Great one sided commentary. Rachel Riley has said that the PTSD occurred after Strictly as it left such a void after the show. Why aren't the contestants who enjoyed the show mentioned here. Doesn't suit the narrative of course.

I was a dancer until 25, juggling many things. I agree that there is a lot of pressures on dancers. IN my dats, weight was even more an issue than it is now, and I would say 8 out 9 were anorexic. But this is it: these celebs already have their personal issues, and they have not volunteered to have professional dancers' pressures. The pressure of the physical training is already huge, in my opinion. They cannot be compared to dancers because they are not dancers.

Balancing her work with training was draining and she got burn out? I'm sorry but she doesn't live in reality! She did that for 5 weeks, some people work multiple jobs for years on end just to make ends meet so I have little sympathy for her that couldn't cope for a few weeks. Graziano obviously had to keep he's mouth shut so as not to get fired from his employer. You can't really blame him for that.

@@fionaparry6042 several hours of hard physical training and a very competitive atmosphere that puts one under high pressure. Of course some people will burn out if they also have to balance work and a life with it. And they start training before the show by the way. Of course, I agree with you that some people spend many years doing two or even more jobs. Personal resilience is just that: personal. We do not know enough about her life to judge.

I dunno… I very much doubt Caroline Flack was warning us about Strictly specifically. Given everything that happened, it seems more like a coded message about her own mental health, which was probably not in great shape before she did the show. I doubt the TV industry on the whole has much in place to help those who are struggling with their mental health, so to level this at one show feels harsh. I still feel bad for Caroline, she must’ve been working so hard to hide the demons from everyone, which would only have made things worse and I suspect this is what drove her to end her life. Such a sad end, she deserved better

Anyone who has worked professionally as a dancer will know exactly how demanding and all-out gruelling it is to work in that profession. I'm not saying its an excuse for poor behaviour, but I think many of the celebrities who agree to appear on Strictly do not fully grasp what they're getting into and just how hard it will be. Even those who work in performance will never have experienced how much of a toll this level of dance takes on you, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It's no wonder there have been some awful stories coming out.

No one should be kicked or abused. Yes i know dancing is terrible hard and relentless to get it perfect. They often start dancing as kids so it takes years and years to get things perfect. So a few months isnt going to produce an amazing dancer from an adult that has never danced. Some people are naturally talented and become great dancers. But most wont. The dancer's on the show are apparently paid more the longer they are in the show. Which encourages them to make the celebs to work harder and harder. Which is the perfect set up to cause problems. The BBC should pay the professionals the same regardless how long they are there in the series.

It's funny how on the show most contestants when leaving describe it as life changing and the best time they ever had and are so thankful to their partners! Rachel Riley is even married to one of the dancers, but I am guessing that her comments were just a description of that fear of dancing live every Saturday, not an easy thing to do and I can imagine would give some people nightmares. I also think that many go into it not realising just how relentless and hard the training is. I always think anyone taking part is very brave but I love the transformation that many go through.

It´s a sport, that includes certain body movements and foot placement, not a prom or wedding Conga line. The teachers are professional athletes and evidently the gap is too wide for some celebs to handle the training and atmosphere. I can imagine Artem suggesting a side workout routine, to help his partner gain upper body strength, and if she had never been one to break a sweat, offense was taken. As to kicking her, it either did not happen or she stretched the truth about an accidental kick or foot nudge. Behind the sequins, it is a grueling program designed to take an amateur to a professional level. And I definitely do not think a pro should side with a celeb when their career is at risk.

I used to be a dancer. You do get kicked eetc in training. It is not necessarily malicious, more ike somebody losing their nerves trying to get you to understand a move/position. Strictly has dark sides, no doubt, but I also think that the dancers were treating their celebrities a bit too much the wat dansers treat each other...which is not always full of sweetness. It is a brutal world, with acidic personal remarks reegarding one's body etc. I sometimes felt I was a cow at a meat market.

At the end of the day Strictly Come Dancing is a competition and the professional dancers want to win, it is in their DNA to compete, they have been competing since a young age, so of course a celebrity with little to no dance experience is going to have a massive uphill struggle, never mind the phycological and physical impact that the training will take out of them. So it is no surprise that some of them and let's be clear here, a very small percentage of all the celebs that have competed, have come out of it feeling bad, having PTSD issues or feeling like they were poorly looked after or treated harshly by the professionals. Really though, what did they expect, a cushy number? Anyone that watches Strictly will know the hours of relentless practice that is expected and that is for just one dance per week, it gets insane when they have to do two dances and then three in the final. So yes I can understand some celebrities being unhappy with what happened and I can see some professionals pushing a bit too far in their desire to win, but that is the competition and if you can't handle that then do not agree to participate or if it is too much then walk away and hand back the money you have been paid. As for the judging, that I entirely agree with, it is ludicrously random with 10's being handed out way too soon and high scores being given to dancers that 'Go for it' but have not come close to completing the steps required but had lots of energy and enthusiasm, yet others that try to achieve success in the required moves but fall short are highly criticised and made to look foolish and then scored way lower than those that just seem to just have fun

Such a wholesome video- sensationalising these allegations through a ranking system, like you can pit them against one another in severity -_ I'm not au fait enough to comment on any of these situations with surety, but I'm certainly not going to be making a judgement based off of one side of a story with little corroboration ;)

So a few contestants disgruntled about being eliminated too early (which would suggest they were enjoying rather than enduring it) and a few prima donnas who wanted to be treated a bit softer. The attempt to shoehorn Caroline Flack who had much bigger issues than anything to do with the show is incredibly distasteful. She certainly needed a lot of help but it hardly fell on the show she appeared on for ten weeks to provide that. She needed it before and after she had appeared. Too many go on thinking it's a bit of dress up and a bit of a lark on a Saturday but if you want to do well it's an awful lot of hard work. No surprise that 50+ year olds who haven't looked after themselves find it tough going physically so whine about it

My take in this is… this show has been going for years and years. Most celebrities know each other or all share the same circle of friends. People talk, gossip and most definitely know most of the time exactly what they’re getting into. Dancers have such a military work ethic, they work like a dog. This particular show the ey have like a week to try and perfect a dance routine, learn new steps, timing and all sorts. I personally just think some celebs think the world revolves around them and probably get treated like everybody else by the dancers. They realise it’s harder work than they ever thought and frankly don’t like it. Not everyone is going to get on, there’s a lot of egos in that kind of environment. So it’s inevitable there will be drama. People absolutely know yet still continue to want to take part so quit complaining about it 🙄 There’s also many many celebrities that have said it’s the best experience of their life. So personally I just think some partners clash and some celebrities expect special treatment and when they don’t get it they cry like a baby.

I have also read about Caroline Quentin coming forward to describe her (quote) 'horrible' experience in 2020, the year that was wrecked by Covid restrictions, as she felt completely isolated in not being able to socially connect with the other celebs and not even being allowed to be with her husband and daughters in that narrow bubble, and thus called out the series for humiliating individuals and caring more about television ratings and drama than proper welfare of participants. In addition, Johannes, her pro partner and the only light in that dark experience, agreed with her that it was the worst series ever because they could not be able to live the best dancing life as they would do normally and their mental health plummeted dangerously as a result. Really important testimony from Caroline Quentin which exposes all the more the true nature of that wretched series 18, and by extension shows why it is high time to finish the show once and for all.

To me these are gripes from people who mostly got kicked out early. Bruised egos to me. Learning to dance under tight deadlines is tough. Some of these celebs clearly had other issues going on in their lives and have chosen to to blame SCD for it. Caroline Flack was battling demons and it was not the show that caused that. It may have made things worse being in a pressured environment but what needs to happen is that anyone wanting to go on this show most be tested for resilience first. There is too much projecting onto other people here for things that are not right in the celeb's lives. Dance teachers are tough and the dance world is tough. Very few reach the top.

"making cruel comments about her body" I think this was probably just a misunderstanding between a professional dancer and a non-dancer. Even in training before you go out trying to get professional work, you'll have to submit to physical exams as well as monitoring your diet (changes according to what it is you're focusing on that day or week) and if you're not building up enough strength, not gaining enough flexibility or losing it, or even letting go slightly of your weight and physique, then you will get called out on it. So in that sense, professional dancers come from a background where their image has been subject to inspection and comment, and they've developed very tough skin to take on those critiques; and I expect when you're going into their world "dance world", they'll give you a similar experience to make sure that you're doing things correctly and watching your fitness and health throughout. You need incredibly thick skin in this industry. If you're fat, expect to be told you're fat. If you're thin and weak, expect to be told you're thin and weak. Dancers need to be strong and healthy, otherwise what is happening is you're putting the other dancers at risk.

One of the issues I have with that show is that it seems racist and exclusive when it comes to music they play (for whatever reason). Have of the dances that they perform are Latin, rumba, chacha, tango, salsa, and they hardly ever play extremely popular latin music that would have the same beats needed to perform those dances. Instead they choose American or British music. I don't know that the excuse is, they might say that they don't have the rights to play latin songs, etc. But it is doubtful. I think almost any artist would be pleased to have his or her music to have a bigger audience. I don't know if the British are not sophisticated enough to know latin music or feel uncomfortable with it. It just seems hypocritical that you want the dance but not the song. Without rumba, salsa, chacha, tango, you would have not show for the most part.
