Just because we can, Cindy and I woke up on a random Thursday morning, packed up our Jeeps and on a whim, headed out to run a crazy fun trail like Fordyce. Fortunately for us, we do have 2 Jeep JK Wranglers that are EVO built and pretty much the same. Moby is our big white JK that is big and powerful with a 6.2L LS V8 under the hood, 1-ton axles and running 40" tires and Rubicat is our Dozer Yellow JK running 37" tires making her a lot lighter and more nimble. In this video, you will get to see all the fun we had as we put both our Jeeps to the test, taking on all the winch hills and fording our way through the deep water crossings. Fordyce is truly one of the most challenging trails up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and maybe more so than the famous Rubicon. This trail is one of our favorites for sure.

Omg!!! 😲 Truly phenomenal video! I really can’t believe that you created a video this amazing while running the trail each driving and still captured the most incredible shots. You two are so beyond talented! No fluff here, so so good!!! Looks like an incredible trail and maybe the most challenging I’ve seen. Hope to do this one with you two someday. Beautiful. Can’t believe the great shots... the sky, the dust, the near flop! OMG! This video has it all!! Killer driving and spotting. Love what you both represent in this industry/sport/passion. Fantastic! I’m gonna go watch it again. Wow! Just wow! Well done guys!

Another fantastic video ... thanks for sharing I do hope the blue smoke from rubicat at the end wasn't terminal I'm guessing she was starved of oil :(
@wayalife
@wayalife 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks and Rubicat's fine. When you lay your Jeep that far over on it's side, oil starts to work itself up into things and burns. This is why if you leave it on its side or upside down too long, you need to clear the oil from the engine before firing it up again.

Awesome video 👍, just out of curiosity what travel coilovers does the EVO throw down use?
@wayalife
@wayalife 7 жыл бұрын
EVO DTD offers a true 14" of vertical travel using 12" coilovers up front and 8" in the rear. I have personally seen other companies use 14" coil overs that only offered a true 9" of vertical travel. Coilover length does NOT necessarily = travel. The design of a suspension system makes all the difference.

Eddie and Cindy, you did another great run and wonderful video, I can't wait to see what you both come up with this year. For now my Jeep dreams are on standby until my eldest daughter gets married and my first grandson comes home, after that who knows I won't need an overlander for much but an RV, so I have been looking for an XJ/JK or possibly a JL that might fit my needs but I think to start I may just go with a well built TJ. Got some time to feel out my wants and needs until then, stay safe rolly-polly, and enjoy those beautiful rigs.

Having recently found you channel, I have binged through all the new JL videos, kinda of avoiding the older JK stuff, you know cuz that's old news. Well that was clearly a mistake. You two are just plain good. Every video I watch is entertaining, educational and and evokes strong sense of character. Please keep up the most amazing work.

Its amazing how capable those two jeeps are. Is the 37's the only thing that made it tougher for Rubicat?
@wayalife
@wayalife 7 жыл бұрын
The 37's were probably the biggest thing. Moby has a V8 under the hood so he could muscle his way over things too. Where Rubicat had an advantage is in her ability to make tight turns. Pretty hard to do with a 1-ton axle.

Well it looked like they both made pretty quick work of that trail. Your guys' experience sure shows. I can't imagine just blowing out a trail like that in a day. I think I have a few years before me and my rig will be ready for Fordyce.

Being semi local to the Reno area. Have you explored much of moonrocks just north of town.?

Oh yeah, fun place but being that we're so close to Prison Hill, we just end up playing out there.

@@wayalife yes good point. I have only played around the prison hill area once. It's on the list for me to check out some more once I get my rig back on the road. Hope to wheel with you guys sometime.

Coming from Canada was planning on running this in late July early August 2023 after the Rubicon, but I have a feeling the water crossings will be to high.

This year, yeah, more than likely. We have a crazy amount of snow this year and I'd be surprised if people are able to run the Rubicon by early July.

@@wayalife Thanks, it will be a late decision depending on the Rubicon, if the water is to high for Fordyce do you have any suggestions for a second trail that’s a few hours away?
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
Typically, on a really big snow year like this, the Rubicon tends to be a LOT more of a challenge. Even on a normal year, having multiple rigs break on the trail is not uncommon. I don't know you or your rig and maybe you're a great driver and your rig built like a tank but I personally would focus on just running the Rubicon and making it out the other side in one piece, even if you're planning on bypassing all the real obstacles. Another thing you should know, the Rubicon is closed the last week of July for the Jeeperz Jamboree. First week of August, Jeep Jamboree USA does their event and it's very crowded.

@@wayalife I appreciate all of the advice, we plan on running it starting on Sunday or Monday July 23 or 24, we will be taking our time to enjoy and soak it in. If time permits we were hoping to do a second trail before heading home. The plan is Fordyce water levels permitting, but if not was looking for recommendations for another trail. Again thanks for the reply. Is it closed the whole week or just the weekend?
@wayalife
@wayalife Жыл бұрын
If it's open, Barrett Lake is close by. Jeeperz Jamboree have the trail from Wednesday thru Sunday but the trail is crawling with work crews setting up from the Saturday before. Essentially, a whole week.
