In modern windows the shutdown command is similar to what Hibernate used to be, the device saves it's state to storage and powers off. Sleep now means that the device is in a low power state that can still get updates and be woken by LAN commands. you can revert back to the old options on SOME(read very few) modern machines by changing the default power state.
@caleidoo2 ай бұрын
Just press the SHIFT key when pressing on "shut down" in the start menu and you get a hard shutdown. I don't see how hard that is. Or just put an shortcut on your desktop. The line with commands is easy to find. Just copy paste. The Shift key works on both 10 & 11? The line for the shortcut might differ slightly.

This may explain a confounding issue I've had with my GPU ever since I built my PC a year ago - I need to start my PC, and then restart it for the GPU to start drawing the correct power, otherwise it just draws like 70w and performance is terrible. So something/setting/cache is going stale over time by just shutting down the PC for the time it's off, which is still present when I start the PC, which is then fixed when I restart it. And yeah I've tried BIOS, GPU BIOS, tests etc...one of the weirder issues I've come across but this explanation makes a lot of sense for at least when shutdown doesn't fix it but restarting does.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. I turn off the switch of the wall socket every time I turn off my PC, so I suppose it "hard reboots" every time? I've never seen it resume its state. But then again, I always close all windows and programs before shutting down. Never left anything on.

57:30 - Ellis is referring to "Fast Boot" on the windows side of things. Session state is not saved when shutting down, but drivers, cache etc. are written to disk before power is turned off, similar to hibernating a windows machine (except with hibernation session state is written to disk). When sleeping, everything stays in RAM and the computer goes into a low power state. So we have sleep --> hibernate --> shut down with fast boot enabled --> shut down without fast boot enabled. Restarting is a full shut down which basically means fast boot is disabled for that shut down, and then a full power on

39:30 I think the other part of that equation is that the magic mouse lasts weeks, so you get warned for days before it is dead. IDK. its a weird thing, at least in my small sample size of folks I have talked to that the folks complaining about this don't even use the mouse because of its shape, and the people that actually use it, don't think this is an issue at all. For the folks that actually use the Magic mouse it seems the combo of it lasting roughly a month and it warning you at 20% means in reality, this is a non issue to the actual users.

I tried for a good year to legitimately use that thing back in the day. It’s bad, it’s always been bad, it’ll never be good. Unless you have child hands…. Even then it’s a maybe. The ergonomics are the worst part, the port location is just an insane nail in the coffin for people that actually have things to get done. So much cope when there are clearly better products. It would take apple two seconds to design a better product, they just refuse, it’s insulting. Take one ergonomic designer off the AirPod team (as if we need another minor nothing “update” for that product) and give them a week. And they can eliminate this whole issue.

I am listening to him never turning it off, and thinking "I didn't know people still did that" And yeah - you don't NEED to do that, I don't do it because I ever thought I needed to do that. I actually already knew you should restart rather than turn it off if you want it to properly reset. (A point I am pretty sure David was still confused about judging from his reactions) - ANYWAY! I moved away from my parents house, and found out power cost money, that's when I started to shut it down if it wasn't doing anything anyway. Also, you shouldn't just waste electricity for no reason, even if you are not paying for it.

TL;DR: Its an all-in-on connection method to transfer lots of data of any kind. Long answer Its a USB standard developed by intel thats intended for transferring a ton of data. Its not like fiber-optic levels of fast, but its really good at transferring a ton of data really fast. Its good enough to be a display connector to newer monitors. It essentially does away with the need for HDMI and Display Port in some cases, while also functioning as a fast means for data transfer.

I think no matter the color of your kitchen, YELLOW is the color to brighten your day. I don't upgrade Mac's often, but the footprint of the new MacMini along with the upgraded memory options, made this a quick purchase for me. And the grandkids will get the "older style, but upgraded" M1 Mac Mini. The original M1 cost a lot more than the same spec'd M4. By far the BEST deal out there for Mac's. And at long last, retiring the 27" iMac with a trade in. And for the record, I shut my Mac mini off about once a month. NOT an issue. GREAT costumes fellas! As always, well done.

The Mac Mini pricepoint might be because they want to compete with the Playstations and Xbox's out there, and potentially become a popular Gaming Console for consumers because of its size and performance. But Apple should bring a software feature where you can control the Mac, like opening apps and setting the UI in a Gaming way, where you can control it with just your PS5 controller or Xbox controller. Bringing a feature like Centre Stage would make the Mac approachable by gamers as well...
