I was unhappy most of the time and this discontentment was causing me adverse effects and was alienating me from people who I constantly judged. It took a lot of effort to put meditation as a priority. I changed my diet too and began taking a walk outside most days and journaling. It has helped.

Im staying with my parents to survive covid. We are getting along and learning. Ive been at odds with them for most of my life. Ive been listening to, and practicing the meditations and breathing for about 4 months now. Getting in touch with my own suffering and sorrow; attending to them in ways new to me. I listen to the book The Art of Peaceful Communication, also by thich. Its been life changing. I learn more each day. In breathe. Out breathe. I always start there. Thank you.

SuperSportFitness ... thank you for saying this. I’m about to travel to FL to visit my mother who is now in hospice. My brother and wife who live there are extremely aggressive and think Covid is a ‘scamdemic.’ I struggle with being in their company so I’m preparing myself mentally. I’m feeling very nervous and apprehensive. Breathe

19:31 really taught me a valuable lesson. I suffer from hallucinations on a daily basis, but understanding the emotions of fear i feel and understanding that I’m the only thing that’s real is why I live. Buddhism has so much to teach the world, and I cannot be more thankful to this man and the mindset he shares.

I was raised Christian, in the Baptist church...although I have always had These Teachings in me. I have always been drawn to the peacefulness of this way of life. Mindfulness, meditations, Crystal healing, gong therapy and Chakra balance. There is really no transition to this from Christianity, because love is All and All is love, if it is within you.

It transcends religion, it is a practice we can do even in our last moments. I wonder how many Christians today are learning this?

May I ask, what it exactly means. Does it mean always to accept whatever comes? Or does it also mean to have a broaden view on the current world. Please let me use an example: because I am I'll, I cannot go to holiday. I am very sad and angry. Should the proper reaction be: yes I am angry and sad and I am accepting it. Or should also be another factors be involved like surrounding sounds, the nature to see that this is not the central and the only point of my life. I would very appreciate, if someone could explain it to me. I am struggling with this aspect.

@1:00 Thank you for much for this Thich Nhat Hanh. If i ever become a father.you explain Very important points. Parents of mine was unaware of some seeds of suffer and it affected for a long time from childhood to adulthood. Til i opened up. This is a good lesson to everyone who wanna become a parent. If you cant deal with you suffering, u will plant the suffering in the child to. When someone makes me suffer i alwayys now use the power of compassion since we know that a peron who suffer makes other suffer if it doesn't takke care of. You are a gift to the world Thich Nhat Hanh. With such insightm or maybe some call it enlightment is lacking today in the society i live in. I see a lot of suffering and you motivated me to help people suffer less. You are my biggest teacher

i felt so alone. i burnt my bridges. i opened my eyes. i almost took my own life. i sit here under this walnut tree. this is where i met mother earth. i'd like to thank my family for not being there for me. when they told me they give up on me it made me blame myself. i let go of the hate i felt. it became clear. it was the reflection of me through their eye's. an image of what i once was. try not to approach people based off of preconceived elements. people cant change but when they change the world around them they can achieve balance i think.

At first person tries to recall his inner world and trying different types of practices and doings , but he easily forgets inner world when busy in world affairs. Then there comes a time when he will become tired of every practices and doings, .. and his sensitivity start to increase. Then there comes a time when his sensitivity becomes so deep that he does not need to remember his inner world but he will get reminder and messages from everything around him and whatever happening inside or outside of him. Everything drags him inside, and he becomes so deep that he starts to understand the inner language which is soundless and formless . Then there comes a time when he will become stunned, surprised by vast beauty , by unlimited joy vaster than any ocean , stillness deeper than any valley. Then he will see his face in the mirror and will be surprised that he never saw and met this person before and everything looks utterly new.

I have Thich Nhat Hanh, my friend James, and myself to thank for my spiritual self. I always felt as Buddhist feel about life... morals, peace, love ,mindfulness, forgiveness, non-attatchment,and so on. However , I never knew Buddhism (or much about it I should say). A trip home from Chicago , two friends, one of which bought me a book by Thich Nhat Hanh. That book tied together my life with Buddhism. I guess you could say it found me. Thank you ,Thich Nhat Hanh, James, Darla, and each one of you. I'm forever grateful. 🙏🕉

To this Group. What percentage of our time do you estimate that we are thinking either of the future, or of the past. When I posed this question to myself, and disregarded the time I spend at work behind a computer, I came up with about 99%, maybe even more. My honest answer to myself made me wonder how different or the same my thought patterns/habits might be to others. Thank you in advance for your thoughts on this.

That's funny as soon as I started reading your question 99% popped into my mind, haha. I was just talking to someone today about how sometimes I will be taking a shower, and then I will intentionally try to bring my mind and body into the same place. So I will look around and say to myself wow my mind and my body are both having a shower together. And I find it blissful

Yes, friend. I think this difficulty you speak of is a widespread phenomenon, if not a universal problem for most of humankind. We developed these patterns of thinking over countless generations of ancestors who needed this trait of planning and anticipating events in order to survive. Practice makes it easier to find your 'in the now' stride so keep at it. This is a reminder to myself as well, that it's okay to suck at meditation. In the land of well-being and inner peace, 50 percent is still way better than nothing. I really got a lot out of the Dialectical Behavior (DBT) approach. Good luck!
