Water Vole at RSPB Fowlmere June 2024 4k

Watching a Water Vole eating some Mare's Tail plants from the Spring Hide at the RSPB Fowlmere Reserve in Cambridgeshire UK. You can hear the fresh water spring in the background. Recorded using the OM Digital Solutions OM-1MarkII camera and OM 150-400mm F4.5 TC lens in 4k 60p video mode using the on-camera microphones.

Great like video Bill. Very envious. They have been showing at Minsmere but they are often deep in reeds and I have yet to see a good shot of them. This is lovely. Do they show often ? Is this from a hide ?

@@rogerhance5883 Thanks Roger. This is from the Spring Hide at RSPB Fowlmere in Cambridgeshire where we volunteer for the RSPB. They have been quite active recently. Usually they swim out and back to eat these plants but there was enough vegetation this one could eat It in situ so great for photos. It can be hit and miss but well worth a visit, I'd recommend week days as weekends are quite busy - although we're into school holidays now. If you do Facebook search out a group called Friends of RSPB Fowlmere to get an idea of what people are seeing. It's a small reserve but quite varied habitat. We saw a water vole at Minsmere a couple of weeks ago quite close but I also found it not great for photography with the reeds and looking down on it.

@@macg33zr HI Bill, Thanks for the info. Never been to Fowlmere but maybe worth as visit. Is the light in front of the Spring hide best morning or afternoon ?

​@@rogerhance5883Good question, I'm mostly there for photography afternoons so not sure if mornings are better. It can be quite shaded by trees. This video was taken around 4:30pm. You are facing roughly south west along a channel.
