Water pump and Timing belt replacement

2002 Plymouth voyager 2.4 liter engine water pump and timing belt replacement, did not go through every step but you get the Idea. Cost 195.00 and about 7 hours.121000 miles on motor, should have replace timing belt at 100000 as suggested.

I'm working on one right now that just quit running , the problem ended up being the crack in the belt just like yours.

Nice job, they also have the printable instructions from online various sources. Did you replace the seals on the cams ? If not, I was wondering why you needed to take off the timing belt pulleys?

Why do the cam gears have to come off? I have to do this job this weekend.

If i remember right they have to come of to replace the water pump.

The motor mount bracket that is connected to the engine is easily removed once you Jack the engine up away from its original position about an inch and a half inside of a motor with a timing assembly is actually moves away and gives you more room. Also the alternator bracket does not need to be removed it might help in seeing what you are doing but it is not in the way at all however you do need to remove the idler pulley that is mounted onto the alternator bracket are you all noticed that when you start removing the covers I believe it's in the way of the lower one. And for God's sakes used to be correct three jaw puller to remove the crank pulley you're not use a pry bar or anything like that because you will damage it AutoZone will rent it to you free of charge you just have to buy it and return it.

Did you use any gasket silicone in a waterpump?? or just put it on with rubber gasket, which seems to be in a pump?? What is correct torque for waterpump bolts... and timing-gears?? Thanks, youtheman =)

No I just used the rubber gasket, and I did not torque the water-pump or timing gears, Probably should have, sorry that I did not have a lot of information.

timing belt broke. i need to align timing marks. can i just turn the camshaft sprockets with a wrench or do i have to take the valve cover off, loosen a camshaft.... to avoid damaging valves ?....

Hi Ron, I am just starting to take mine apart. I want to loosen the belt on the power steering and it seems difficult to reach the rear locking nut (before loosing the adjustment screw). Is there a trick to reaching back there?

+Oerstec Yes If your have what I do then you have to loosen the tensioner on serpentine belt, that is what keeps the tenstion on all the pulleys. hope this helps?

will the center marks on cam line with the outer ones str8 across

+Bryan C Yes they have to be directly across from each other, and the bottom has to be lined up as well.. a big pain.

Miles??? Mine only has like 80000 now???? Soon??, meaning waterpump?? Timing belt should be OK, next 30000?? no??

When I replace it had 121000 miles but I only replaced it because it came the kit, I had to tare down because of water pump.
