, suddenly stood and walked. From early in primary school, i developed a reclusive/rejection attitude, did not make friends easy, went through primary with one best friend, another david. Had severe 'phase outs - staying awake but mind is miles away, mums voice was sounding like echo in the distance, maybe 5 min long. Was dead scared in a restaurant to get up from my chair to go to the loo. Stuttered on nearly every third word, including my own name. Butt of jokes at school. both levels. Couldnt throw an overhead ball, as in cricket fielding. threw under arm further.!!! My one love was creativity. Art, woodwork, sculpting in clay, at 15 (74) it was turned to doing my own oil painting with Hobbytex (oil paint filled ball point tubes) an aussie company, through transitioning between primary and secondary, i had speech lessons, for a th 'problem' all this i lived through. grew out of the reclusiveness, and stuttering, and fear of people, my creativity is immense, except not learning stuff that is usually designated as female craft, (knitting, crochet, and sewing). Building a shed form my imagination, no written plans.

Autism has both positive and negative effects, so it's not simply an illness. It's simply a phenotype, a trait formed from several alleles of certain genes. I know because I was born with middle-functioning autism, but proper treatment seems to have bumped me up to high-functioning. (I'm 18 at the moment.) Even those with low-functioning autism can still be taught to communicate using modern tech, such as certain smartphone apps, and if that is attempted, it becomes evident that they are just as intelligent as anyone, perhaps more in some cases.

My cousin has a son who is on the spectrum. She described his condition as how he perceives his environment: because of his neural wiring, his surroundings make little to no sense to him, yet at the same time he has an ability to see things from an entirely different perspective. Back in the day such a person would be lumped into the general and now politically-incorrect category of idiot savant.
@nevermore5792 Жыл бұрын
@@eclaire1748 It's about the support needs a person has. Nowadays, people usually don't use functioning labels though, because autism spectrum isn't really linear. Instead, it's more about the many different traits an autistic person can have, so basically, every trait is a "linear spectrum" (someone can be non-verbal, but can have no hypersensitivity for example, someone else can be fully verbal, but might not be able to leave the house for a long time, because they get to overwhelmed because the are so hypersensitive to sounds and light)

When I was a little kid, no one in my little rural town had heard of Asperger Syndrome. I wish someone would have told the people who were testing me for special education because I was slow. As it turned out, I was incredibly intelligent; I just couldn't find the words to say that my brain was processing things so fast that my physical self couldn't keep up. I've been HUGE into computers ever since my family first got one when I was about twelve because it gives me a social outlet where I don't have to be face-to-face with people. Also, Temple Grandin came to my college to give a speech. If you ever watch her talking, she's right on the money.

How old are you? My mom talked to me about Asperger's when I was around 14-15, and honestly, it made me feel a *lot* better. I spent my whole life with people asking, "What's wrong with you?" - to finally understand what it was that made everyone ask such a question of me, was simply brilliant. I actually ended up getting quite a lot of control over it, after I figured out exactly what I was doing that was not socially acceptable. Unfortunately, I feel I am starting to slip with it again in my 2nd year of College, with so much pressure in public speaking courses, but I am still miles better from where I started off. It really does get better. Also, there are some public forums dedicated to those of us on the spectrum- I might suggest going there if you need help from people who understand EXACTLY what is going on, and how you feel.

I have Aspergers, and my biggest goal is to become an actress. Seeing so many famous people with diagnosed Autism reaching to so much heights suprised me and makes me even more eager to do the same. Thanks for this Top 10, Watchmojo. It makes me so proud of being a part of the same cycle.

+Funky Pirate Thank you so much. :) I hope I could learn acting and even meet and get some tips from Liev Schreiber (in my pic), who is my top favourite actor. I really look up to him as a very varied and talented actor. ^^ Good luck for you, too, abd I hope you become a cartoonist!

I have aspergers. I've learned to deal with most of it quite well, I was diagnosed when I was I think 9 years old, my mother didn't tell me right away. I'm currently a 21 year old man in radio and I'm a musician. Also social events suck unless I'm extremely intoxicated to the point I don't care. Quite the inspirational list

***** I can see that. I still never ever go somewhere new without someone I know. It's; just one of those things I find hard to do.

+jphi1000 I drink 5 times faster than everyone I know when we go out, just cos I can't wait to be comfortable and not care around everyone else dancing.

+jphi1000 I couldn't agree more on the social events suck bit. And honestly, I'm quite a shut-in. I'll do whatever I do normally on a productive day. But other than that, not very outgoing hehe.

+jphi1000 I loved your post! My son is 20 and he has recently been diagnosed. He LOVES his electronic music and as well does not like social events. Check out his mixes..."Sikkday"...maybe connect? Thank you :)

Know that you being a aut means that your superior to everyone else that classifies as a norm, for even some of the smartest people in history were auts such as einstein and newton

My Stepson is a high functioning autistic, he's also an inspiration for many handicapped people and one is one of the most interesting people I've ever met. He is a top notch gamer (often being accused of cheating or modding) and an animal whisperer but above all else, he's the most genuine, kind and loving person you will ever meet.

Thank you so much for this video, WatchMojo. I was diagnosed with Asperger when I was 5 years old but my parents just told me that when I was 15. I hope one day I'll be a great singer just like Susan Boyle.

I've struggled my entire childhood due to people not understanding that my issues (neurological difficulties with balance, sounds, smells, light, textures) were due to a condition, not me being a difficult or lazy child. Now I struggle as an adult with prejudice. I was diagnosed in my late 20's, and whilst I myself had an eyeopener with the diagnosis, I've stopped sharing it with others. You distinctly see people change how they act once they know that you're different. I especially dislike it when they try to diminish and refer to it as some sort of "trendy diagnosis". Yeah, I LOVED struggling for all my school years, such a COOL fashion statement!!

I relate with this. I was diagnosed at 35 after being misdiagnosed as bipolar for almost 20 years. I was a little bitter at first because I have struggled so much, but then I became grateful that I finally had answers.

My 11 year old daughter has Asperger’s and she’s awesome. I love that she sees the world a little differently.
