Derpy Dinosaur I'm so sorry to hear that.my younger sister was 8 and has said she doesn't remember him to much...I don't know how much you would remember at the age of 6. I hope maybe you have some priceless video footage for your family to help you remember him by. I'm afraid for us we didn't have the technology of today back in 79 so we only have photos...how I'd love to hear his voice just one more time. Take care kid and look after your mom,she needs you as much as you need her.

+Ash Hudson Pretty sure it was written about drug addiction (heroin) which could certainly be transposed into Johnie's life as he struggled with addiction his whole career. Either way, it's probably one of the only other covers on the list apart from Buckley's rendition of Hallelujah that the artist pours actual emotion into the song and makes it their own. And probably the only real 'tear' jerker on the list

Simple Man is a song I treasure. My son was murdered in 2022 from the hands of his ex-girlfriend. He had his drums and guitars with amps set up in my garage. He would have my house rocking, oh how I miss his sound! Had planned to sell his Pearl drums and other things, just can't do it yet. The love a mother has for her only son, a bond that will never be broken.

Bit that always makes it real for me is: When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin', "Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya", At seven PM, a main hatchway caved in, he said, "Fellas, it's been good to know ya". It humanises the victims in a way that just talking about the number of deaths doesn't. It's probably not what they actually said in the real tragedy, but it's a great lyric. The captain going down with his ship and his men, just accepting their fate with one last show of gratitude.

Gordon brings this Tragedy and Sadness and the Savagery of Lake Superior(Gitchie Goomy) to life in an almost Religious way in this anthem and Highlight's solemnly the lives lost of these sailors and how important and truly loved they were by their families and friends and the listeners to this poignant tale.

@@leeeverett8497 it's about a father who never has time for his son, is hardly ever home and unintentionally misses out on having a good relationship with his son. Then as he gets older and his son moves out and becomes his own man, the father wants to see him more but the son is now the one who doesn't have time for him. @@leeeverett8497 CrimsonRush117 pretty much nails it. It's about making time to be with your family despite needed to provide for them. Make the effort to spend time with them because one day they won't be there to spend time with ever again. it doesn't have to be a father son relationship but in this song it is. It's also something to be said about learning from the mistake of your elders and not repeating them.

John Denver made two songs that have caused me to soak many hankies with my tears. Back Home Again. It was playing in my head when I was bottomed out and came a 1/4 inch of blowing my brains out. Fortunately I didn't . On a happier note, Take Me Home Country Roads. Every time I hear it I just totally lose it. Reminds me of my old home town in rural Pennsylvania. I imagine me and my best friend walking down the unpaved road, when we have crossed over ro to the Afterlife. Barefoot, holding hands, chewing on a piece of grass, singing along, telling him, well Larry, we have arrived.

Tears in Heaven is definitely a tearjerker for sure. I imagine my late sister who died over 41 years ago at only 2 months old from SIDS 09/27/1981-12/0?/1981. The saddest part is I never met her because I was the last born. Only my oldest sister, b. 1980, was able to see her. There's only 4 of us now I try to imagine how she would look today, who would she be closest with out of all of us. I ask my mother questions about her physical appearance so I could draw her. "Would you know my name" is so true, because I wonder if she would know me. Gosh, I know I will meet her one day as her baby sister. RIP Jotonel Sharee Shaw 🕊️🕊️🕊️

I remember exactly where I was when Eric Clapton's son died. In fact, I was about 6 blocks away and never knew what was happening so close to where I was. Thinking about it still puts a huge pit in my stomach. Being a father myself, I still think about how terrifying that child's final moments must have been. Because, as a parent, I knew the pain of this mother and father. It was just difficult for me to imagine. At the time, I was a young father. My kid was recently born and I was working hard in NY to support my kid. I could not imagine a horrific death like this for an adult, much less a child. It's funny, today, I hear about something like this, and I just go make coffee. Time has a way of hardening us to the tragedies that not only come, but are yet to come. @@maryloulauren8108 Sure, but I would ask you....What protects us from the depth of pain? And, how does our sanity become preserved? And, as far as armoring ourselves from tragedies. I don't believe that is the right approach. I would say that taking this position can be double-edged. You see, I believe that sometimes, and certainly not at first, but pain can eventually become one of the highest expressions of love. An emotional sacrifice that grows with time. I believe that pain becomes a badge of honor that we not only learn to live with, but embrace. I also don't believe that pain is an enemy. The thing is, pain is something that we have been conditioned to fear, so we never embrace or accept it immediately. And, although unwelcome at first, I believe that pain eventually becomes a stranger that walks alongside us for the remainder of our days. Pain becomes a partner who we get used feeling, and maybe even come to rely on some day. However, mostly, I believe that accepting pain is the only way to truly let go. That's my 2-cents.

Robin Gibb's amazing, ethereal vibrato voice will make anyone cry, There has never been, nor will there ever be, a voice like his. In "Rings Around the Moon," Robin's voice was at its peak. Also, the Bee Gees sang a cover of Carole King's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" that many who have seen the video have commented is better than the original. Their harmonies are unbeatable -- smooth, tear-jerking, and beautiful. Please reconsider.

Tears in Heaven is so emotional because Eric wrote because of personal loss of a child and only performed the song a number of times before making an announcement that he can’t even perform it anymore because it was way too emotional for him on stage. So all of that makes ‘Tears in Heaven’ very empathetical, especially when Eric Clapton gets choked up whilst singing it.

Damn! I forgot about that video. Epic sadness there. I remember when it came out when I was a teen. The song is sad, then you watch the video and it really hits home.

How is "cat's in the cradle' not make that list? Honestly that song is 2 and presumably 3 times the tear jerker. I remember listening to it as a kid from the kid's perspective and it made me cry. Then listening to it as a father at midlife feeling the same pressures the song references to the middle aged dad. I am not old enough yet, but I suspect it really hits a chord with older men too seeing the world go by without them and move on...

We were among the first to see the video for "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. I knew Trent Reznor's version, but Johnny owned it and it's his song. Knowing how huge Cash is in his influence and seeing him so frail near death was too much. I lost and broke down crying right there. Everyone had a similar reaction.
